quick one to Spot - if your DH's birthday is a Sunday or a Monday, you can stay at Hotel du Vin for £45 on the Sunday night if you spend £75 on dinner - always struck me as a bit of a bargain and looks like a very nice hotel

offer details

otherwise there's a bit of a dearth of nice places - just big chain ones that are horribly expensive. This place has just opened up and is meant to be very nice, also you get use of the spa included ie sitting in a jacuzzi for hours Grin probably worth a look on laterooms to see if they can do a good price, not sure how much they are otherwise
new hotel

ladyt good luck with the recovery, just think you might make it into a medical paper somewhere Wink what a gorgeous pressie from DP [sobs again]

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2010 09:44

Thanks, JJ Grin. Sadly it'll be a Sat night, but will check out the other options. The varsity one looks dead swanky...

LadyThompson · 01/10/2010 09:48

Oh, and I meant to say to Avo that no, DD2 goes off to the night nursery whilst I mend. Just as well as I don't think I could have managed. Speaking of which, a big yay for Spot's T for the last three nights! And a big Shock for Veggie's amazingly efficient friskiness!!

Helgy the hottie Dane is very entertaining - not only because he makes DP mutter under his breath but because he clearly fancies himself very much and I find people like this enjoyable and amusing!
Hospital policy is now that cs patients have to have anti-clot injections for a week after surgery even if low risk. So I will have to do it myself at home. Boooo. Anyone else have this?

Rubena · 01/10/2010 10:25

Lady I had to have that for 10 days after at Queen Charlottes when I had ds as that was their policy - not fun in your gut and I had to have about 3 Gin and Tonics then dh chased me around for half an hour before I'd get nailed with it. Then (fortunately) my brother's girlfriend accidently threw them out as they were next to the bin and it looked like an empty box Shock but Grin so I only had about 5 or 6 days of them. not great as they are suppose to go back to hospital in sharps bin provided however they do have safety catches on them for non medical personel to use Hmm With dd I was so relieved as they don't think it's necessary if you have no other complications and are otherwise fit and healthy.
You are not a circus act! I'm glad you're getting rest though now.

DB do you want to talk bum tablets with lady or with the hot dane? Grin

Spot - I'll work out what's happening on Thurs (if going to S London or not and also if my shoulder appt is that day or the following and if I'm doing neither, could you still come over or would you rather wait until we can see Beans and Sybs at the same time? Might be a better idea actually since you would be coming so far.

Oooh I love Hotel Du Vin (The one in Henley is nice)

Rubena · 01/10/2010 10:28

That meant to say Royal Berks doesn't have the policy unless high risk

Rubena · 01/10/2010 10:30

oooh and Queen Charlottes also made me wear those stockings for 10 days after too, but Royal Berks took them off after surgery Hmm

Rubena · 01/10/2010 10:32

bugger - had to ditch toddler group this morning as its awful weather and dh took the car plus no double rain cover for my P&T (must order) however that said, I dont think my hood would actually fit over ds's head when his toddler seat is on the front as he's too tall - anyone else find that? At least when she can sit up the toddler seat can go behind!

Rubena · 01/10/2010 11:33

OK have ordered rain cover now.... Where is everyone? I get on here and everyone bolts! Not surprised...... I do waffle on Hmm

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 11:41

Rubes I want to chat bums with the DaneWink

ladyt I had the injections for 5 days with DS but don't actually remember having any with DDHmm

Have just spent the past hour adding things to ebay to sell. DS was not amused kept saying 'noooo' everytime I took a photo of something!

OP posts:
DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 11:43

Actually I did take a random snap of him, perhaps he thought I was about to sell him, although I'm not sure what the reserve a non-talking 22mth old with sleep/biting/bad nappy issues isGrin

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2010 11:48

Hi Pubes I'm here. Just taking a moment to unfluster myself after hearing of the saucy Dane. His comment sounds like something from a medical romance. I'd like to test out my efficiency on him during an episode of "show me, show me"!

Spot our boys are in cahoots, DS2 slept through to 5.30,had his morning milk then slept to 7am! The night before was the very worst of the worst so he mist have reached his limit then gave up, well that's what I'm hoping.

Gotta go just picked up DS1 from school, DS2 is asleep & I need lunch & coffee.

Rubena · 01/10/2010 12:26

Phew Vag.... and DB.... Grin @ show me show me.

Oh and Spot you can totally get the bum tabs - It sounds pretty standard since Lightening and Lady both had them (and possibly DB twice) I had them with both but tbh if they didn't tell me I'd not have known as your bum is still numb when they shove em up there Grin nice.

they asked me both times, and as if I'd say no!

Not fair - Lady's pain guy sounds v v nice. Mine was lovely, but a woman, and also a total double of Angel from last years Big Brother which was slightly off putting (even had the exact accent! Hmm)

Oh and Lady that is so so so lovely - that gift from DP. How thoughtful and sweet. DP needs to have a word with DH - he's not great at those kind of things - but means well and shows it other ways I suppose Confused

Vag, I'm doing this citizenship crap again for dd now, and getting so confused by all the supporting documents I need to send. Didn't you just do this? Can you just tell me what I need to send in? Grin I can't remember with ds's!

Rubena · 01/10/2010 12:31

oh don't worry Vag I found the check list

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 12:44

What a crappy rainy day. DS is snoring away on the couch next to me, and I really should be doing the ironing but am watching 'The Biggest Loser' (my guilty pleasure - lots of fat people losing TONS of weight) and trying not to eat too many biscuits!

OP posts:
Rubena · 01/10/2010 13:11

Nice DB. It's crappy weather here too.... ds asleep and dd asleep but not for long. I'm hungry now.

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 13:14

I'm starving but some bloke who weighs about 20 odd stone has just run a marathon in just over 5 hours - hats off! I wish I had their determination. I LOVE crappy american sentimentally.

DS still snoring, he's bloody cute when he's asleepGrin

MomOrMum · 01/10/2010 13:28

Hiding indoors with tea and chocolate biscuits here too!

Rubes, apparently you can buy new Phil and Teds hoods that are height adjustable if your DS is really squished. But probably not worth it if you can wait until your DD is big enough to sit.

Lady sounds like things are looking up a bit. I had major CS pain - trauma at the memory of it! - but mine was actually not an emergency (10 days overdue and breech) so very odd. The only thing I can think is that they had alot of trouble getting DS out even by CS (over 4 kg, breech so had to come out butt first folded in half) and were really tugging hard, and I had a chest infection so was coughing and busting the stitches. I really hope you are feeling better very soon and loving the descriptions of your cuddly, scrumptious DD!

Kiwi hope you are doing okay.

Hi everyone else who is hiding from the rain!

Rubena · 01/10/2010 13:32

Aah thanks MoM - think I'll wait though as she can go on the back as soon as she can sit up. DS can go hoodless in the meantime Grin
Yes that'll make recovery harder if they didn't just quickly pick her out Grin mine have both been in the proper position too.

Yes Kiwi how are you today?

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2010 13:48

Hello again, have got totally distracted from work and am thinking baby names again. If you're bored and stuck indoors cos of bad weather, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following (bearing in mind they need to "fit" with Thomas). Or suggestions of similar type alternatives. This is the pared down list DP is happy with but I want to come up with a few more:

Nathaniel
William
Benjamin
Luke
Joseph

(Other ones I liked but have been vetoed include Gabriel, Samuel, Edward and Alistair).

and Rubes I have no social life to speak of so can come pretty much any Tues, Weds or Thurs!

MomOrMum · 01/10/2010 13:52

Spot, are you me?? Nathaniel, Gabriel and Alistair were all top of my boy list! I used my top choice for DS (Sebastian) and was thinking Nathaniel for this time.

Love all of them. Only thought re: Benjamin is that it seems very popular in my area anyway - not that that matters.

DeidreBarlow · 01/10/2010 13:59

spot I love Nathaniel! Oooh and mom Gabriel is also lovely. I also like Henry

OP posts:
Rubena · 01/10/2010 14:52

Spot - Samuel would have been dd's name if she wasn't a dd Grin
ds's middle (2nd) name is Thomas (dh's bro) and 3rd name is Andrew (my bro) which I obviously like Grin I really like Benjamin! (obviously!) although yes v v popular here too MoM! And dh's 'real' name is actually William so you've got quite similar tastes as the families here! Bugger about Samuel vetoed Sad
Others I like include:

Alexander
Charlie
Noah
Max
Oliver
Harrison
Daniel
Joshua
Zachary
Isaac

  • quite traditional I guess Hmm
Rubena · 01/10/2010 14:58

Oh and Spot - ok will get back to you on FB when I know the plan for visits!

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2010 14:59

You guys are clearly in my wavelength Wink. Sadly Daniel and Alexander are out as they're already names of cousins and but will add all the others. DB I like Henry but that shortens to Harry, and the middle name is my surname and that, next to DP's surname, is the name of a Hollywood actor (not super well known but enough to put me off).

Sorry if too cryptic but don't want to reveal my or DP's surname here!

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2010 14:59

In my wavelength? On, of course.
