So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

ooh, verrry nice chutes - in pink or blue?

my mum has just told me a microplane is a really boring present, so she won't get me one. I'm not impressed - my lovely american microplane snapped the other day, and I'm bereft without it. no food with citrus zest for several days, it's just not right.

i've managed 19 days of shred now, in 30 days - not quite what I intended, but with so little sleep, I'm happy to have even managed that! feeling a little fitter already :o

my house is a tip as usual. I'm quite slovenly in my ways. Blush

ChutesTooNarrow · 09/02/2011 22:04

The blue one. It looks like it will fit in with my flared jeans and converse uniform.

You have done brilliantly with the shred, I have been too scared to do it for ages. I haven't wii fitted since friday due to illness and now I am terrified to get back on it tomorrow in case I have put on weight. I have just eaten rubbish the last few days Biscuit

I have shredded...

once!

Lazyem · 10/02/2011 10:07

Nice bag, Chutes!! I never think of looking at Boden for stuff like that! You doing anything nice for your birthday?

Berry - once is better than never!! Grin

Crap - what's a microplane? (Should I know what this is?! Grin ) Have you decided how to decorate your cake yet? I've been reading up on how to do a Lightning McQueen cake, but seeing as I have only ever done bog-standard round cakes, I'm not hopeful it will turn out right!! May be I should just buy a cake topper instead!!

I'm having an anxious week this week all triggered by (and when you read this you're going to think I've completely lost it!! Blush ) a sign up at DDs nursery on Monday saying that they have a sick bug going round and can you please keep children off for 48 hours afterwards. I have managed to resist the urge to not send her, but it makes me anxious and I don't know why!! I know that she will pick up bugs, but I feel the need to protect her from it, like it will be my fault if she catches anything. Thing is, that sign could have been up for weeks as it was on a notice board that I don't usually see because DD is normally in a different room! Gahhhhh! Need to get a grip!

On a lighter note, we've decided to go for a weekend to Disneyland Paris for DD's birthday! I got us a fantastic deal and we'll drive down, so we can take a break when the kids get a bit restless in the car! Needless to say DD is very excited and will probably be going in her princess outfits every day! Grin

Lazyem · 10/02/2011 10:08

Sorry, reading that back it sounds attention seeking. I just thought it might help to get to get it out! Blush

LJ29 · 10/02/2011 10:31

Its not attention seeking at all! I think we naturally want to protect them from illness -(as well as not wnting to deal with the mess)!

crapbarry · 10/02/2011 10:50

this is a microplane - I never knew why anyone would need one, then my room mate in the USA had one, and I used it once, and now I'm a total convert!!

I had a similar reaction at nursery last week ladyem - there was a sign in the window that someone in the baby room had swine flu, and I had that visceral reaction to protect Oli.

have fun in paris - when is her birthday?

Lazyem · 10/02/2011 11:08

Thanks, ladies! I have been going mad checking on her at night to make sure she hasn't been sick. Would have been even worse had there been that sign for swine flu! Shock (But that will just get me started on a 'why aren't they aren't vaccinating children against it this year' rant!) This is the core of my anxiety and tend to over react to this kind of situation. I think if you could tell me that none of us would ever get ill I would be free of anxiety! I think I have picked up on it from my Mum, so I am trying really hard not to pass it on to my 2.

Ooooh, now I've seen Jamie Oliver using one of those on his 30min meals programme! I would have thought that was a good present, but then I asked for a potato ricer for christmas and didn't get it!

DD's birthday is at the beginning of April and we were going to go to Centre Parcs, but Disney worked out cheaper and looks like a lot of fun! Grin Plus DH has a friend who has moved to Paris and so we are going to meet up with them one of the days.

crapbarry · 10/02/2011 11:14

i got my dad a potato ricer for christmas 2 years ago, he loves it! mum hates it though, because she has to wash it up :o my sister got her a ukulele for last christmas in revenge, as dad loathes them :o

BerryLellow · 10/02/2011 17:16

I have a potato ricer!

Am very interested in the microplane now, I can't resist kitchen niceties. I had a chick brick for my birthday last year after reading about them on here... Currently waiting for Amazon to send me my spanking new food processor so I can get properly into the 30 minute book instead of skirting round the edges.

Lazyem · 10/02/2011 19:36

I think that owning the potato ricer and the microplane would make me feel very grown up!! Grin The sausage cassoulet and the chicken pie from Jamie's 30 MM has gone down very well here! Trouble is, now I have done some 'real' cooking I feel a bit bad just bunging a pizza in the oven on those days when you really can't be bothered to peel carrots!! I had the stuff for the cauliflour macaroni cheese thing, but the DCs decided that they no longer liked cheese sauce. Hmm I have done it since with my normal cheese sauce recipe (from Annabell Karmel book) and liked it much more!

Right, really ought to get some uni work done tonight! I have been procrastinating long enough! Grin

crapbarry · 11/02/2011 11:12

ha, I've got my super-skinny sister (the bridesmaid) doing the shred, and she just messaged me that it hurts to type :o

ladyem, I have far too many can't be arsed to cook properly days now - I used to cook every day, now it's more like 5 nights a week, with at least 1 night of pizza, and 1 of leftovers. Life is too short really.

enjoy your 30 minute meals bazza, DH has requested the scallops and rice one (but with chicken instead of scallops) for his birthday next week. I've requested a take away for mine :o

crapbarry · 11/02/2011 21:45

ooh, I know it's too late for a Brew but cute icon!

ChutesTooNarrow · 11/02/2011 22:14

Actually I just had a Brew of decaf Earl Grey!

And now I am off to bed. Good night!

Lazyem · 12/02/2011 08:10

Yay! They did it! Love a [tea] first thing in the morning!! Grin

DH has got the kids up this morning so I am having a nice lie-in before he goes out to visit his Granny. She's 95 and very frail, so taking the DCs to her tiny flat is out of the question! Pity, because I love going to see her. She was a fever nurse in the war and has some amazing stories! Got some nice stuff for DH to take up for lunch, though as we're not sure that she is eating much.

You all got nice weekends planned?

Lazyem · 12/02/2011 08:10

Oh, it didn't work!

Ahh, I see what I did... Brew

crapbarry · 15/02/2011 13:34

it's a bit quiet on here!

had a spectacularly boring birthday yesterday - I ended up watching Glee on my own in the evening, after cooking a totally uninspired meal for us all. Och well. I now have less than a year left until I hit 30, so am panicking.

Also planning my ticket purchases for London 2012, I really really want to go to some events! I'm going to try for the opening ceremony and 1 sporting event - probably show jumping or modern pentathlon. Is anyone else planning to go?

BerryLellow · 15/02/2011 14:10

I hadn't even thought about 2012 yet, you're very on the ball! Thinking about it, I'd definitely like to see something. Showjumping would be right up my street - where are they doing all the horsey stuff? Olympia?

I'm expecting a spectacularly boring birthday on Friday TBH, although we are going out for dinner with friends on Sat. I thought I'd panic more about the big 3 0 but when it came around I was quite meh about it. Maybe because I had J, and felt I'd morphed into 'mum aged' already, and also my mum had a lumpectomy that week and was at the beginning of breast cancer treatment. All seemed like a good reason to celebrate being around! I am slightly nervous that I'm creeping towards 40 though. More because I want to have some sort of personal achievement other than my beautiful boys.

We took DP's other son out for the day on Sunday. It was quite nice, all boys had a very giggly day, with swimming, lunch, ice creams and playground. Felt weird having 3 children with us instead of 2 (but kind of nice!!!!)

What's new this week everyone? I really must write on here more, Chutes you're right about these threads being good reminders for the future :)

crapbarry · 15/02/2011 14:17

here olympic-y stuff!

horsey goings on are in Greenwich Park I think - I would dearly love to watch the eventing, but doubt Oli would stay still for it, plus it's standing only, and we're sort of hoping to have another child either in arms or in bump by august 2012!

it'll be pricey though - just getting to and from Greenwich park will be about £40 for all 3 (or 4!) of us, then there's the tickets, which I'm only going for £20 a head ones, so if they have a pay your age thing too, that'll be £42 or £43 quid. then food, memorabilia, etc. oh well. it's only happening once in my lifetime!

BerryLellow · 15/02/2011 14:34

I've just 'registered my interest' :o

Lazyem · 15/02/2011 17:02

My 30th was spent mainly on my own as DH was at a work's event oop north the night before and could only leave at about 2pm on my actual birthday to drive back to Bristol where we were living at the time. I was also about 8 weeks pregnant with DD, so I was at that 'gag at the smell of food' stage and when DH rang to see if I wanted anything fetching on his way home for tea I asked for a pizza and when he got home he opened the pizza and I had to tell him to take it out of the house or I would puke!! Blush We also have a lovely photo of me holding the gorgeous chocolate birthday cake he had got for me, holding my nose so the smell didn't make me sick!! Grin Nice!

Does this mean that I am the old lady of the thread? Grin

Will have a look at that website as I'm sure DH will like to go to see something! I'm not really very sporty and usually only watch the winter Olympics but it would be fab to actually go!

ChutesTooNarrow · 15/02/2011 17:45

I was 11 or 12 weeks pregnant on my 30th. I couldn't have cared less about it, I was so excited and happy to be pregnant. My best friend (30 the day after me) had organised a joint do with meal and a visit to the casino after. I couldn't eat a thing! I was also quite wary I didn't want to steal her 30th birthday thunder by announcing my pregnancy but most of my friends guessed - they knew we were ttc - so it was a bit OMG YOU'RE PREGNANT all night. I bought the most absolutely beautiful dress from Coast for the night and I still can't fit back in to it Sad

The company I just left is a big sponsor for 2012 so I had always assumed I would be going to a few events on the corporate ticket. Have just realised that is not going to happen now! Si and I are F1 nuts so we would prefer to get to a grand prix over the Olympics. Having said that I would happily watch the gymnastics.

Hi all Hope everyone is OK

ChutesTooNarrow · 16/02/2011 20:29

I am the usual! Tired, tired, bloody tired. I knew my run of getting four hours a night wouldn't last.

We joined the library and picked up a bookstart pack today. Gabe is the proud owner of a dinosaur library card and had a lot of fun climbing on the tiny chairs in the children's section. He wasn't so interested in the books Hmm

I have been brave and got in touch with a toddler group meeting tomorrow. I think Gabe really needs to interact more with small people so I am forcing myself to go and am bricking it slightly. Must remember to brush my hair tomorrow.

hope everyone has a good weekend! and happy birthday OriginalBarry! :o

Oli spends all our time at the library trying to escape through the magic doors, or harrassing folks who are using the self checkout computers - he is far far too interested in computers, that boy.
