We just got ds1 a present and nothing more and he was 8 months his first Christmas so could open it at least! My mum always goes mad but it's nice for us to get something for them.

That's a lovely idea Chelle1986! We don't have that problem as my in-laws like to be on their own for Christmas. This year is our year to have dss for Christmas which will make Luke's first Christmas a lovely one.

I would love to do that SkyeplusArlo but I'm too soft and give in to my family! Although a few years ago we went to the cinema Boxing day which was lovely.

Ahh... Both boys in bed by 7.45 tonight, lovely :)

beaditAli · 09/11/2010 20:49

Oh... I'm so jealous of your little ones taking so much in one go... watersprite and chelle I'm really struggling to get more than 2oz a time into Jack. I've tried stop starting to see if he just needs more time but didn't make a difference and today we've gone onto size 2 teats on his bottle but he still took 2oz. Sad
Around weeks 3 to 5 he was taking 3-4oz so just can't fathom it. Hmm He poos pretty consistently every 2 days so don't think he's constipated.
Late 6 week health check tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some advice there... Hmm
Jack's first night away from Mummy and Daddy went well. He only got Gran up once in the night and DH and I enjoyed a lovely night..... obviously talking of nothing but our little man.
I've bought DH and Jack a joint pressie for Christmas. I know DH will adore it but really it will sit on the wall in Jack's nursery. A bit arty but as we are both obsessed with vintage letterpressing it was perfect. Can't wait til he opens it!

cinnamon thanks for the tip on clothes! I really need to invest as he looks like the special child in plimsoles from our school days in his DIYed half masts! Grin

beaditAli · 09/11/2010 20:50

forgot... 7 weeks today Shock

bananastew · 09/11/2010 20:56

BeaditAli have you tried tapping the bottom of the bottle? If I don't tap, Olly will only take an oz. If I tap he'll take 5!
What I've leart from ds1 tho is as long as he's ok & putting on weight, it doesn't matter how much he takes.

Ds1 was the same age as Olly will be for his 1st christmas. We got him the rainforest jumperoo & have got olly the rainforest gym. We'll also get him a little outfit. We don't really buy too much yet because they don't know & they'll get so much from everyone else!

As for where we're spending Christmas, Its my parents this year. Spent the last 2 at his so that was easily sorted!

beaditAli · 09/11/2010 21:32

No banana
What does tapping do? Help the flow I guess? Will give it a go when he actually is awake and not just thrashing the out of his moses basket! Grin Thank You! I'll report back!

How forgetful am I!? He was 7 weeks yesterday not today! O, every day feels like a weekend now I'm not officially working Confused

beaditAli · 09/11/2010 22:11

I LOVE YOU banana
4oz in one go for the first time in 3 weeks! Tapping is genius! Thank you!

MammyG · 09/11/2010 22:30

Hi all, trying to catch up. Sharing the computer with a studying teenager so not managing to sign on much. Keep thinking I will during the day but dont know where the time goes!
banana - glad to hear all went well at the christening. We had a lovely day. Pheobe was an angel. New priest in our parish so the ceremony was more formal than before. Last priest had a lovely informal family affair that was nicer. Also celebrated DS2 birthday on the same day (his proper birthday was monday) thought we would make the most of his cousins etc being around.
My sister left on her round the world trip! boo hoo. And my mother is a pain in the ass! Just getting it out of my system! Weekends like this when Im trying so hard to have nice family time and organise a load she is just painful! Totally pass remarkable and such a miser!! If she had her way it would have been hours at the church then you would be lucky to get a biscuit. Kept going on about how OTT the whole thing is (soup and sandwiches in ours after - dinner cooked by us in the eve) Ugh! Im one of the few people that looks forward to occasions spent with DHs family. Dreading xmas - first without dad and we have loads of issues as my sister is an alcoholic and mom railroads us all when it comes to her.
Bugger am ranting sorry!
Sorting out photos tonight so will try to put up some of Pheobe tomorrow.
Skye Arlo sounds like one comfortable little man. All the lovely tactile gear.
Phoebe is all coos and gurgles now. She is 10lbs already. our little routine is still holding bless her. She is the easiest baby - am so lucky. For now we have a nice balance between bfing and formula. 2 Formula bottles a day and rest bf. Gives me time to get out and do things and feed a settle boys in the eve. Stil dont know where time is going - all flying by in a juggling blur. She has lost her newbornness already.

Dixiebell · 10/11/2010 05:53

Hi all. Arlo weighed again yesterday - 11lb 4oz now, at just over 5 weeks. Same as Lucy, Debs! He is losing quite a lot of hair from top of his head, sad! But can't wait to see what grows in it's place.

I am tempted to not got anything for christmas as so young presents are for the parents really, and bound to get loads from family. But wondered about getting something for posterity that he can see in future as his first Christmas present - like a really good quality wooden toy, or a book. My dad has a tradition of giving Winnie the pooh books - he was given one by his parents, gave me one, and has already given Arlo one. I think something like that's quite a nice symbolic present rather than another toy or outfit.

Dixiebell · 10/11/2010 09:31

OMG beadit the pictures on that site are amazing! We have been looking for pictures for Arlo's room without much luck, there are so many fab ones on that site. I love all the personalised ones, we might well end up with the alphabot too, it is v.cool!

cinnamongreyhound · 10/11/2010 13:19

Glad you managed to enjoy yourself despite your mum MammyG. I'm sure Christmas will be nice as it's your first with your little girl! My mum used to be very sad at Christmas thinking of those who are not with us anymore but since she's had her grandson she's much more cheerful and having two will make it even better. Know what you mean about loosing the newbornness too, it goes too quickly :(

I am just relaxing before my next minded child arrives. I dropped ds1 at preschool at 12.30, it still feels so weird without him here even though he is often napping at this time. I will have to wrok so hard not to be a clingy mother! He still loves my company and would rather be with me than anyone else, fingers crossed it won't change too soon.

Chelle1986 · 10/11/2010 16:10

Hi guys. 6 week check today and all fine.

Quick question though - is anyone else going for the contraceptive implant? Or has one / has had one in the past that can advise how they found it?

Cheers.xxx

cinnamongreyhound · 10/11/2010 16:48

I'm considering a copper coil Chelle1986 as I don't want a hormonal contraceptive but after 6 years am a bit fed up of condoms! My best friend is just having her implant removed after a year of more bleeding than not. She was given 3 months of the pill which can apparently kick start it into giving you normalish periods but it hasn't worked and she started bleeding again straight after so she's having it removed. I think it's similar to what I have been told with the coil- it works great for some women and is a disaster for others but you won't know until you try, which is not ideal.

watersprite · 10/11/2010 17:00

chelle I had the contraceptive implant a few years back, I had it in for over a year and then asked for it to be taken out as i just kept having periods with only a couple of days break and this went on for over a year. Did ask the GP after 6 mths for it to be taken out but was told it could take up to 12mths to settle down, which it didn't. Everyone is different though so hopeing someone will come a long that has had a more positive outcome :)

beaditAli I tap the bottle when Maria-Ann is going to sleep with the bottle in her mouth and it really works :)

7wks +1day

watersprite · 10/11/2010 17:09

Forgot to mention also had the marine coil which is supose to be really good with endometrosis and this is the reason I had it fitted, but it got losted and I had to have it surgically removed.

mellymooks · 10/11/2010 17:52

hello everyone hope you're all doing well.

I'm still up and down here, some days I feel more positive than others then one tiny thing will happen and I'm in floods of tears, like yesterday I managed to get out to playgroup with them both but then I couldn't get the carseat out of the car and it reduced me to tears. Thankfully many of my friends were there and the staff are great too and helped me pull myself back together.

We're full of cold now which is making BF hard for Flynn ad knackering for me as I just feel pants but am tanking the vit c and starting to pick up!

As for contraception it will be condoms for us and then when the time seems right DP is getting The Snip! (His suggestion too!)

Flynn weighs 13lbs 6oz now!!

Must go now lots of hugs to you all

7wks today

beaditAli · 10/11/2010 19:37

Dixie we already have this one from Isak
www.bodieandfou.com/abc_poster_by_isak?category_id=193 I really love it and I agree, it's so hard to find nice childrens' posters. Glad to have been of help to you and little Arlo! Grin
6 week check today although Jack is 7 weeks and 2 days. Yet again we were forgotten about just like in hospital and just added to all the mishaps since birth like the wrong DOB! Shock Someone crossed his little name off the list.Sad Anyway, he weighs 12lbs 14 despite his grazing!
DH is off work for a week so I've got so much done around the house. Now I can't wait to put up our newly made decorations. I know it's early but I'm so looking forward to Christmas as a Mummy! Smile
Melly I felt really teary a couple of weeks ago and one thing after another just made it worse. It will definitely pass and you'll feel great again. DH is just admiring Flynn's name. I tell him some info like names and weights but not the rest! Like to keep you all to myself! Hee hee. He has football nights! Wink

7 weeks +2

saoirse86 · 10/11/2010 20:49

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here in ages so just catching up.

I have the problem with Orlaith grazing too, although I've worked out she's having 27-28oz per day which is what she's supposed to have so it's ok. I tried the tapping thing this afternoon after reading this thread and it worked well. She normally have 1oz at a time and she took 3 so another thank you to beaditali!

I'm glad you mentioned contraception chelle1986. Before I fell pregnant I'd had 2 and a half years of bleeding every day and was talked into trying all sorts, none of which made it better. At my 6 week postnatal check the doctor tried to talk me into either the implant or coil. She made it sound like they were sure to stop me having more problems so hearing people saying they made them bleed, I'm glad I didn't agree to either of them. Condoms it is!
Although my mum has the marina coil and she says it's always been fantastic. She has very light periods with no pain at all.

My 6 week check was just for me, Orlaith hasn't got a check at all until she's 10+3. I'm not concerned about her health or anything but is this normal? Has anyone else got a later check for their LO?

saoirse86 · 10/11/2010 20:56

Sorry, forgot 6+5, 11lb

Chelle1986 · 10/11/2010 21:12

Saoirse I had my 6 week check today thinking it would be for both of us but it wasn't - just for me - she didn't take a second look at Olly. I have an appt for him when he will be 10 weeks + 3 though for both his check up and his first jabs. So I think maybe this is pretty routine.

Hmmm interesting about all the different thoughts on contraception. Thought about just condoms - but DP absolutley hates them and I must admit I am not keen on them either - but not keen on having another baby for about 2 years either so...! Think I will give the implant a go, as fertility supposedly comes straight back after it comes out - and as a sufferer of polycystic ovaries I will prob need as much help as I can get when we try again. Just don't like the thought of a coil..... [hmmm]

Am going to start my Xmas shopping tomorrow! Usually finished by now...!! What a hinderance you are Olly....haha....xxx

saoirse86 · 10/11/2010 21:26

I'm glad someone else has a later check, I was starting to think we'd been missed off some list or something.

DP and I hate condoms too but now we know I'm definitely fertile, despite being tols otherwise, we're going to have to use something. I might wait a couple of months and then maybe have the coil or implant. We'd like another child in the next couple of years so is the implant better? Does the coil make you take longer to get pregnant once it's out?

Debs75 · 10/11/2010 21:29

Chelle I had the implant(implanon) put back in when Lucy was 7 weeks old. Have had no bleeding since and feel fine. I had it a few years back and my periods all but stopped, I had spotting for about 10 days every few months but apart from that I was ok. It does work differently in different people so they suggest leaving it for 9 months to see how your body copes. For me it is just a great way to know I can't get pregnant without worrying about things to take,

Dixie Arlo is a big boy, Lucy is double his age.

12+4

comixminx · 10/11/2010 22:26

Another one who found the implant to be fine - in my case I had normal periods while it was in. Fertility is supposed to return almost immediately that it's removed, saiorse, though I dunno how that compares to the coil.

I had a six-week check and Aphra had an eight-week check separately.

My mum's visiting at the mo so we got to have a baby-free meal out this evening, though there have been other stresses to counter-balance the positives! Ah well.

10 weeks tomorrow!

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 10/11/2010 22:51

Luke had his check at 6 weeks with me at 6 weeks Saoirse86 and has jabs tomorrow :(

With the copper coil fertility returns as soon as it's removed as its just a physical barrier and copper reaction. Not sure about the hormone one (mirena most common) but perhaps it does if it does with the implant.

ValiummyMummy · 10/11/2010 22:59

Sorry to crash, and congratulations on your new babies. I'd be grateful if you have any comments to make. Thanks Grin

Dixiebell · 11/11/2010 05:43

debs I know, it amazes me to compare the sizes of babies at different ages. At our baby group there were two 8 weekers one much bigger and one much smaller than Arlo at 4 weeks. He is 75th centile, so yes, a big boy.

Arlo has slept for 6 hours the last 2 nights - 11-5! Then did 6.30-9 yesterday too, which I was well happy with. Lazy day today I think, the rain sounds horrendous. Ocado delivery last night so we don't have to leave the house anyway! :)
