waking

comixminx · 07/11/2010 21:24

Gosh, isn't it colder all of a sudden! It feels much more autumny-beginning of winter-y so I guess that's good, but by heck!

Dixie, I agree it definitely makes a difference at the weekends having DH/DP around! We've managed to get various things done between us, including a tasty meal for visiting friends.

Banana - hope things even out soon. Melly, glad things are looking up!

It's quite weird to put faces to names!

Can't help watersprite as never ff a baby, hoepfully someone else can!

Hope Olly is feeling better bananastew and glad you had a lovely Christening.

I had a huge flip out Saturday morning and took Luke to my mums house to get some sleep! He was up at 1 and 5 but then dh had forgotten to turn off our alarm so it woke me at 6.15 and Luke was awake again at 6.30, not to eat just because he was awake so I settled him back to sleep and went back to bed, he was up a few minute later- I said to dh you can always go if he's not hungry so he rubbed my back!!! I got up took Luke downstairs with me (dh doesn't like to have him in our bed) and fell asleep on the sofa, a few minutes later dh came down to make coffee and woke me up. At which point I couldn't believe if he was up making coffee he could have had the baby and let me sleep. I then got dressed and took him to my mums and asked her to look after him for an hour while I had a bit of sleep (she lives 5 mins away) and he didn't say a word. Had a huge row when we got home where he told me he couldn't read my mind and I just have to ask and he will go to Luke Hmm. All sorted now and we had a lovely weekend after that! I made some brownies with ds1 and went to fireworks :). I am just so tired from getting up twice a night and then being up early and looking after my own dc plus 7 different other children, walking to school and back twice a day pushing a double buggy with Luke in a sling, plus the paperwork that goes with it and I was really looking forward dh taking over for a bit and getting a lay-in!

Anyway rant over! Luke took a bottle of ebm from my mum last night, he drank 3oz and was happy for 2 1/2hrs, yay Grin. It's horribly wet, windy and cold here today :(

Luke 8weeks

watersprite I use Aptimil first with Jack. I was under the impression that was good for the best part of 12 months....? May be wrong. I also have so many friends who have used the hungry baby formula just to end up with terribly constipated little ones. Maybe you'll find a thread within Mumsnet with more info..?
Is she taking 7oz in one go? That is loads! She is obviously a hungry little girl! Smile

DH and I have a day and night without Jack as his Gran is having him for the night. Hmm
Making the most of it and will try to get into Jamie Oliver's new restaurant in Leeds tonight. I'm not that much of a fan to queue in the street tho so fingers crossed.
Still chopping the feet out of Jack's cloths to accommodate his beanstalk legs! Grin

beaditAli · 08/11/2010 13:21

cloths?? what a mean mummy I am..... I mean clothes!

Dixiebell · 08/11/2010 13:23

I feel your pain cinnamon! My DH often says 'do you want me to go to him', and I think, just do it, don't make me feel I have to say 'no, I'll do it' - why do I have to tell you when to go to him! DH says he thinks I have a plan of action in mind, and he doesn't want to mess that up...Hmm.

Haven't ventured out into the weather yet, although this morning our lights kept flicking on and off with the wind/rain. It's stopped now though, and I'm thinking about walking to the baby group this afternoon...although sure I will regret it when it's raining on the way home!

We received delivery of a Fisher Price rainforest playmat/gym this morning, and it is so cool, I think I'd like to play in it! Arlo loved it, and that's without the batteries installed for the lights and music. Gonna buy some on the way back from babies...

5 weeks today

sassy34264 · 08/11/2010 13:28

Cinnamon I'm feeling yah! I am growing resentful of DP, and if he's not careful he might find a knife in his back one friday night! Ha. He gets back on friday afternoons and goes sunday nights, so i'm on my own in between. When we go to bed on fridays and i've just done sun, mon, tues, wed, and thurs and i'm still stood there pacing the bedroom with one baby while the other rumbles in their cot and the only person asleep is him, then my blood just boils. :o I am telling him this week, that he needs to pick a night (fri or sat) and once they are feed, they are his that night, (until they need feeding again) and we can alternate the days (one week he does fridays, one week saturdays) Otherwise i will not be responsible for my actions. It's a good bloody job he pays for everything, cos he's making himself dispensible otherwise. :)

cinnamongreyhound · 08/11/2010 14:03

Try these beaditAli, they are great when you want all-in-ones but have a baby with big feet. Pumpkin Patch do a lot of them as do jojo mamaman bebe and Next did in the short sleeve/leg ones not sure about this time of year with long ones.

Thanks for the empathy Dixiebell and sassy34264 it's good to know it's not just me loosing the plot over sleepless nights! Kids are asleep now so I am having a cuddle with my little man and typing one handed Grin

Chelle1986 · 08/11/2010 14:49

Hi all, glad to hear everyone is doing well and also nice to put some faces to names on Facebook.

Oliver is doing well. Watersprite - he is also taking 7oz every feed and has been for the last 3 weeks. (Now 6 weeks). I am going to start adding some baby rice to his bottle in two weeks or so, sometimes he will leave a couple of oz if he is particularly sleepy, though he normally drains the bottle....hungry boy!

He also slept for 6 hours straight last night for the first time from 11:30 to 05:30 which was lovely - although he was STARVING when he woke! haha...

Really having trouble with him sleeping in the day however - yesterday for example he slept for only an hour and a half between 09:30am and 11pm! Hence the long sleep in the night I think! Any advice??? Although I do prefer him to sleep at night like that that in the day if am honest!!!

6 week check on Weds! Hope all is well - what happens then exactly?

Feel sorry for all with the sleep/DP/DH troubles - I really can't complain as DP is great. I got a lie in till 11:30am on Sat as he took Olly away and just left me to sleep! I did panic when I woke up and my child was gone though!! haha.xxx

Oliver Dan - 6wks 1 day.

bananastew · 08/11/2010 16:44

Chelle I wouldn't advise putting baby rice in his bottle. Not at his age. firstly its not recommended for babies under 17 weeks as its classed as solids, secondly as a lot of people on here will tell you, its like wall paper paste! horrible stuff. The best thing to do is to move him on to stage 2 formula as watersprite was asking. Thats the hungry baby formula & although has no higher chalorific value to stage 1, it is harder to digest so keeps them fuller for longer. Can your HV not advise what to do?

Dixie we've bought Olly that for christmas!

Cinnamon I had to have words with my DH too. I don't get how they can be so stupid sometimes. He moans that I'm snappy and "volatile" Well get up with the baby then!!!

Just stood in the kitchen, dinners ruined I'm thinking! The pie is still frozen in the middle but burnt on the top! takeaway it is then!!!!! Grin

Dixiebell · 08/11/2010 17:35

banana, Olly will love it! I'venow added batteries and the lights are lovely. Ours was a present from granny.

Chelle1986 · 08/11/2010 17:38

Oh right - thats a bit odd - has the advice changed on that then? Just that I had in it my bottle from then as did my cousins and friends children...spose that was a while ago though! Ah how the advice keeps changing! lol....I can't keep up!

I'll check it out with HV and see what she suggests - although she is as much good as chocolate fireguard. Wanted to streer clear of stage 2 formula because of the constipation tbh....

Thanks banana

C.xx

cinnamongreyhound · 08/11/2010 17:58

I second bananastew it's not recommended Chelle1986. My mum weaned me on weetabix from 4 months and now even if you do wean at 4 months (recommendation is 6 months) you shouldn't give any wheat products until 6 months, so yes things have changed. How often are you feeding him? I bf ds1 and am bfing this time too but if a baby is hungry I don't see how you can't feed it. Is there any reason why you couldn't give more milk rather than giving baby rice? 8 weeks seems very young to not be satisfied by milk. I know HV are often not happy about huge weight gain, which may be putting you off feeding more? With ds1 he was on the 98th centile all the time and when I went to get him weighed was regularly asked 'My God what are you feeding him!' by HV, when I said breast milk they said ok that's fine you can't over feed with breast milk but had I been in the same situation with formula I can't imagine not feeding him when he was hungry and not being too worried about weight gain as long as he was happy.

Chelle1986 · 08/11/2010 18:11

cinnamon - weirdly it was actually the HV that mentioned the baby rice in to his bottle - which is why I was going to do it....(as well as the fact that I had it)like I said - much use as a chocolate fireguard! I should have known better. Yep you're right - she keeps saying 'what are you feeding him'. He was only 7lb12 at birth you see and is now about 11 pound. I don't see anything wrong with that myself - as he is really long - no like he's a fatty!

Feel daft now.... Sad

Chelle1986 · 08/11/2010 18:11

*not like

cinnamongreyhound · 08/11/2010 18:23

My ds1 was 8lb 12 at birth and 13lb 5 at 6 weeks so don't worry! He's now a very healthy 3 1/2 year old and last time he was weighed, dropped 3 centile lines as he's a very active toddler now Grin

bananastew · 08/11/2010 19:32

Chelle please don't feel daft. If a HV is giving out that advise then you're bound to accept it. There are also a lot of other things that were done when we were small that aren't advised now, travelling in a car without a car seat for example! If you're unsure about anything at all, there'll be a million threads on here about it. I've taught myself how to be a mum through the experiences and advise I've read on here!

Like Cinnamon said could you feed him more often? Ds1 went onto stage 2 and didn't suffer from constipation!

bananastew · 08/11/2010 19:33

That should be advice? not advise!!

watersprite · 08/11/2010 20:07

beaditAli yes Maria-Ann is taking 7oz in one sitting and after an hour she is crying again for more food, i know that it's hunger signs and nothing else. I've tried a dummy but this only works for a short while.

I was a bit apprehensive about putting her on aptamil for hungrier babies as she suffered really bad with constipation, however I did try it last night and she slept from 10pm till 4.30am which I was really pleased with. Think I will try to introduce it slowly and hope the constipation does not come back :) also I have lactolose that the GP perscribed so if she does appear to be constipated I could give her that.

Thanks ladies for the advice :)

bellabelly · 09/11/2010 14:39

Happy rainy Tuesday all. It's been peeing it down here since yesterday morning and I'm chering myself up by thinking about Christmas! What's everyone getting their babies for the first xmas? I am tempted to just leave it until next year because I'm a scrooge because with the boys we bought loads of stuff that they ignored for months but if anyone has any cool ideas, I'd love to hear them...

Debs75 · 09/11/2010 15:17

Weighed Lucy today and she is 11lb 4oz. She feeds really well during the day and is almost double the weight she dropped to after birth.
She has a scabby scalp so I have been slathering it with doublebase gel and have managed to pick most of it off without pulling her hair out. Wish I had done that with dc3 as she has mini bald patches.

Can't give much advise about formula. I only ff dc2 and that was 11 yeaers ago. He stayed on Farleys 1st stage until 1 year.

12+3

Debs75 · 09/11/2010 15:19

Bellabelly we are getting her a eoft teddy some cloth and board books and some musical toys. I agree it is hard when they are so little

Debs75 · 09/11/2010 15:19

soft not eoft

Chelle1986 · 09/11/2010 19:11

Bellabelly - DP and I decided that because Olly won't remember this Xmas that we would both just take £20 each and spend it on him without the other person knowing whats been bought - then open the presents on Olly's behalf on Xmas morning.

I think I am going to go for some soft books like you Debs75 - and also some soft building blocks maybe.

We've already told family thats its going to be a budget Xmas, as SMP does not stretch far! DP earns a good wage but I don't get my redundancy payout until the end of December so...

How are you all dealing with who to spend babys first Xmas with? In-laws or your parents? Luckily my mum is fab and has invited DP's mum and dad to hers for Xmas day. Which has no doubt saved tons of arguements between DP and me!

Olly - 6wks 2 days.

SkyeplusArlo · 09/11/2010 19:38

we are spending xmas with ourselves,as we generally do,to avoid choosing, also then we can do it our way!Grin

i might have gone a bit mental in those last few weeks of pregnancy Confused
