So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

ladyem a top tip for the nappy rash is Daktacort. Dd1 had terrible fungal nappy rash and this eventually sorted it out. I originally had it on prescription but you can get it over the counter and I always have some in.
Zoe had a very stubborn nappy rash last week, and neither sudocrem or metanium ( whihc I will always try first) seemed to be doing anything. A bit of Dakatcort and it cleared up in two days! beware though it contains hydrocortisone so should be used sparingly and you may get questioned by the chemist.

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/10/2010 00:05

Metanium worked for us but it took ages, over a week. When Gabe's nappy rash was awful it was really hard to give him nappy off time as he was scratching it. Thankfully, although it comes back with every new tooth it hasn't been as terrible as the first time.

Gaaah, I forgot going back to ye olde nickname would result in posts in this thread jumping out at me in a fairly horrible shade of brown. Might change it again for a bit

Peachy - DD used to get awful nappy rash too and we used a cream from the GP that had canesten and hydrocortisone in. Is Daktacort the same thing? J's isn't fungal at the moment, but the skin has that burnt look to it. It used to really help DD to be washed with plain water and the really dried off before her nappy was put back on, so I've been doing that, plus a spot of the old vaseline and it seems to be a little better.

Went to my reunion on Saturday and I have to say it was fantastic! Everyone still as lovely as they used to be and we had a really good laugh. I was going to leave at 10.30pm as it was an hours drive, but I finally dragged myself away at 12.30 and got to bed by 2am!!! Then was meeting a friend on Sunday, so by last night I was absolutely shattered!

Hope you all had a good weekend!

kveta · 11/10/2010 11:29

we went house hunting this weekend - we've finally got enough saved for a deposit (we think), so went to view a GORGEOUS house on saturday. it felt very surreal - in the space of just over a year we've gone from living in different countries to both being employed, parents, and married, and now we're looking at a house to buy. Very grown up all of a sudden! We're hoping to be able to put an offer in on it too, but will have to wait and see - we've been looking at right move for bloody months and this is the best house we've seen by miles. 3 beds, nice big garden, parking, bags of storage space, gorgeous bathroom, all recently redone so little effort required on our parts. We won't get it, but it's a step in the right direction! I'm totally buzzing with excitement too!

must not get carried away...

did everyone else have gorgeous weather over the weekend btw? it was absolutely balmy down here! real indian summer!

ChutesTooNarrow · 12/10/2010 18:44

Yes it was beautiful down sarf, but instead of taking advantage of it we sat inside and put together many, many shelving units (courtesy of Ikea!)

Am so Envy Envy about potential house buying. Hopefully this will be us in a year or two. I got really far along the process (i.e. gave a lot of money to a solicitor) at the start of 2008 for a beautiful 2-bed flat but I was made redundant, and then the market crashed about a week later. I went from being devastated to being quite relieved. It was the best thing to ever happen to me as we made the decision to not stress over home ownership but to crack on and start a family instead Grin

Not only is Gabe still vying for World's Worst Sleeper awards he has been an absolute arse to put to bed this last week. Last night I had to pin him down while he wriggled and whinged until he eventually fell asleep. I was completely broken this morning, my insomnia kicks it up a notch when Gabe's sleep is at its worst. I cried when DP left for work Sad Thankfully we have had a chilled day and Gabe has been adorable so am not feeling quite so broken now.

peachygirl · 12/10/2010 20:29

Turns out some of zoe's bad sleeping and constant moaning could have been to do with and ear and a chest infection! Antibiotics dished out!!

ChutesTooNarrow · 12/10/2010 21:51

Oh no Peachygirl, poor Zoe. How is an ear infection identified? I often wonder with Gabe, he tugs on his ears when he is teething but I assume it is down to the teeth pain. I have half an idea he could have an ear infection and that explains why he just doesn't sleep? I will take him to the doctors if he is still ear tugging tomorrow.

I hope Zoe starts to get better and you both get some sleep.

Envy at house hunting, although that is our plan if we can save. This is the reasoning behind moving in with my parents temporarily. DP working over on the Scillies has been put off until the New Year though so plans have gone slightly awry already.

Feeling your pain Chutes, Mads has been screeching within an hour of being put down at bedtime, and then bawling the place down between half three and 6. It's somewhat stressful in this shared house situation. Not helped by the fact that even taking him into bed with me doesn't have much effect, he just tries to lie over my head and pulls my hair. It's very difficult to stay rational, and I'm looking increasingly zombie-like on the school run most mornings.

Hope Zoe starts to get better Peachy, it's awful knowing they are in pain.

Ladyem · 14/10/2010 09:09

Hi all!

Kveta - did you put an offer in on the house? Fingers crossed for you!! It's a rubbish process in this country when you are buying a house. We've done it twice so far and each time I couldn't relax until it was all completed. Hope it all goes smoothly for you!

Chutes - hope you have had a better couple of days. Loving the latest pics of Gabe on FB!

Peachy - hope that Zoe feels better soon!

Barry - Can't believe that you manage to school run every morning with broken nights! I can just about manage to do the nursery run 3 days a week!! I'm not sure why, but everything seems to take me at least 3 times as long these days!! And someone always needs a nappy change just as we are dashing out of the door Grin

We are off on our 'Sun' holiday tomorrow in Devon! Yay!! Hoping that we get a couple of dry days as there are loads of things to do near our site that look really nice and great for the DCs!! And as long as there is a cafe where I can get a cuppa and a cake, then I'm happy!! Loads to pack so will be ironing and furiously making lists of things to take all day!

blue76 · 14/10/2010 17:32

Oh my goodness. I've never felt so insulted. Have a read of this ww1.highlandclassifieds.com/js/mi/c47195/b45757/r779541/2134841.html
My sil actually posted this on Facebook, knowing that I breastfeed. Cheek of it!
Back soon. Would really like all of your opinions on this matter.

Ladyem · 14/10/2010 18:39
Shock

That's got to be a wind-up, surely? didn't read it all as it made me too mad, but who in their right mind would agree with that?!

Angry on your behalf, though that your SIL posted it on FB! Shock

ChutesTooNarrow · 14/10/2010 19:13

Shock Angry That is mind-blowingly offensive.

With things like this, if real, I just have to remind myself that some people have vile opinions but they are perfectly entitled to them. Luckily the vast majority of people won't share these opinions.

I have to say anyone who posted it on fb would no longer be a friend of mine but it's a bit tricky when it's a sil. I would probably say something though, and be quite blunt about how distasteful I found it.

OP posts:
ChutesTooNarrow · 14/10/2010 19:16

Actually it's got to be a wind-up? As I lol'ed at the devils designing breasts to trap women. Can't real, its an idiot thinking he/she is hilarious.

OP posts:
kveta · 14/10/2010 19:29

wow, that is spectacularly loopy blue - how grim that your SIL put it on FB though.

ChutesTooNarrow · 14/10/2010 20:12

Hey it's kveta the troll! I was pmsl earlier at your innocent thread in property going a bit loopy. How is Oli?

OP posts:
kveta · 14/10/2010 20:44

ha ha - yes, was a bit of an odd thread that one!

Oli is better - fever has been coming in roughly 12 hour waves, but it's not malaria, so it's really anyone's guess what caused it. he was going from so cold we thought he'd been in the freezer to so hot the thermometer was shouting at us (got to 40.1 at one point). he's still a bastard with sleep (like mads and gabe by the sound of things - maybe it is an ear infection like zoe?) - he was knackered today, drugged up to the eyeballs for most of it, and had a grand total of 40 minutes in naps - he needs at least 2 hours, preferably 3 to make it through the day, so he's been a little shit all day. finally got him to sleep at 7, thought 'woohoo!' and he woke up 5 minutes later, so I left him to scream (heartless mummy, I know) and at 8 cuddled him to sleep - that's him just gone down now. gah!

we haven't put an offer in yet on the house ladyem - going for another viewing on saturday, plus looking at a few others in our price range. I'm quite shocked at how tiny some houses are round here - there's one we're viewing which is 3 bed but only 70 sq metres - we're in a bigger than that 2 bed place at the moment and it's tiny, so god knows how they fit 3 beds into that! and it's out of our price range! but we're being nosy and having a look anyway! we've been wanting to buy for yonks, but living in london made it unrealistic, then I was in the USA for 10 months, which also got in the way a bit. DH wants to be a home owner so very much, I really hope we get somewhere! it's remarkably knackering though, just looking for somewehre and having about a zillion meetings with mortgage advisors and working and having a sick child to look after!

ooh, is anyone going to watch the secret millionaire on sunday? just for the cute september baby, of course :o (I'm assuming you've seen the FB statuses about it?)

chutes - photos of gabe are very cute, he's a gorgeous wee boy! and so many teeth! ladyem, enjoy your holiday :)

right, best get washing up done, then hit the sack - hopefully Oli will be well enough for the childminder tomorrow, as I can't really miss another day of work, and nor can DH.

blue76 · 15/10/2010 08:33

Thanks for having a look, folks! She received a torrent of abuse from other users, including myself and dp. Luckily for her she was quick to reply - she didn't actually agree with it, but had come across it and posted it on Facebook to see what other people thought! She said she's reported the site to google and suggested others do the same...

Using my phone to go on this at the mo - will be back later to catch up properly!

blue76 · 15/10/2010 08:35

Btw on Facebook I am Madeleine Bell (profile pic of my three girls and me) Grin

kveta · 15/10/2010 09:19

can't find you blue - but see if you can find me via email mouldygoldfish at hotmail dot com :)
oli a little better today, so I'm at work - shout at me if you see me on here today, as I've got tonnes to do!!

BerryLellow · 15/10/2010 13:16

That was awful blue - I hope she really is reporting it, and wasn't just testing the water to find like minded people. There's some nutters out there that's for sure.

What's the secret millionaire thing? Have I missed something?

AprilMeadow · 15/10/2010 13:44

Berry, I think its just that the new series starts on Sunday. We will be watching :o

BerryLellow · 15/10/2010 15:43

But I haven't seen any FB statusses about it!

Hey kveta, nice use of the phrase 'wanking on' in the Jamie Oliver webchat :o

BerryLellow · 15/10/2010 15:59

Oh duh, I'm so stupid sometimes - My FB ha gone weird lately and not showing me certain people's updates Confused Have reset it all now...

And yes, will be watching! :o

kveta · 15/10/2010 17:27

good, saves me the bother of trying to come up with some secretive code way of telling you where to look barry! :o

I used to work with a guy who used the term 'wanking on' to describe pretty much anything in politics and the media. I must try not to use it too much in front of Oli - he said 'DIE Mama DIE' the other day which was a bit freaky Confused I think he's properly making word sounds at last, but he may be possessed.
