Welcome back Jam! What a horrid thing for that lady to say. People here are so intolerant of small people and old people here, both are treated like second class citizens. One of the worst aspects of British culture. Before I had kids I had a lack of understanding about kids travelling but I still would never have dreamed of saying a word. Now, of course, my heart goes out to people travelling with a tired/slightly fractious babe. Was the weather nice?

Can't manage a quick round up - can't get through the night without needing strong pain relief still. I just had to press the buzzer, which I struggle with, as I feel rude doing it. The urge to limp to the nurse's station and ask politely for pain relief is overwhelming but probably even more of a nuisance for them.

I am thinking about you, KP, if you are reading, and hope you are recuperating in all ways.

Where did Beans vanish to? And some of you kind souls who nipped on to wish me well, are you ok? WG, Indith?

There are others but you are all virtual fairy godmothers, to me as well as DD2!

A random funny thing: DP has a colleague who is rather GRAND in his manner. He drives a Bentley, which has gone in for service and his courtesy car is a 1.1 Nissan Micra Grin this is only funny because he is really bothered. How seriously some people take themselves. Night all.

EffiePerine · 02/10/2010 07:46

Lady: did you get some more drugs? I'm sorry you're still so uncomfortable.

Jj: congrats on the girl! I love Jane, I think it's a much underused name and I like the Scottish idea of 'shortening' it to Jenny. DS2 would have been Harriet Lucy Agnes. I also love Mary (and again not very common now). We toyed with the idea of Beatrice as well.

DeidreBarlow · 02/10/2010 07:54

Lady How are you this am, talk of you going home? That is funny about DP's colleague they should have given him a Smart Car, or as my Dad calls them 'half-a-car' Grin

kiwi Yes where are you and how are you? I hope you are as well as can be expected. Please just give us a little wave.

jam welcome home! What a cheeky woman. My sister once caught the train from Portsmouth to Preston when her 3 boys were all quite small (on her own). Some woman spent much of the journey tutting everytime they made a noise and then made a cutting remark and her not being able to control them. My sister pointed out that if she had an issue dealing with the public she should refrain from using public transport. To which the man behing her leant over and whispered 'well said' Grin

rubes I suggested Eden as a name if DS had been a girl, DH vetoed it - boo!!

DH is off today and has decided we should go shopping WITH the DC's and then all go for lunchShock. I am breaking into a sweat at the thought of it. DD will be okay for a while, but DS will just scream until he is out of his pushchair or we'll have to feed him digestive biscuits constantly to occupy him. My mum took him to next with her the on Wednesday and she she was leaving DS grabbed a top off the rail. Mum didn't notice and the buzzer went off as she was leaving, she was a touch embarrassed.

A real quickie. I wondered if Veg is Reading & cld put her nurse's hat on. Or if anyone else has experience. DD1 woke in the night screaming bcause her fanny hurt. She often gets slightly sore down there but this was different as she was writhing in pain. It looks a little pink but that all. I lay with her all night and even when asleep she was clearly uncomfortable. And it kept waking her. This morning she has had a luke warm bath but is still in pain, although she seems a bit better. As its a Sat our only option is out of ours doc which takes hours and is crap or paediatric A&E which seems extreme. Or I cld try the chemist? What wld you guys do?

LadyThompson · 02/10/2010 08:23

Effie, I had some more Tramadol and I was fine. Morning DB...well, I was hopefully going home this afternoon, though my consultant said it may not be a bad idea to stay in another night (not at these prices!) - but for the last few hours I have had hideous diarrhoea (TMI, I know) and I strongly suspect I will be kept under observation. There is a D&V bug going round - there's a notice up in the hospital saying not to enter if you've got it. I don't know, I have had a small mountain of codeine and other bunging up stuff this week, and by rights should by constipated up to the eyebrows. But where the world zigs, my body zags. Unbe-hucking-believable.

LadyThompson · 02/10/2010 08:27

Avo - sounds like a bladder infection. How is her wee? The pharmacist deffo ought to be able to help but I am going to text you Veggie's number. I hope that isn't a cheek, Veggie, but you are so kind...

sybilfaulty · 02/10/2010 08:30

Avo I'd say OOH Dr or A and E alas. The pharmacist is unlikely to sell cystopurin or similar to a 4 year old so you'd have to go to Dr anyway. If her fanny is sore rather than itchy then I'd go for a urine infection. Get her to drink masses to pass the infection and get on to Dr. Poor little bird. Hope soon better.

Just off on the ballet trail this am so no time to stop. Huge congratulations to JJ on ano wee DD2 - did you know my DD2 is a Matilda, a very fine name - yowsers to LadyT on the runs, poor you, hope you can still go home and love to everyone XXXX

DeidreBarlow · 02/10/2010 09:21

Avo does she have a temp? If so could well be a urine infection - go to OOH GP. As she is a child I doubt pharmacist will do anything other than suggest you see the Dr.

Beans33 · 02/10/2010 12:52

Hello - am here briefly. Down staying with parents for weekend and doing dummy cold turkey for DD2.

Lady - sounds like you're having a rotten trot, you poor thing. I'm not big on the martyr chat for birth either. Probably because I'm lucky enough to have had 2 v easy deliveries with my nippers and my fanny isn't wrecked by it - or so DH assures me. Lucky me having a bucket fanny! Haha! No stitches or nuffink. And overall outcome for people is a lovely baby, so let's just ignore how much it hurt and enjoy the nippers!

V excting JJ on 2 girls. Like me and so many others! I'm loving it. And when we're old, incontinent and decrepit, they'll have to look after us - haha!

So, dummy weaning going ok. Daytime sleeps far worse than nights. She tends to scream for between 10-30mins, in a total fury, then finally nods off. But at night, she's so tired, it only takes about 10 mins of crying, then sleep for an hour, then another 20 mins of crying then sleep for good. Plus I did a dream feed last night, rather than waking her up. She only took 3oz, but slept through til 7 with no crying. Big improvement on Thurs night when she screamed for 10 mins twice in night with no dummy. But I was v strong and didn't go in or give her her dummy! I think she's getting used to it now. Phew.

Plus, have discovered that my tits really aren't giving her enough milk, so am now cutting it back to just 2 feeds a day - the morning one and a bit at some stage later just to relieve them. But she's guzzling the formula, so think she was starving. Feel sad as BFd DD1 to 7 months. But it's just not enough in there for DD2. Damn.

Avo - I think I'd go to A&E as well. Poor little bird. Hope you're all ok.

Went for a 3 mile run this morning and loved it. How weird of me! Beautiful weather for it though.

Anyone else excited about Anne Widdicombe in Strictly tonight? I watched it last night and was surprised to find how much I warmed to Paul Daniels... Hmmm. Have spent years detesting him and it turns out he's rather sweet and funny.

Will be back on Monday. Big big love you all. And LADY - hang on in there and hope you're feeling better soon. Squits so debilitating and miserable. Get some of that nice wet loo roll. Helps on sore wiping!

xxxx

sybilfaulty · 02/10/2010 13:11

Just popping on to see how DD1 is, Avo - hope you have got her sorted with some medicine now. And LadyT, how are the trots? Poor you, hope it passes soon.

Beans I was too hungover to get up in time for a run today pre ballet etc but am off out later. Can't wait!

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2010 13:22

Avo sorry have only just popped on if no temp go for OOH GP but tell them its effecting her sleep, very important. if she has a temp, take her to A&E. if that is an annoying prospect (as it is) run the symptoms past the OOH GP first. lots of water, no citrus juices, and take it easy.

Pubes you make me giggle, I think if someone told me I was too posh to push I'd say thank you very much

LadyThompson · 02/10/2010 13:29

Hello young Beans, have a lovely time with your folks. I missed Strictly last night but will watch tonight. I love it. Apparently DD1 saw 5 mins of it and was entranced, so very excited by that.

Avo, I hope your DD1 is better, any news?

Beans (and anyone
else) - I hope no one's been offended by the cs chat. I couldn't have coped with a natural birth, the thought sends me into a frenzy. But in this modern age even a vb, bf phobic useless article like me can have kids and I really do love them so much, they are my jewels. I don't care how people choose to have their kids as long as they are happy with it. Anyway, I am probably just being a bit oversensitive but hey - I can go home! It takes 24 hrs for them to 'grow' the stool sample but it is all tailing off a bit so consultant says if I feel up to the journey I can be discharged. Hooray. DD has been on virtual hunger strike since her vomiting bug, so I need to sort her out and give her lots of cuddles.

Hangover, Sybs? Good effort! Hope you were doing something nice! Wonder how Spot got on? Even the thought of a thimbleful of cheerfulness is anathema to me at the moment - I must be ill! And I have gone cold turkey on the caffeine as I can't face it yet - had about one sip of coffee since Tues!

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2010 13:30

Sorry had to post my phone had a seizure again.

Lady sorry about the pain I wonder if this bug has had anything to do with it. You need to get yourself some vit E & zinc as you need some help with healing with your body being a bit under par, and keep those fluids up.

Beans I always feel a bit of a fake with the birth thing cos I had no tearing, very little discomfort and apart from being a bit tiring, I quite enjoyed the boys births, In a kind of 'wow I just did that' kind if way. Bits are same as pre boys, according to DH and no real recovery time needed, (though I milked it a bit with DH anyway).

Lady when your up to it would love to hear your birth story.

Oh gotta go.

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2010 13:35

Cross posted lady, I think you would have to work pretty hard to offend anyone on this thread. Glad to hear your heading home, how is the pain, how long will DP be home with you?

LadyThompson · 02/10/2010 14:06

Thanks Veg, he is off for another two weeks and he was so good at looking after me last time so hope for more of the same. He is collecting me about 4 I think. Pain is definitely manageable. Think you are totally right about the vits though - unsurprisingly, I feel quite run down. Will keep on the water as am hugely thirsty! I think you has the Holy Grail of births, though, Veggie, exactly the sort that most people want. Anyway, despite wanting to go home I am also sad to leave here for the last time, and all the staff have been magnificent. I am beyond grateful!

DeidreBarlow · 02/10/2010 15:08

lady hooray for going home. How wonderful to have DP taking good care off you for the next 2 weeks tooSmile. Remember feet up and look beautiful with the girls Wink. No offence here on the CS talk. DD was an EMCS , when i had wanted a lovely water birth. However, I realised when preggers with DS that it was never gonna happen and do you know what who care how they get into the world as long as they are healthy little things!

beans I went for a run this morning too. Just over 3 miles, and I actually managed to run it all and still managed to walk around the shops for a couple of hours!

Well we never managed lunch, as DS started throwing one in his pushchair. He has so far refused to nap so will be a horror in about an hour or so. DD was angelic though for a change!

avo how is DD1?

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 02/10/2010 17:57

Oh lady don't get me started I got quite teary with DS2 overtime I was doing a last thing, like saying good bye to my amazing midwife, giving the birthpool away, moving up to the next size in nappies!!! It still feels strange that the childbearing part of my life is suddenly over. Oh & lady while I think major surgery could be causing some of your current lethargy and general run down feeling, I also wonder whether your 'lifestyle' for want of a better word, in the weeks (months) leading up to the birth may have had something to do with it?

We did a big shop this afternoon. Mum is a bit under the weather with a cold, do DS1 stayed home & we took.DS2 & my step father. It's a massive supermarket which are rare here, so we were indoors for a while. When we came back out to the car it was raining. DS2 announced raining to everyone within earshot and when we agreed he was quite pleased with himself. I imagine it must be like when I ask for anything in.a shop in dutch & they understand me.

Sadly though I think both boys are coming down with a lurgy as they are both not quite themselves today. DS1 had to come home early from football & missed swimming.

DH had a night out booked but mum's not well & the boys are iffy (& its raining out) so have cancelled for now. Linda mcCartney pies from the expatriates shop for tea instead.

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2010 18:46

That should be DH & I, not just DH. Does anyone else have blue font?

Also I wonder where Kate is? I hope her gestational diabetes is ok, well as ok as it can be.

Avocadoes · 02/10/2010 20:32

Thanks for all your advice about DD1 girls. And thanks for texting me Veggie's number LadyT. I took her to the paediatric A&E in the end because its actually easier and quicker than our crappy OOH doctor service. Also my paediatrician friend always says to take every ailment to the paediatrcians as she reckons GPs no nowt about young kids. Anyway, they diagnosed an infection and we have antibiotics so lets hope it gets better soon.

I agree with whats been said about the pointlessness of competitive birth horror stories. The thing is that although DD1's birth sounds horrific (induction, long labour, failed epidural, forceps, tearing, massive bleed, blood transfusions...) I STILL found it a magical experience. I remember laying on the bed as they worked to stop me bleeding and I was just staring at DD1 thinking "I can't believe I have such a beautiful baby, this is the best day of my life"!!! So, like LadyT, I found magic and pleasure in a circumstance which sounds horrific. I still look back on that day and remember the amazing feeling. It was only when I was pregnant with DD2, and planning another birth, that I realized I was a little traumatized.

Anyway, I am thrilled to hear that you are off home LadyT. I can't wait to hear how O reacts to meeting D.

We had a lovely evening watching Strictly all together. DD2 danced along to most of the Latin dances. DD1 got very upset by Michelle William's low score. She thought she should win because she was wearing the same skirt as one of DD1's dolls. I have to agree with her that it seemed unfair. How Michelle could merit a 5 and Ann Widdicombe could merit a 5 is beyond me. And she was way better than Tina O'Brian who was covered in praise for a terrible dance.

spotofcheerfulness · 02/10/2010 21:34

Welcome home, Lady! I hope you get some more zzzzs and have ben given plenty of drugs to take home and consume at your leisure.

Night out was ok, was a 40th birthday of someone I know more as an acquaintance than a friend and they have pots of money and so did all the other guests. I just felt we had very little in common with anyone else and all we talked about was cliched middle class things and it just left me feeling a bit sad. Made me realise how I want to be around people I have things in common with and can have a proper laugh with. I do have a couple of friends here who fit that bill so just need to get them to throw a few parties. I don't know enough people here to throw one of my own!

When you go away with your DCs these days, what do they sleep in? I ask because T has grown too big of his travel cot and I assumed we'd just find a bigger one but all the ones I've looked at stop at 15kg (Or 'until they can stand up'). Which of course T can.

Glad DD1 has the antibios Avo, sounds like you did the right thing. Poor little mite though, hope they start acting v soon.

Veg sorry you've had to cancel your night out - damn this seasonal lurg. I wish I could get excited about your Linda McC pies, but they sound reet minging Grin. Have a nice curry and G&B instead.

Welcome back, Jam, sorry you had a ropey co-passenger but glad you had a good time!

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2010 22:21

Avo did you text me? I didn't get a text. Hey where did you fly into when you flee to Italy recently.

We are watching Nigella at the moment, DH is pretending he's not taken by her but she just broke the breast bone on a whole chicken & he took a Sharp intake of breath. I'm going to have a crack at her peanut butter cheesecake tomorrow. We were watching professional masterchef on catch-up so just continued on with the cooking theme.

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2010 22:29

Spot I love my currys & my stir frys but I love my stodgy food too. Pies, steamed veg, corn on the cob & a big ol' serving of mash.

Sorry the party left you a bit a drift. Clearly we all need to sort out this commune. I'd love to live near you.

SummerLightning · 02/10/2010 22:58

Hello,
v quick post from me as about to go to sleep...

ladyt Hurrah for being home. Hope you are feeling ok and little Dahlia is doing well. I have a photo to send you, we went to a NT place today and it had a Dahlia garden, so I took a photie of me and DD for you. She was screaming, I look shocking, but the flowers were nice. Actually i took one just of the flowers, you might like that more!

veggie I am watching nigella too. mmm...cheesecake. God it looks lovely. Why is she wearing a black dressing gown though?? Inner thigh wibble? Steady on!

spot I meant to say from ages ago, my DS wakes occasionally and demands milk too. We give it to him - it is easier!! These days he does it about once a month - most recently cos he had fallen at nursery and bitten his tongue so had eaten no tea.
Oh and on names I have similar taste to you. Other names we had - I liked Peter, DH not though
Sebastian
Miles
Toby
and then loads of others that have been mentioned.

DD would also have been Samuel if a boy! So I think you should hold out for getting a Samuel for the thread.

HURRAH for jj's girl. Oooh names for you too. I like quite traditional names...what about Rachel - goes with DD's name and quite underused these days. Though very popular in our day I guess, but then so was Sarah. I like Ruth too but lots of people seem not to. Oh and I like whoever suggested Helena as well. But I would do given v similar to dd's name.

Oh yeah, on the injections, I had to have them too. I hated them and found they hurt quite a lot, not being done but shortly afterwards (not agony or anything but like a bee sting). I got very grumpy about it and called the hospital to say was I having a reaction to it seeing as they said it wouldn't hurt and it really did! (I think I knew it was normal really) and they said that if I was mobile I could stop taking them. I think they wanted to get rid of me - I was very happy to stop so was a result!
They said to me that they were only standard procedure if you had been in active labour - and I never had them with DS, since not considered in active labour.

Oh am with you on competetive birthers. Though not really met any in real life. Either of the "my birth is so wonderful and yours wasn't cos you did it wrong type" or the "mine was so bad, you had it so easy". The only people who have made negative comments to me have been blokes - along the "oh you had a c-s, are you too posh to push" comments. To which I just wearily say "yes that's right" and ignore them. As we all know that there would be another method of birthing invented that didn't involve being cut open or exiting the baby through a hole that let's face it isn't quite big enough if the men were doing the birthing. Such as fitting a zip to their fronts or something. And if that wasn't possible they would moan moan moan about it.
Oh and with competetive birthers, competetive sleep deprivation. That pisses me off too. Especially when you see threads on here saying "oh my baby wakes up every two hours at 6 months old, what can I do to help them sleep longer" and people say "That's nothing, mine woke every half hour until they were four years old. You have it so easy. They are still so small, how dare you think about wanting to get some sleep?"

Talking of sleep, DD slept excellently last night. 8 til 2:20, then 3:30ish til 6:50 then even a little doze after that! Pretty good. Hoping for a repeat tonight. But had better go to sleep now as was probably a one off and don't want to be too tired tomorrow.

Oh off on holiday/visiting relatives trip next week from Monday, including the second wedding.....so if I don't get on that's why i am AWOL. Oh and wedding 1 was great, we stayed out til 11:30 Shock and DS slept in his pushchair! and the dress and shoes went down well, shoes were comfy too!

Right. BED!

JamInMyWellies · 02/10/2010 23:09

Avo hope the AB's do the job and DD is feeling better.

Ladyt hurrah for being home.

Well the boys slept from 8pm until 10am today. Then today they have both been vommiting and are now in my bed watching Cars. Nice end to our holiday!

LadyThompson · 03/10/2010 08:58

Morning! Couple of pics are up in FB, finally! Anyone who isn't on FB and wants to have a look, I will email.

Day 1 in the G&T household and things are a little mixed. DD1 isn't happy. First thing is - SHE CAN WALK! Properly! She gave up the pretence whilst at the babysitters, and just started strolling round the kitchen, so she WALKED into my my hospital room to collect me. Unfortunately it was evidently a shock to her a) to see me and b) to see me in bed so she was rather upset Sad Anyway, whilst she was very happy at the babysitters she hasn't been happy since DP collected her, endless tantrums and tears, I suppose because everything is strange. We were stuck in endless traffic coming home and when we got back, I was pretty wiped out and trying to deal with Dahlia who needed changing and was hungry, and DP was trying to put the Moses basket frame back together and, despite having just done all sorts on the house, was getting flustered with it, and DD1 was screaming and roaring because I couldn't pick her up. Having lived in a silent, serene cocoon for a few days, it was all a little much...

DD1 hasn't got anything against the new baby personally. She is saying "Hello Dahlia!" in a soft voice, and keeps pointing and saying "Baby there, look!" and "Baby asleep" and stuff. But she is very upset that I can't pick her up all the time and wants my constant attention (that's what she resents, the lack of it). DP is getting very cross with her and I have tried to explain that she is confused and we just need to shower her with love whilst it passes but he thinks it's pandering to her. Anyway...it is very early days so I am not worried. I think he is going to have to do the DD2 stuff for now whilst I give O a lot of attention.

Summer, I would adore the pic of you, DD and the dahlias! That would be lovely. Thank you very much. I love the dark red ones especially, they are so fabulous. Really pleased about the dress and shoes - and DS sleeping in his buggy, hurrah. You are so right about those competitive sleep threads, ho ho.

Avo, great that DD1 has got ABs, they will sort her out in a trice. And I am really pleased your first birth was still magical - I know just what you mean. I guess some people assume that if there is any medical intervention, there can't be any magic, which is of course total guff.

Spot, if he actually fits in it, don't worry about the standing up, I reckon. We have got a Lighter Life one which I think is good until they are about three. Obviously, it is a bugger to get up and makes you want to kill the inventors of it, slowly, but it's still handy...Sorry you felt out of stride with the folks at the party. That's lonely. But hey, why not ask the couple of people you like round for a little dinner?

Sorry you didn't get your lunch, DB. What a shame. Have something extra nice at home to make up for it. I could just eat a big plate of noodles. Hmm!

I hope your Mum and your boys are feeling better, Veggie. The weather here too is shocking. Cuddles on the sofa all round, today! And dvds. Can't wait! I feel guilty lounging around, normally. Not today I don't!
