New Fred. Apologies for dullness of title - we need curly for witticisms.

blerugh! That is grim

SilverSky · 30/09/2010 13:04

OH YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AlpinePony · 30/09/2010 13:05

I was introduced to them by a SAS (Surfers Against Sewage) girl who was sick of having tampons bob against her when she was on her board. :(

CurlyCasper · 30/09/2010 13:11

An alternative to mooncups are sea pearls / jam sponges. A bit messy, but also good for treating thrush etc. Not used them for a long while though.

thanks for sharing skipine!

OkieCokie · 30/09/2010 13:24

This is very enlightening today. Not sure I like idea of a sponge up my foo foo tho'

AlpinePony · 30/09/2010 13:24

Jam sponges sounds not dissimilar to fanny's suggestion to use Jaffa Cakes. Anyone for a chocolate finger?

OkieCokie · 30/09/2010 13:24

Chocolate finger! Love it. Surely that is more of a butt plug?

Cosmosis · 30/09/2010 14:04

Ok this is going to sound stoopid, but he's nearly 4 weeks now and starting to be a bit alert and interested in the world sometimes, so I think I should start playing with him, but what on earth do I do??? Hmm Blush

Cosmosis · 30/09/2010 14:18

I have discovered he likes bouncing and for some reason he likes me singing. clearly tone deaf like his mother Wink

OkieCokie · 30/09/2010 14:24

Cos pop him on his baby mat/gym (assuming you have one) and a bit of tummy time (i found a rolled up blanket or one of those bolster cushions helped), and singing to him is always good - don't worry it is the sound of your voice and not your dulcit tones that matter. They soon get well knackered looking at stuff.

Cosmosis · 30/09/2010 14:27

he's been on the gym today and screamed! lol, I'll try it again :)

He is so adorable it's great he's starting to interact a bit (although having said that my bouncing and singing has sent him to sleep!)

FannyPriceless · 30/09/2010 14:47

cossie Sing, dance, make up rhymes, tell him what you're doing, read books in silly voices, make faces, hold your hand up and let him play with it - generally make a complete fool of yourself.Grin

I am v scared by all the talk of mooncups etc. Must get brave one of these days.Confused

Cosmosis · 30/09/2010 14:52

Forgot to say as well that my poor furry stripey first baby is not at all happy :( he is very very stressed, inspite of being fine for the first 2 weeks, and his hiding in funny places, off his food and losing hair :(

we are trying to give him as much love as we can and TGO has googled and found a cat herbal calming remedy, kind of like a cat rescue remedy, recommended on many cat forums so is ordering some of that. Poor Wellie :(

SilverSky · 30/09/2010 15:08

cossie I wondered who you were on about! Do you think moggy has a hairball? Does he need worming?

Cosmosis · 30/09/2010 15:15

No, he's got classic stress caused by change in routine ie Artie's arrival - it's very common in cats, particularly the slightly older ones, and he's had us all to himself (well apart from other furry baby) for over 10 years, so it's not really surprising.

He's currently asleep on the change mat so I'm hoping he's quietly absorbing artie's smell and getting used to it.

Artie is currently asleep (not on me!!) and holding his earlobe, how cute!!

OkieCokie · 30/09/2010 16:24

Cos I have same ishoos with my two fury ones. They have been acting strangely since I become diffed. They sit on my tummy in an overprotective way (which is quite a funny sight now it is so large) but they are generally not happy. They have even been known to pee around the house although there is also a new cat in the neighbourhood which has wandered through our flap a few times so that could contribute to it too. Anyway I went through a period of wanting to get rid of them but the other half says that is a bit drastic - which it is to be fair. We use Feliway plug ins and Feliway spray which helps chill them out a bit and try and give them a lot of love. Mini C has started to think it is funny to kick the cat - I am hoping it is just a phase as that is not helping!

SilverSky · 30/09/2010 17:22

We also have two furries. One is uber shy and scared so don't see him for days and the pensioner is hilarious. Totally Victor Meldrew. Dread to think what will happen when junior arrives!

Hopefully your furry is adjusting - just in his own time.

CurlyCasper · 30/09/2010 21:07

is anyone else being subjected to just-found-my-voice non-stop full volume screeching? Not crying, not unhappy, just REALLY shouty and very annoying? And it goes on, and on, and on...

It's incredibly wearing. Sad

Backinthebox · 30/09/2010 22:07

Cas it gets louder and more articulate and more persistent. I had a conversation with a friend yesterday where for over half and hour DD shouted 'Mummy, Mummy, Mummy!' at the top of her voice. Yours is practicing for the time she can be really loud and annoying! It's cute - video it.

PollyPoo · 30/09/2010 22:26

Casp my sis is complaining of same problem. Niece has discovered her volume control and constantly shrieks at the top of her lungs. She is not unhappy, just v v noisy! My sis is less than impressed. Grin

SilverSky · 30/09/2010 22:54

Have received some really horrible news. Need to share but not sure where and can't get on t'other place at the mo.

CUNextTuesday · 30/09/2010 23:13

Is it BESH related? Or personal?

organiccarrotcake · 30/09/2010 23:18

alpie funny you mention that (about FF babies being grossly obese and all that) as I was just reading about it in some medical stuff this morning before reading your post. I now have visions of little fat babes in swimming shorts Grin.

silvie I absolutely rate a stretchy wrap like a Kari-me or MAM jersey wrap for a little baby. It's incredibly comfortable and I can carry Comma in it all day and get stuff done round the house, too. It's a bit faffy to put on and can get hot on a hot day but otherwise brilliant.

For speed I use a Rockin Baby pouch - a one shoulder sling. Comma's now over 14 Lbs at 3 months and I can carry him for however long with it.I recently got a ring sling from them and used it all day at the Christening. You will see the photos on FB. It's not quite as comfy as the wrap but pops on and off in a second. I've used the pram ONCE in 3 months (other than at home in the garden) and I much prefer the sling.

The key to a one-shoulder sling is getting a perfect fit. If you buy a pouch, get an adjustable one rather than one which is just a circle of fabric.

I don't rate a Baba because you can't cap the shoulder. The shoulder is very padded which seems nice but it's poor ergonomically as the weight/pressure point is diagonally onto your neck and the top of your shoulder. Compare that with, say, a Rockin Baby sling where the fabric caps the shoulder, keeping the weight spread across the whole shoulder and the main weight pulling against the top of your arm which is much better than your neck.

One shoulder slings MUST be fitted properly. I recommend going to a sling meet (www.slingmeet.co.uk). Go to your nearest to see different ones.

The one box suggested is similar to my Mei Tai which I carried LC in until he was 2 1/2 - highly recommended once they're big enough to support themselves - 6 months plus.

One sling doesn't do all. I use the pouch mostly, wrap when I'm carrying him for a longer time and don't need to take him in and out of it and will use the Mei Tai when he's bigger (and still the pouch or sling)

Feel free to email me if this has confused you more!

organiccarrotcake · 30/09/2010 23:19

sil x post. What's happened?

organiccarrotcake · 30/09/2010 23:23

BTW "(about FF babies being grossly obese and all that)" = facetious, I'm sure you will guess!!
