And Rubes and Vag, hope you feel better soon. Poor mites. I hate being ill. Both DDs now better - hurrah!

Veggiemummy · 20/09/2010 18:14

They had to what your cervix!!!! Is that normal, Sybs did they so that to you? Just putting DS2 to bed now, he goes down so much easier with no nap & despite it being just over 12 hours since he woke up he has been ok tonight. Ate well and apart from the occasional biff at DS1 he has been great. It's probably helped that we had a low key day. I really needed to get some bits from the shops though & only started feeling up to found out at 4pm. But all I could think of was Rubs & her meltdown madness the other day so thought better of it. We can use kitchen towel as loo paper for another day.

Sorry you feeling unwell Rubs, I'm having a hot toddy before bed tonight, you should join me.

We got our new phones today but they don't seem hooked up to the network yet. The guy said they were doing it this afternoon so maybe it will take a couple of hours.

DB my DS1 was the victim of his best friends beatings for years. It took him ages to decide that he didn't want to play with his friend. Like Beans I didn't like DS1 getting hit but I didn't think less of the mum, I appreciated her reacting. The problem I did have was the boys dads attitude of 'let them sort it out' & he liked saying that our DS1 needed to toughen up. Apart from being bloody annoying it undermined the boys mums attempts to sort out the behaviour.

Veggiemummy · 20/09/2010 18:16

Oh & DB cystitis as well that crappy, keep an eye on it you don't want it to go up to your kidneys. Get some cranberry juice into you but get to the GP if you even get the slightest temp.

Beans I'm glad your 2 gorgeous girls are better now.

Rubena · 20/09/2010 19:46

Good God Beans, that sounds horrific odd! I've got the pill but haven't gone and got it yet (must v soon) Do you think you'll one day have a 3rd? Shock
Veg, good plan not going out. I have felt like death warmed up all day and haven't left the couch except made the mistake of bathing ds. I was planning to bath dd at the same time so had her laying on a towel on the bathroom floor so I could sort ds out. DH had to run to Tesco for something (including drugs for me) so thought I'd get a start on getting them in bed. Big mistake.
ds didn't want to get in as he was still annoyed dh had left. He kept pulling the plug out. Then all this mould came out of his plastic whale's blow hole Shock which he found exciting to play with [grim] but I wanted him out after seeing that so pulled the plug and he screamed and kept putting it back in - took it away and then whisked him out not noticing him grabbing the Johnson's Top to Toe wash and he threw it as I lifted him out, hitting dd in the head Sad she screamed (not hurt just startled) and he thought he was in big trouble and bolted screaming then refused to put his PJ's on so when I ignored him it turned into a scene not unlike that at Tesco yesterday Shock Again today he only napped 45 mins waking up with sore teeth, so I know it's mostly that as he only ate his dinner after being Bonjella'ed up. He's in bed now fast asleep... as is dd who missed having a bath - oh well. I'm so not up to it.
Sorry no personals I'm whacked. Lady hope you didn't push it and had a productive day. I'm heavily on the meds now and hacking up some awful stuff so it was a good decision to not sneeze all over you today.
Desperately hoping I feel better tomorrow - and you too Veg, and Jolly hope your symptoms ease off soon.

notjustanumber · 20/09/2010 21:40

Evening ! Right, just got time to post this and run:

Pancake recipie :

225g self raising flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs, beaten
290ml/1/2pt milk
30g butter, melted
oil for frying

Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl.
Beat in remaining ingredients
Heat oil in heavy pan (i use frylight, couple of sprays)

When a heat haze rise, drop in ~ 2 tablespoons of batter. it will spread out to ~10cm in diameter.
Wait until holes appear on top and then tunr and cook for a further minute.

So quick and easy ! Sometimes I dont bother with the butter, and it only takes a few minutes for the whole thing. They can be sweet or savoury, you could add fruit, or sweetcorn to the batter, or serve with baked beans, but mostly we eat them with syrup/butter/nutella. They freeze well too.

Look forward to hearing from you SL,
Night everyone...

LadyThompson · 20/09/2010 22:00

Evening ladies. I have had the giggles today, mainly at my own patheticness Grin First of all my latest wildcard ailment is I keep getting what I guess is a trapped nerve in my groin - in that bit just at the top of your legs where the inner leg of your knickers go. It is a sharp pain like cramp so for a couple of seconds it makes me sink to my knees. Secondly, I was lying on the floor for quite a while to paint some awkward spots. There was such a rush of stomach acid into my oesophagus that it nearly made me vomit and it's been burning for hours since and no remedy will tame it.

Anyway, that is as nothing compared with Jolly's woes. JB, that sounds so rotten Shock You are so brave to put up with it - genuinely. I was whinging to my sister about not having my c section until 39+5 and she was very snippy about it - "Most people have to wait until past 40 weeks". And that's true. I am a big weed Grin- unlike you!

And Beans - pin back your cervix? My life, that sounds medieval. Are you ok now? Oh jeepers, I think I am back to being too scared for the coil again. DId it hurt when they did all this?

Oh no Rubes, it sounds like you are quite rough. I hope you have got good meds. It really sounds like you need to rest. DD loves that black rubber duck mould as well (it's probably slowly killing the pair of us) - I did chuckle at that disastrous sounding bathtime but only with immense sympathy. I am hoping you manage to have a decent night's rest...looking after the smalls when you are feeling yucky is no fun.

And Veggie has the ills as well! We all need a rest cure on this thread. Don't worry 'bout Four Lions, I had it ordered anyway. I won't blame you if I don't like it. In fact I might prioritise it.

And talking of needing rest cures - Spot, how is T? Up every hour in the night? Oh no. I hope there's not a repeat of that. That is truly punishing.

And poor old Deirdre as well! DB, first of all, I am a chronic cystitis sufferer - or used to be - weirdly, since I had DD I barely get it. But it is so draining and awful. Of the sachets, I always found Cystopurin the best, which I would make up with chilled water, which seemed extra soothing. But if you need antibiotics, don't delay. As to your DS, of course he is lovely! He is just pushing his luck as they ALL do, in whatever way. Look lovey, if you are telling him it's wrong and apologising where necessary to other mums, I honestly don't believe there is anything else you can do. It doesn't make him a bad boy or you a bad Mum! Anyway, there but for the grace of God go I - O pinches, hits and kicks me still on occasion and I can't seem to stop her, and I have tried a number of approaches - I often wonder what I would do if she was doing it to other kids, because she won't listen. Unfortunately I suspect it's a case of discouraging it every time, even if it falls on deaf ears, and waiting for the next developmental stage. Which is no help I know. But don't let some sniffy mums cause you to lose your confidence. We're all behind you.

So how were the shoes, SL? Is your DH really ready to return to work, do you think? Doesn't seem like he has had long off...

Oh yes, and forgot to say to NJAN, do come back and post that recipe. If DD doesn't like it, I probably will Grin

I have eaten crap again today. I have lost my iron will this last fortnight.

Right, The Inbetweeners is on E4, which I love.

Veggiemummy · 21/09/2010 09:14

Morning ladies I'm posting from my new Android phone. We both got the HTC desire phone in the end. It's not that different to the iPhone as far as I can see but DH & the sales guy were going on about it being an open platform compared to the iPhone. Whatever he seems the same to me, as long as I can mn & fb when I'm out & about who cares. The one thing I do like compared to the itouch is that it kind of minimizes this MN page so I can read without having to scroll back &forth.

Lady regardless of when you deliver being pregnant is not easy you have every right to whine & wish it was happening earlier. I do think it is quite late really for a CS didn't they used to do them at 38 weeks? Obviously the later the better for DD2 but it is quite close. Please please please can you start taking it a little easier.

Right I have to go turn the vibrate off on this thing it vibrated for every letter &I'm starting to lose the feeling in my hand.

Oh I'm feeling a little better sore throat is gone just lots of snot. Unfortunately had the worst night ever in my career as a mother. DD2 cried for mook mook continuously for about 2 hours and intermittently for an the rest of the night. How was your night Spot? I feel I might need to buy our neighbours some chocolates to say sorry for the sleepless nights.

Beans33 · 21/09/2010 09:20

Ouch, everyone sounds a bit miserable!

Re coil, it was, I think, because my cervix is at the front not the back like most people, or something. Anyway, it was all over fairly quickly. Had period-y pains all day yesterday and now feel fine. Bit of bleeding, but nothing major. Have told DH I'm off games for a week, but I just fancy having a bit of no sex for a while!

Am feeling much better today. Am heading up to West End to see my old work colleagues this pm. Should be nice to see them all. I have put on some of that wash off fake tan and I look v yellow! That's nice! Hee hee!

Had a bit of a rubbish night last night. Got up at 3am to put dummy in DD2's mouth as she was squeaking. Then lay awake worrying til 4.30 - more of that shortly! Then DD2 woke up for milk at 5.20, so did that. While I was feeding her, DD1 woke up and started coughing and screaming. DH went and dealt with her, but he woke her up properly, so she wouldn't go back to sleep. He started playing with her, instead of just giving her water and re-settling her. They were chatting and doing animal noises etc. So she's been awake since 5.30 - albeit playing in her cot, which is ok. But noisy and calling for Mummy. I am now really tired!

I was fretting in the night because when I woke up at 3, I started thinking about this 5km run I've signed up to do. DH is putting pressure on me to do it in under 30 mins and I just haven't had a chance to do any training. And I can only really go once a week at weekends and he's been away for loads of weekends and we're off to a wedding this weekend. So no training for me. I am feeling really peeved with him as I can only just manage 3.5k at the moment and that takes me 30 mins just to do that, so no way I can get up to 5k in under 30. I know it's not much of a worry, but it's the sort of thing I work myself up into a stew about sometimes! Silly me!

Has anyone read The Help? I've nearly finished it and it's brilliant!!

Beans33 · 21/09/2010 09:21

Oh Vag - cross posted with you. So sorry you had a rubbish night. We should have communicated by telepathy! x

LadyThompson · 21/09/2010 09:36

Beans - your DH isn't being fair I'm afraid. It is amazing you are even contemplating it. Be proud if you make it, and don't put yourself under pressure to do it in a certain time - you have only just had a baby ffs. I will sponsor you.

Sorry about the bad night, Veg. Sounds bad. A lot of them are going through funny phases at the mo. EVer since MIL came, DD has started waking about 9.30 or so and crying about every other night, which we have never had before. I was worried at first she was anxious, now I suspect she is trying it on. Night before last she asked for a "dink of water" - hmmm, she already had one - and last night she said "Downstairs! Gook! Gook!" - which is book Hmm You have 'mook', round here it's 'lilk' or 'lilky'. Consonants at the beginning of letters still quite confused Grin

LadyThompson · 21/09/2010 09:43

Oh and I think the general trend in the NHS is to move as close to 39 wks as poss for sections instead of 38, but in this case I do think it might be my consultant's schedule.

I am a bit narked with my sister about her lack of sympathy actually. She loves to pretend I am a spoiled prima donna and she is a noble martyr who never complains. Sod that! Anyway, she had her kids when she was, what, 25 and 29. I am 38 and have been doing a bit more than she did at this stage, which largely consisted of driving half a mile to Asda Hmm Anyway, I will stop bitching as she is nice really and coming to help us on Sat.

I am in my pyjamas and the man is on scaffolding painting our window frames just a few feet away. DP's flat has 65 windows - it's very nice, but imagine a first floor greenhouse Hmm and we don't have curtains. They have been here weeks now, I am so fed up of them.

EffiePerine · 21/09/2010 11:22

Beans: you are super mega woman to even consider a 5k run at any this stage, so feel free to tell your DH to wind his neck in. If he keeps badgering you we can all come round and talk at him with expansive gestures and a few pointed looks.

Lady: I agree with Veggie. Time to veg! You need to conserve your strength. And if I was managing a building project -weeks-- days away from a CS (how long now?) I'd be be waving a placard saying 'I am bloody amazing and this is Not Fair'.

LadyThompson · 21/09/2010 11:26

It's a week tomorrow, Effie! And I am vegging today cos I have to stay in for these painters, so am planning to spend the day writing emails, playing with DD and going through the bags of her old baby clothes to sort out all the newborn stuff for my new little flower Smile

EffiePerine · 21/09/2010 12:01

A week! How did that happen? Are you all packed and stuff?

Rubena · 21/09/2010 12:02

Oh gosh - awful night dd has got a cold now too. She was up and wouldn't settle / was all blocked up from about 8pm-1am then finally went to sleep when dh gave her some paracetemol Sad She's exhausted today so has had a bath and been sleeping loads thankfully as I'm still under the weather. It's amazing how awful a cold can make you feel. I've got no energy at all. I want to watch movies today but cancelled our Love Film account ages ago (I don't think they have enough in their library) and our Sky Box office isn't working for some reason. I don't have the energy to go out to Blockbuster either. I've had to wash all our sheets as I knocked a huge glass of squash all over myself and dd in our bed last night I was so tired.
ds stirred last night but it seemed like a nightmare as I went in and he was crying but never really woke up or got out of bed - he was the same the night before but did get out of bed then. Not sure maybe it's teeth. He has been kissing me all day Hmm so I'm worried he's going to catch it now but I don't want to discourage him from being really sweet to me!
Oh Lady I have those vests and babygro's dd has grown out of already for you too which I kept forgetting to bring up. By the way I need you to FB me or text me your address so I can send dd2 her birthday present when she arrives too please.
Beans - you legend doing a 5km run. I'd never manage that at all let alone in 30 mins! I'd have to train for a year!

Veggiemummy · 21/09/2010 12:32

Beans that time is not an unrealistic goal, but to achieve it you would have to train 3 days a week and that would include a sprint training session. From own experience I ran a 10km at 10months post DS1 & I trained 3 days a week, from 7 months post. So was no longer his main source of nutrition. Looking back I'm happy with my time of 59 mins no one gave me a 'congratulations for running a 10km so close to having a baby' medal & i think It took away time from DS1. I've done 4 triathlons since having the boys and I have actually no plans to compete for a while because I just want to enjoy them now, not try to squeeze in long training runs etc. I think it's a good idea to keep fit by all means but pushing & stressing yourself for a race that is such a teeny amount of your life is not worth it. If he is willing to set aside time to let you train fine but it needs to be convenient for you not him.

LadyThompson · 21/09/2010 13:08

Effie, no, not packed. Erm, that's a good point, perhaps I should be, though I have just retrieved a load of DD's baby stuff, the Moses basket and a 48 pack of maternity pads from upstairs in DD's room...Have got newborn nappies and all that jazz. Er...I can't think what I need for me for hospital. Make up, conditioner, contact lenses (and glasses actually) and phone charger are generally my essentials Grin I will keep the rest pretty simple. Apart from clothes for DD2, anything else I shouldn't forget? My brain has turned to guacamole.

Oh dear, Rubes, sorry DD has got it now. And totally agree about colds making you feel dreadful - there are colds and colds, aren't there? By which I mean the ones where you feel headachey and like you've been hit on the head and can't breathe. Ugh. Can you take Sudafed? It dries it up at least. Hey, you think the library at LoveFilm is too small Shock You must have watched a lot of films! Wow! We have loads of dvds here, wish I could beam you a selection. I will FB you my address, that is very kind. Oh, if you are in need of nice soothing things to drink, if I have a cold I drink hot Marmite - one heaped teaspoon to a mug. I suppose you have Vegemite Grin All those B vits can't be bad. As for the vests etc, that would be lovely but I may hopefully see you soon anywway.

I have trimmed DD's hair and she was struggling and now it is wonky and much too short. She looks like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.bannedinhollywood.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/emo-philips-blindfold-refused.jpg&imgrefurl=www.bannedinhollywood.com/twenty-great-sex-quotes/&h=318&w=480&sz=52&tbnid=YzGFQhe_35ovVM:&tbnh=85&tbnw=129&prev=/images%3Fq%3Demo%2Bphillips%2Bpicture&zoom=1&q=emo+phillips+picture&usg=__85Ik8mKcWbuWbe7il_wJtfpOJEg=&sa=X&ei=ep-YTO6MDsnT4wavuOVr&ved=0CCYQ9QEwBQ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this, it's awful. DP will go mad, he doesn't like me trimming her hair but if it was up to him she would look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=mid.mediatoon.com/upload/news/MRA_Dougal.jpg&imgrefurl=mid.mediatoon.com/news.php%3Fsection%3D2%26langue%3Duk&h=305&w=386&sz=47&tbnid=r6KWDVvUlRj2YM:&tbnh=97&tbnw=123&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddougal%2Bmagic%2Broundabout%2Bpicture&zoom=1&q=dougal+magic+roundabout+picture&usg=__tu_8irsDDW19iWpzFKO1Ee_JyBw=&sa=X&ei=y5-YTMWrJ6mM4gaAgeFh&ved=0CCcQ9QEwBQ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

LadyThompson · 21/09/2010 13:10

It's only her fringe I have trimmed.

But it still looks awful. I keep laughing but I am so cross with myself at the same time.

JollyBear · 21/09/2010 13:18

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all your sympathetic words, you are all very sweet.

effie I think I was just in denial hoping I might escape being so sick again. Bonkers!

ladyT Have a nice restful day, albeit with strange men peering at your through the windows! I had my CS at 38.4 and I was very ready by then. You have waited an age.

beans Being 'off games', made me chuckle at lot. I think setting a goal for the run is crazy! I am no expert on fitness but surely running 5k not long after having no.2 is a huge achievement in itself.

trace You asked about dummies ages ago. DD still has one and I'm planning on keeping it until she is old enough to swap it for a toy or something. About 3 I'm thinking. Our dentist said it was fine as long as it was only for sleep and she got rid of it before her adult teeth came in.

rubes Poor you on the bathtime chaos. I threw away some of DD's ducks when black mould came out the other day, it is gross! Are we meant to be cleaning them out? Sorry to hear DD is poorly now too.

DD shouts 'die' to people instead of 'bye'. Not a cheery way to say goodbye.

Veggiemummy · 21/09/2010 13:27

Oh lady it can't be as bad as the first (& last) time that I cut DS1's hair. DH is the hair cutter in this house though these days we take them both to the hairdresser as they have such thick hair they almost need a wash cut & blow dry!

I'm sorry your sister is not being sympathetic. Don't forget there seems to be that martyrdom thing with some women, like 'I suffered the worst for my children, much worse than anybody else'. My mum told me last time she was over that the pain of childbirth was gods punishment to eve so 'we' all had to suffer in labour. She got a bit miffed when I told her I quite enjoyed both the boys births.

I wonder where Spot is?

I went to a little gathering with some of the expat mums this morning. They usually meet on a Tuesday in a little park near here but I don't go because it's the morning I have a swim with DS2. It was quite nice but I don't know if we would usually get to go cos I love our swim time. I didn't go this morning cos ive got DS1 & I'm still snotty.

EffiePerine · 21/09/2010 13:27

Lady: are you in a private room? If so, maybe no need to add flip flops for scummy bathrooms and drinks and snacks. Magazine? Also I packed a pressie for DS1 so it could be a gift from DS2 when he came to visit. Breast pads in case of leakage?

SummerLightning · 21/09/2010 13:49

Hello!
Hi Jolly sorry to hear you are so ill. Did it clear up later on last time? I hope you feel better soon, sounds awful. Glad you are back online though! I am sure people know what DD means when she says "Die" haha!!

Gosh your mum sounds like a misery veggie with that birth comment. I wonder if her God approves of caesareans? Talking of c-sections, my scar area has started aching worse and feels all tender. Crap as I was hoping to start exercising a bit soon, but I don't think it really feels good enough yet. I hope it is nothing sinister, going to the docs for 6 week check on thurs so will ask then.

Talking of births my bro is training to be a doctor and this week is his "have to see 5 births week" as he is in obs and gyane. Apparently it is really hard to get women to agree to male students watching them give birth (not really surprising) so wish him luck! Glad I have done my having kids now as he will probably regale me with gory stories afterwards knowing him.

Ladyt not long to go now, hang in there! Cannot believe you are still doing stuff on the house, you are superwoman.

I am feeling quite shattered at the moment but today is my day that DS is in nursery so I am tidying up and resting a bit. DD is asleep.

rubes sorry to hear about the evil cold. Take care of yourself!!

veggie hope tonight is a better night. Poor little DS2 and poor you. Among my friends there seems to be a lot of silly buggers being played at night by their toddlers, as well as people on here. DS is sleeping well at the mo but I bet he'll have his moments in the coming months (most likely while DH is away)

beans no-one will care or worry about what time you do the 5K in (well maybe apart from your DH, sigh) so I wouldn't stress about it - they will be just impressed you manage it. Which you will no doubt if you can already do 3.5K, just the atmosphere would carry you the rest of the way. And you may surprise yourself with the time too. Oh and I shall sponsor you! I was going to when I saw your thingy on facebook but no-one else had yet and I was too shy!

ladyt so your DP's flat is all windows and no curtains?! How do you get dressed without flashing to the world? And haha to DD's haircut. DH cuts DS's hair here, and he seems to do an ok job. I was terrifid the first time.

Oh oh oh, most important news. The RED SHOES fit and I like them. They are not the comfiest though but I think they will be kept and worn to the wedding.

SummerLightning · 21/09/2010 13:51

Oh and LadyT things we forgot to the birth - cotton wool and our big camera!
Also maybe a nice trashy book.

Oh Beans yes I have read "THe Help" (not that I am saying it was trashy!) i was great, I was gutted when I finished it. It was one of those can't put down books.

LadyThompson · 21/09/2010 14:35

Effie, I will have a private room but the bathroom wasn't all that nice so might pack flip flops. Taking slippers anyway. Last time my book and iPod went unmolested throughout my entire hospital stay but a mag is a good idea. Something with mainly pictures, like OK Grin

Right, I will order The Help. I am still not that far into The Slap, not because it's not good, but because my brain has been too fizzy to read before bed.

SL, the camera is DP's dept! As to cotton wool, yes, I forgot that that's what you use to change their nappies in the early days. As to the flat, well, the bedroom and living room faces the back, and there is a large shared garden which hardly anyone uses except in summer and not even much then, and we are on the first floor. Beyond that, horses in a field, plus chickens and ducks and stuff, then a wood. So no one gawping. Round the side of the building where there are even more windows right along the length of the flat, there are just tall trees. I will miss the privacy/serenity/nice views/light, but we so need more space. Having said that, the new cottage is dark and despite the 4 bedrooms, not massive. And it's on the A44 Grin Hey, good luck to your bro. Sounds terrifying, I must say. As to the scar, my obs said how a second scar takes much much longer to heal than a first one.

Grin at Jolly's DD saying 'die!' My DD says 'gye!' Maybe B's are hard to say.

I know what you mean about swimming, Veggie. I would love a nice swim now. I haven't had one since we were in Brussels. Funny that your Mum said childbirth was God's punishment. Well, I suppose it says that in the Bible...My Mum reckons natural childbirth is not that bad Hmm and she had me at home with no pain relief and I was over 9lb. I love my Mum but I do think her memory is playing SERIOUS tricks on her. Also, unlike me she is dead hard Grin

LadyThompson · 21/09/2010 15:39

Sorry, been hogging the board again today. I am just excited because I am having some time to myself. I might go to the house for an hour or two when the painters have finished, though - not sure. It's two country buses away, though, so I dunno.

Anyway, two things if you aren't all fed up of me.

  1. There are a couple of new MN features, notably a free MN messaging service[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/1045811/AllOnOnePage#21401175 see here]

  2. DP was bidding on an iPear travel system last night which he thinks we should get. However, it says 'used once'. He is worried that the parents may have been bereaved and this puts him off. I am slightly dubious but don't know what to think. Er, I don't think we should ask, though. Hmmm.
