So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

Macro?

ChutesTooNarrow · 08/08/2011 20:49

Oh I spelt it wrong. Makro Like a discount chain for businesses. You have to work in certain trades to get membership (I haven't asked how DP acquired his). Then you can buy 200 loo rolls for pennies (waiting until I get the loft boarded before I do indeed buy 200 loo rolls).

BerryLellow · 08/08/2011 22:37

:o I haven't heard of Makro either! We have Bookers, is that the same? Big drums of Nescafe and the like?

DuchessEm · 09/08/2011 13:12

Ahhhh, brings back memories of going to Makro as a student for pens and paper and coming out with a new stereo and big tubs of sweets! Grin Not sure how we acquired a Makro card, either, but loads of stores have closed down and I don't think we have one near us any more.

My Brother works for BT and apparently stealing phone lines is big business!! They get lots of money for the copper in the cables. He said that near him they stole 2km of cable and 2 weeks on some people still don't have phones working.

Have purchased part of J's birthday present. Got him a station for his train set and have ordered a train with his name on (the ones with letters for carriages). He has 2 little Thomas the tank engine toys to unwrap on holiday, so I might get him a little something extra, but he at least has something to unwrap now! He has had a sudden growth spurt and has grown out of all of his trousers, so as it is too cold for shorts today he is looking a little like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=too+short+trousers&hl=en&biw=1024&bih=419&tbm=isch&tbnid=eCtTX_DYzC8WgM:&imgrefurl=www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php%253Ft%253D873288%2526page%253D9&docid=k6iXQzjCyCj1AM&w=267&h=400&ei=_iJBTuueMIil8QOOweS-CQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=522&vpy=38&dur=1031&hovh=114&hovw=77&tx=88&ty=198&page=7&tbnh=114&tbnw=77&start=74&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:74" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this!! Grin (although without the brogues!!)

Kveta · 15/08/2011 14:29

good grief, where does the time go? next tuesday it'll be a year since this thread started :o we are not a particularly chattery bunch, are we?!

we have good news - Oli has not only slept through for 2 nights in a row, but also gone to sleep in under 30 minutes Shock we took the side of his cotbed off, and he is so much happier! it's only been 2 days though, so who knows what tonight will bring. the other bonus is we've moved a really comfy chair into his room for us to sit on, so waiting for him to nod off is much easier!

has anyone else got hooked on pinterest yet? I know Bazza has, as I'm following you on it! but I am totally in love with it. I actually want an excuse to have a party so I can use some of the party ideas I've seen there :o trying to convince DH that I NEED a big 30th birthday party, despite never showing any inclination towards such a thing in the past!! we're celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary with a curry I think, so you can probably tell, we're not much for the partying!

hope you have a lovely holiday DuchessEm!

BerryLellow · 15/08/2011 23:13

I'm spending far too much time on pinterest, dp is getting huffy :o

Planning 2nd birthday / housewarming type thing for next month so I can try some of the pretentious genius food ideas :o

Less than 100 posts to go, let's finish and relieve chutes of her duty as firestarter!

Kveta · 16/08/2011 09:15

ha ha, I am busy planning a very poncy birthday party menu for O :o what food ideas do you have in mind? I've decided (so far!) to do cream cheese sandwich 'sushi' (so rolls of cream cheese on bread), cherry tomatoes with cocktail sticks to encourage Oli all the children to eat them, cocktail sausages. then sweeter stuff - fruit kebabs, and some little cut outs of apple or watermelon, if I can get watermelon (need a use for all my cookie cutters!!). then for a cake, he's getting a chocolate victoria sponge with white icing and Timmy on the top (he loves Timmy Time at the moment). maybe some wee sheep cupcakes too, we'll see. I also want to make the button cookies, because they are CUTE and look easy :o and for nursery he needs a cake too, so will be making a horse shaped marbled sponge, so it's a zebra cake.

my grandmother called yesterday to say she wants to get him a scooter for his birthday, so he is going to be thrilled to bits with that! she wanted one with a built in water pistol, so I managed to dissuade her from such grimness.

now, keep posting everyone!!

BerryLellow · 16/08/2011 13:34

A built in waterpistol? On what planet is that a good idea?!

You can get ones with chalk underneath now too, so that when you grind them, they draw on the pavement. As you do.

BerryLellow · 16/08/2011 13:35
Kveta · 16/08/2011 13:50

you can get ones with built in bubble machines too. I feel very aged and disapproving when I go into toy shops now.

DuchessEm · 16/08/2011 14:12

What's this pinterest thing then? (Like I need another excuse to waste time on the internet! Grin )

Nearly all packed, just the last few bits to go in once I can get them dried and off the washing line! We have 3 cases, 2 car seats in bags, the pushchair, 2 trunkis for the DCs hand luggage and hand luggage each for me and DH! And I am still under our allowance, so could actually take another small bag! Am dreading the flight, but have my trusty chill-out pills! Took half of one last night to check the dosage (they have given me quite a high dose, so I wanted to try out a half dose before hand in case I end up having to be wheeled through the airport on a trolley!) and must admit was feeling pretty good! Grin Fingers crossed for a smooth flight and well behaved children. We have to get up at 3am so I am hoping that they will sleep a bit on the plane. Either that or they will play up big stylee!

Bought the last of DD's uniform today, so we are all set for the big day. I am really not looking forward to it and to boot she starts on my birthday, so no nice family lunch like we've had in previous years. But she is very excited, so I am keeping this all to myself as I want her to be looking forward to it and not worrying about it. At least I still have J for another 2 years!

Right, will this thread be finished by the time I get back?!! Grin

DuchessEm · 16/08/2011 14:12

Just to help you out!! Grin

Kveta · 16/08/2011 14:17

ah, pinterest is amazing DuchessEm - it's a virtual notice/pin board. so if you see something online and think 'hmm, must remember that for the future', you can pin it to a board. and you can browse other people's boards and repin stuff from them. it's addictive!

let me (or bazza) know if you need an invite :) apparently you do need to have an email address with a real name in it if you just request to join the site yourself, as they need proof you're a real person :)

DuchessEm · 16/08/2011 17:48

Oooh, yes please! That sounds fab! Grin

ChutesTooNarrow · 17/08/2011 15:02

I am just about to investigate pinterest (like I need another thing on the internet to waste time on Hmm).

Have a lovely holiday Em. I would need a bucket load of industrial strength valium to get me on a plane with my demon toddler. I am terrified of flying as it is. It hasn't stopped me going places but sometimes I have to weigh up if the trip is worth the three weeks of terror beforehand and then spending the hours on the plane thinking 'oh god, oh god, we're all going to die'.

Your party for Oli sounds amazing Kveta. I have just found out the outlaws are on holiday for G's birthday so his celebrations will just be a very small affair with cake and tea. I may open a bag of crisps as well.

Clingy toddler is clingy today. Why is it the day you actually want to do things that they want to hang off your knees mewing miserably?

ChutesTooNarrow · 17/08/2011 15:16

I've requested an invite. how long does it take?

ChutesTooNarrow · 17/08/2011 15:30

I'm in! Goodbye afternoon! Luckily my sister is here to entertain G so that he doesn't go feral Grin

woo! come and follow me on pinterest! pinterest.com/mouldygoldfish/

my toddler is into full on hair pulling mode, so is getting a lot of being removed from the scene. he is not enjoying it.

i have a conference call in 20 minutes, which gives him time to work himself up into a good 30 minute yelling frenzy to cover the whole thing.

BerryLellow · 17/08/2011 21:57

We will get to thread 3!

BerryLellow · 17/08/2011 21:59

We also need to decide on the title of the next one...
