Rubena · 01/10/2010 15:04

Grin I like Harry too!

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 15:53

Obv Harry is a great name Wink.

Rubes I think I am in your wavelength too they are great names...Spot have you already found out if its a boyConfused??

JumpJockey · 01/10/2010 16:08

Spot they're all lovely names, I love Nathaniel as it can shorten to either Nate or Nat - plus we know a little boy called Nathaniel who is the absolute cutest little cherub, dd and several others are being lined up to marry him in 20 years time! All good solid names - in the best of ways.

Well it's time to start thinking of names to go with my dd, and we can announce after the scan that.... it's a girl! (sorry Sybs) As the scanning nurse put it "Look here, there's the girl's thing, that's definitely not a pointy boy thing" Confused Grin So, ideas...? have to go back fro another scan in 4 weeks as the abdominal circumference is on the 99th % line - another chubby tummed baby... this pregnancy is being deliberately complicated to make up for the easy go last time! but apart from that the nurse was saying "oh beautiful spine" and "what a loevly heart" so pleased that she got some aesthetic pleaure out of it Wink ]

oooh am all excited at telling dd she's going to have a little sister Grin Plus it means I get to use all her adorable little baby clothes again! Hurrah!

LadyThompson · 01/10/2010 16:23

Of those I like William, Benjamin and Nathaniel the best. But I love all the ones your DP has vetoed and Alistair is sad that Alistair is off the list! Resisting the urge to start spouting the ponceroony names I love, what about...Christian, Robin, Marcus, Henry, (love the name Henry), Sean...

Rubes, DP is not good with gifts either, normally, which is what makes it all the more amazing and special. I also had a huge stack of fashion mags and some Jo Malone goodies.

Enjoyed thinking of you all on your sofas, watching the rain. Well, I am also watching the rain and drinking peppermint tea. DP has gone back to the country now as he has to collect DD1. He is not coming again until tomorrow, that's if I get out tomorrow. DD2 cries more, eats more and wants more cuddles than DD1 at the same age.

I started writing this post literally hours ago so have probably crossposted with loads.

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 16:40

jj That's wonderful news!!Grin Although I feel the girls are taking over the universe at the moment - this thread needs some boy babies Wink

lady How's the pain? Sending lots of healing vibes and hoping you get home soon to enjoy all being together.

OP posts:
spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2010 17:19

Hooray JJ! How lovely. Do you think DD will understand the sister thing? I've ordered the same book as you about the homebirth, hope that delivers (pardon the pun). Deids, yup it's another one with a willy.

Thanks for the name feedback, I like Nate as a NN for Nathaniel (which on its own reminds me of the NatWest piggy banks), esp after the line from the Prince song, sign of the times...
And the character in 6 ft under. Lady I like your suggestions too, sadly most also vetoed Sad.

I don't mind that everyone else is having girls - means more options for my DSs Wink. I promise I will be a model MIL to them.

Lady I hope you don't get too lonely on your own. We are all virtually with you and am bringing you a virtual cuppa (builders) and massive slice of choc fudge cake.

This cocking rain, I'm going out tonight. To a place with a marquee. Eek!

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 17:22

Apologies spot I think I missed that announcement Confused. Seriously I have a memory like a sieve latelyHmm

Have a lovely evening (even if it might be a bit damp).

I have just bought a couple of tickets for the Euromillions, oh what I could do with £82 million

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 01/10/2010 17:32

JJ, that is lovely Grin and chubby tummed sounds so cute I know you are having an anxious time but hope the scan provided a little reassurance? As to names, sticking to names which I think match your DD's very classic name, what about: Louisa, Julia, Belinda, Amelia, Helena or, and this might be too much, another S, but Serena?

Harry is a fantastic name - 'twas the name of DH but I think it's such a cool name anyway. I know the actor you mean, though, Spot Grin

Thanks DB, was feeling good this morn but when the epi came out I realised that since it was jiggled it's been doing a lot of work so it was a bit of a shock. So now dosed up on Tramadol, Voltarol, Codeine AND Paracetamol. I rattle when I walk but it's bearable again. It's good DP has gone home as he kept making me laugh and it really hurt Grin

LadyThompson · 01/10/2010 17:42

£82 million - wowzers. Well DB, if you win, I think we should all have a spa break!

And yes, Spot, you lot have been such a comfort to me this week (again).

I would love to furnish you with pics of Helgy the Hot Dane. DP took a few pics of the staff in theatre, including my very beautiful consultant. Odd, wasn't it, than when he took a picture of Helgy he shot him from behind. And then cut his head off, just to be sure Grin

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 17:53

Spa break?? Hell if I won I'd buy the whole damn spa and only the elite (ie you lot) could enterWink

OP posts:
Rubena · 01/10/2010 17:54

Lady, you're in better spirits at least - great to hear!

JJ congrats! Wow a lot of new baby girls that's for sure. Right let me think of my shortlist....

If A wasn't A, she might have been:

Georgia -(love it but dh not so much)
Isabella
Ella - (dh really loves it but I wanted more formal option)
Ava
Claudia - dh not so much
Grace - She got it for 2nd name
Amelia
Lara
Nina
Sara (pronounced Sahrah)
Isla
Sophie/a

Right I'll think of some more.
Must bath and dinner these littluns...

LadyThompson · 01/10/2010 18:11

I like loads of those, Rubes, Claudia and Georgia in particular, though your DD's name suits her and I particularly like that you use it in full. Anna is also a very nice name too and would go with JJ's DD1's name.

Avocadoes · 01/10/2010 18:27

Back from Belfast. Yay! But stuck on doorstep in the rain because DH took the girls out and I didn't pack a key. Boo!

I'm so glad that yr feeling better LadyT. Fab news. And fab that your bonding with Dahlia so quickly. I can't wait to see piccies.

And wonderful news about DD2 JJ. Two girls rock! As do all other combos no doubt, but I have proof abt the two girls thing. On names I say Anna (DD1's name) or Emma. Both go well with S. My fav girls name of all time is Matilda. I also like Beatrice and Iris.

For Spot I say Joseph or Nathanial. Both great names. I personally wld go for Bede. But then I'm weird. I also love old testament boys names like Isaac, Elias, Reuben, Solomon, Malachi... Henry is a fav too.

Mmmm dreaming of a curry tonight while standing here in the rain. Might let DD1 stay up late and eat it with us. She gets v excited by takeaways. I've missed her, and DD2 soooo much. Just wish they'd get home so I can squeeze them (& get out of the rain).

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 18:34

avo hope you get out of the rain soon.

Girls names I love Matilda...and Hattie(although Harriet/Henriettadon't really do it for me). I wanted DS to be Elliot for a while, although DH said it reminded him of ET...Avo I like biblical names too, also like Elijah.

OP posts:
Rubena · 01/10/2010 19:18

Aw thanks Lady - yes dd's name was always in the top 2 towards the end, and one we both liked so it was an obvious choice. I think it suits her too. I always prefer using her name in full but dh often shortens it to the 4 letter version (which I don't mind either) I think it does suit her too.
I really really liked Georgia too but dh couldn't get past the US thing Hmm
I really like your new dd's name too. And even though pronounced differently, the D I went to school with was very classy and extremely pretty / glamorous Smile which is very fitting! I can't wait to see photo's C'mon, a sneaky FB from the phone one? Or I do understand if you can't get a nice one on the phone and would rather wait [drums fingers impatiently]

Avo, are you still out there????? Go for the curry - yum. Chicken Saag is my curry of choice but must be from Bombay Bicycle Company. Our local one has just close down - gutted.

Kiwi - how are you? - please let us know if you are lurking [waves]

Right I decided I wanted lamb shanks but waited way too long to put them on so fear we will be eating at midnight Hmm

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2010 19:40

Hello just thought I'd pop in on the names thing with some names I've heard over here for girls (Congrats on the pink flavour JJ). Marieke (mar-rye-ka or mar-ray-ka), Babische (Bar-bish), Lisselotte (Leesa-lot), Mara, Anke, Meita & for boys, Milo (mee-low), Jacob, Johan (pronounced like Ewan) & Kees. Our new hopefully helpful real estate agents name is Herman. I also quite like the Welsh name Angharad (sp) for a girl.

Gosh lady that pain is just mental, at least I had gas&air to make me a bit loopy, I think you sister must surely see this isn't the easier ride. Although I'd almost opt for a CS to have a sexy man tell me my job is to look beautiful. At least your getting your moneys worth in pain relief. Hey if you been through so much in pain could they give a night on the house so you can stay an extra night.

JumpJockey · 01/10/2010 20:30

Herman Grin Makes me think of Father Ted, where Mrs Doyle is trying to work out Todd Unctuous's name. "Father Herman McSchmerman!" Some of those dutch names are very pretty, not sure how DH would go though...

Deirdre I love Matilda, not least because one of the most important people in my PhD was an abbess called Matilda, but DH utterly vetoed it :(

Avo hope you're in from the rain by now!!! I really love both of your dd's names, Anna might pass the DH test (simple, probably biblical/saintly, not too many syllables) Though for some reason I thought of Aurelia this morning in the shower before knowing it was a girl, which would probably fail the test!

Oooh Rubes Ava is rather lovely. In fact in dd's room at nursery there are twins called Anna and Ava. Two for the price of one!

Lady am Grin at dp's censoring of Helgy the delightful doc. Though at the same time very sad :( as we all need to see him!

Right, sounds like DH home at last so catch you all later, big kisses

LadyThompson · 01/10/2010 20:56

I was just talking to my sister actually, Veg, and she says she'd be dead if she'd taken what I had Grin I don't care as long as function.

Well, JJ, Helena was a Catholic martyr...or what about Mary? I think it's a lovely name.

Yes, the pics - my Blackberry is refusing to take photos Angry and the ones on DP's camera I can't do anything with until we have the relevant cable, which is at home!

Hence the mysterious lack of photo evidence (my sister was just complaining!)

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2010 21:21

Not that you need to join the "oh but my child's birth was the worst" brigade Lady, but I think you have had it pretty hard, so I just don't want her feeling you got the easy ride because its a CS. A little bug bare of mine, I've listened to too many birth martyrs.

JJ i think I've decided on Helena for your DD2, I think it goes beautifully with DD1's name. Distinct from hers but it rhymes. So there you go, job done.

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2010 21:24

Hello Kiwi if your lurking, miss you.

Pubes have you had your lamb thanks yet? It was takeaway night tonight here, yum.

Rubena · 01/10/2010 21:39

Hello Vag - yes had the lamb shanks - they were a tad over seasoned but otherwise yum, and the dog has devoured the bones (entire thing) in about 2 seconds flat as per usual!

Yeah I do like Ava, and Anna, and there is something about Mary Wink that I like, but it still hasn't completely done it for me yet. I like Eve, Eva, Jane and Jemima too.
mil wanted Martha, Anna or Isabelle for dd. Oooh and one I forgot before - I really like Eden, and Charlotte too and Emily.

Rubena · 01/10/2010 21:40

Oooh call her Eden - job done now Veggie!

LadyThompson · 01/10/2010 22:21

Liking Jane and Jemima. One of 'em is my middle name.

Actuall
y Veg, I DO think my sister had it worse than me. Far worse. Breech, forceps, lots of stitches. Ok, I've got stitches, in layers, but they are in a more manageable area. Also, being in birth for hours - I've never done it but I suspect much harder! I know what you mean about competetive suffering with childbirth, though, I really do. This has been (another!) painful experience but positive and joyful and special, honestly. And I promise I am not being all martyr-y. I still think it was the right way to go for me. I'm so sad when people don't have happy births for whatever reason. Anyway, I am prattling!

Rubena · 01/10/2010 22:37

Bet I know which one's your middle name Lady Grin

I don't get this competitive "I had a more difficult child birth" stuff either. If anyone asks me, I tell them, "yeah it was a bloody lovely experience, and yes it was a breeze, and I wouldn't do it any other way" and if they say I took the easy way or I'm too posh to push, to that I say "yes I did thanks for asking" and because of that I loved my experience bringing my children into the world Smile
My best friend criticized my birth choice the first time around, but I just told her the above, and that I'm quite happy my bits are still in tact too - (perhaps a little harsh, but she never mentioned it again, and we are still the best of friends Grin)

Right, have hogged the board and been a little too matter of fact so must choof off.

Kiwi are you out there? xx

JamInMyWellies · 01/10/2010 22:41

Hi everyone, we are back. Miserable weather.

Can someone do a quick synopsis of the last 2wks. I fear I will never catch up otherwise.

Had a fab time really relaxing and we managed to avoid too much Disney, god it is everywhere shudder. Flight home hideous horrible woman sat next to DH asked why we had brought it !!! (DS2) on holiday as he was quite miserable on the flight well he screamed a bit for about 20 mins. Bloody good job I was not sitting next to her as I am sure I would have gone mental at her.

Anyway lovely to be home. Nice to be back to MN and ignoring Dh of an evening. Wink
