So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

BerryLellow · 11/11/2010 12:46

Oh poor all of you, ear infection makes total sense, and if it's any consolation my friends and I always, always miss them and feel awful at the doctors!

Shock at the amount of toilet business he was able to do in a short space of time! Mads loves being naked but I have to follow him about with disinfectant wipes for the little pools he leaves :o

Today I have been to the hell of Asda to get party supplies for J's 5th birthday on Saturday. Oh the things you do for your children... Can't believe I became a mum 5 years ago, I'm sure I was 27 years old the other day. Oh well, push on

Chutes, do you have layered hair atm?

:)

ChutesTooNarrow · 11/11/2010 21:04

Oh dear. My hair was layered. It was layered beautifully on the last haircut I had on my 30th birthday when I was 12 weeks pregnant. But for the last year I have just grabbed the ends and chopped as necessary Blush

Gabe drove me crackers today. He trashed the house so when the gales and end of the world style rain paused I thought he could let off steam at the park. Except when we got there he clung shyly to my leg and refused to move Hmm. He can now climb on the sofa and chairs and today terrified me with his dismount which is basically to fling himself face down and hope for the best. I have no wine in the house so am currently mainlining chocolate that was meant to be for my stocking instead (DPs fault for leaving it in plain sight on top of a kitchen cupboard). I hope everyone else had a less traumatic day.

OP posts:
BerryLellow · 12/11/2010 09:07

Yesterday wasn't too traumatic but this morning hasn't begun well... Mads woke at 6, so I took him into our bed, whereupon his nappy leaked over the clean sheets (changed last night) and my hand Hmm all lights on, woke up J, the dog, the whole street probably. To add to the chaos, the dog being let out early (in the dark) to the back garden stood in crap and trod it through downstairs Hmm Hmm Aaaargh.

Mads is already being clingy and whiny, so now going out in the rain with him to pick up J's present is going to be a barrel of laughs

...and rantlock off

Chutes why don't you have your hair re-layered, with the shortest being the length you ideally want your hair to be, then you might get used to that sort of shape and volume. Then gradually (if you like it) you can have the rest of the hair cut up towards that over a couple of cuts? So the gradient is less each time, IYKWIM? Failing that, you could have it chopped to just below shoulder length, that's usually a good indicator of either 'aaaargh, I want my hair back!' in which case it doesn't take too long to grow long again, or 'feck it, take the rest off, lt's live dangerously' (closely followed by aaargh, I want...') :o Sorry if none of this makes sense, I'm a bit addled today.

kveta, how are the ears in your house today? :)

Ladyem · 12/11/2010 09:36

Rubbish start to the day here, too. DH was up at 2.30am complaining that he felt ill and was fidgeting all night so I didn't sleep until he left for work at 6am. Then DD came in at 7am just as I was snoozing happily and jumped on the bed! I made her sit with the mothercare catalogue and start he list to Santa to keep her quiet!

Now have to go out to find a red hair clip for the Nursery photos this afternoon at DD's other nursery as they are doing Christmas cards for £2 so I am putting them in red and as DD is growing her fringe out I need to clip it back so that she doesn't look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.coolest-homemade-costumes.com/images/coolest-cousin-it-from-the-addams-family-costume-21305637.jpg&imgrefurl=www.coolest-homemade-costumes.com/coolest-cousin-it-from-the-addams-family-costume.html&h=400&w=291&sz=23&tbnid=SQM20KTuv6tllM:&tbnh=263&tbnw=191&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcousin%2Bit&zoom=1&q=cousin+it&usg=__mO9NfZY3RD451wLgQsmDPhmo5yc=&sa=X&ei=XQjdTJeEPInQhAeqmaWBDQ&ved=0CBkQ9QEwAg" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Cousin It!!

Also J is now fully on cows milk and as a result is not going to the toilet at all and is hardly eating so is a joy at meal times!

Berry - that's what I did in the end with my hair. I had some layers put in then used to keep pulling the long bits back so that I could check that it would look OK the shortest length! Then I went in and said 'chop it all off!' I am now thinking of trying to grow it again for a change as I've had the same haircut for 2 years. But I hate the growing out phase so just keep cutting it again!! My hairdresser also hates long hair so any time I get anywhere near being able to put a ponytail in she wants to cut it all off!! Grin

Kveta - Hope everyone is feeling a bit better today. Are the ABs kicking in yet?

Ooo, and DH's birthday cake was a success!! Even made fudgy icing to go on it and DD covered it in toffee pieces and pink glitter!!

Now today's mission is to get DD out of the teeny tiny shorts that she is insisting on wearing and into tights and a skirt so that she doesn't freeze when we go out later!

BerryLellow · 13/11/2010 08:17

I've been a mum for 5 whole years today! :o

Ladyem · 13/11/2010 11:28

Ahhhh, I hope that J has a fantastic day! Grin Is he having a party?

DH and I actually went out last night!! Got a babysitter and everything! There is an Italian restaurant in our village which is really nice, so we just went there and ate nice food and tried to not talk about the DCs!! Grin

Have been for a gym induction today at our leisure centre and I felt like such a granny when the child 18 year old boy was showing me round the computer system that logs everything that you do!! I tried to look knowledgeable when he was getting enthusiastic about how you could plug your ipod into the running machine and watch a film while you are exercising!! Hmm Grin

kveta · 13/11/2010 11:45

happy birthday J!

still feeling ill here - I've got the most ghastly cold still, now got ear, throat, and chest infections, so am rattling with antibiotics and painkillers, and not sleeping because of the bloody grim cough. Oli is so much happier though - his antibiotics have kicked in, and he slept 8 hours in a row last night! I want to go back to GP and give her a hug and a biscuit :o DH is feeling shaky today though, so I think he's going down with it. just hope we're all healthy by the end of the month for our trip up north!

very jealous you got to go out ladyem - hope it was nice :)

BerryLellow · 14/11/2010 08:37

Hello everyone, thanks for your birthday wishes for my big boy - he had an amazing day and was very spoilt! I did a party for about 20 children who all basically ran around like headless chickens. DP had booked a bouncy castle from his friend's business but not checked the measurements, cue very squished castle in tiny hall. Luckily we had sunshine in the middle of the day so we were able to put it outside Hmm :o

hope you had a better night kveta, sucks when you're awake and the children are asleep, seems so unfair.

So, now with J's birthday out of the way I need to get Christmas sorted. After the initial flurry of chutney making I've gone a bit quiet! What do you all get/do for your DP/DH? Mine is horrendously hard to buy for, he's such a fussarse :o

Ladyem · 14/11/2010 09:33

I'm getting DH a new coat or new shoes!! Very romantic, eh?!! He's a nightmare to buy for, so he gets things he needs, or rather things that I think he needs!! Grin Then will get him some toffees, cider, toiletries as little stocking fillers.

Ladyem · 14/11/2010 11:29

ps, Berry, you did a party for 20 kids!!! Shock I bet you were shattered by the time they all left! Is this what I have to look forward to once DD starts school?!! Grin

BerryLellow · 15/11/2010 08:55

I need new gloves, my hands hurt from the school run!

Did everyone have a nice weekend?

Ladyem · 15/11/2010 10:15

Whoops, we were late for nursery today! Had to scrape frost off the car before we could leave! Will be glad when she's in school so that we can just walk round the corner!! Grin

Never mind, the sun is shining, DD is in nursery until 3pm, J is asleep and I am having half an hour to myself before I commence the big toy clear out to make space for the stuff they will get at Christmas! I've been putting it off for weeks, but I should really do it while DD is out or she will be taking stuff out of the bags quicker than I'm putting it in!!

ChutesTooNarrow · 15/11/2010 11:36

Hello. I had a lovely weekend, I went out Shock I drove so I wasn't drinking but I was giddy with excitement so was fine being surrounded by drunk friends, just wish my lovely DP had been there as well.

Gabriel was horrible last night, just would not sleep. I had some sympathy at the start of the night as DP accidentally dropped him into the cot Hmm but he sleep fitfully until about 4 where he gave up and wanted to party. I am very tired and grumpy this morning.

Christmas presents for my DP are quite easy as he studiously updates his amazon wishlist. He has requested Mad Men style whiskey glasses from me, and I will get a PS3 remote for his Playstation from Gabe. His stocking will consist of various bottles of stupidly hot chili sauce as his idea of a good time is eating sauces so hot he can't speak for half an hour Hmm I was impressed to find so many websites dedicated to stupidly hot sauces so I guess he can't the only person who does this.

It is really cold here today, am wrapped in a blanket on the sofa half-heartedly doing a food order and watching Gabe roam the floor. I have no plans to do anything constructive today!

kveta · 15/11/2010 12:33

hiya, we had an ok weekend given the family health! I managed a few hours sleep, which has renewed me a bit - am in work today, but leaving early as still feel like death. I've got to give a seminar tomorrow, so thought I should probably come in and write the bloody thing! Hope I can make it through without coughing my lungs up on my colleagues. I'm still trying to decide whether to include a photo of oli playing with a toy parasite in the seminar - too cheesy?!

I've got DH a new fleece for christmas, as well as a book by Dara O'Briain that I want to read, and will get him a slab of Hotel chcolat choc too. Oli will get him slippers as his are disintegrating. I've made a wishlist on amazon for DH to peruse, and have actually gone through it with him indicating things I'd like. He's a bit hopeless at presents. We've decided to get oli something else for christmas, probably toy eggs, but haven't decided yet. I wanted to get him cutlery and a tumbler which looks like a mini version of the ones DH and I use, but is not glass, but DH said 'that's not a christmas present!'. this from the man who got me a textbook one year...

baltic here too, we're all scarved up. I'm going to wrap oli up nice and warm and go and infect the local library this afternoon to let him run off some steam. he slept ok last night, so is back in our good books again - he was such a delight this morning, running around beaming and chuckling. I told him if that's what a good night's sleep does for him, imagine what it would do for his parents, but feel that the message was lost on him as he posted his toy ghost through the stair gate, cackling madly.

right 30 minutes left of work, woohoo!

Ladyem · 15/11/2010 12:57

I have to ask, Kveta, where do you buy a toy parasite from?!! Grin Definitely include the photo!! It will make them smile! Glad you are all feeling a bit better now. Those toy eggs are fab, they have them at DDs playgroup and she is always playing with them!

Chutes, DH also loves really hot chilli sauce!! I might get DH to make an Amazon list, too. It would make my life much easier! As it is, I have to try to find something for his birthday then Christmas is only 7 weeks later, so I have to then rack my brains for something else!! He got a fleece and a bag for his laptop for his birthday and DD picked him out a scarf and J got him a t-pot for work (this was the only thing he asked for and was very specific with what type of t-pot it should be!). So at the minute it is still either a coat or new shoes for him!!

BerryLellow · 15/11/2010 12:57

I have to write a list too, but Amazon is slightly lost on DP, he has to get someone else to do online ordering for him, h'e such a technophobe Hmm

I really need to get rid of some toys too, after J's birthday we're overrun. He was given some lovey stuff on Saturday, and some things that made me go Hmm - kung zhu hamster anyone?! No, I don't know either...

Just went to a friend's house to drop off a birthday present and Mads managed to crack his head on her coffee table, so has gone down for his nap with a mean looking lumpy bruise on his forehead!

kveta · 15/11/2010 14:20

[http://www.giantmicrobes.com/uk/orderform.php here] ladyem :o
we've got a sleeping sickness and a bed bug. and have just seen they do leishmania now (albeit one that I've never heard of despite working on them for ~8 years Confused) so that may have to be acquired!!

giardia is the cutest one imo though :o

kveta · 15/11/2010 14:21

Ladyem · 15/11/2010 14:44

Grin Grin I'm quite liking herpes and chlamydia Grin

BerryLellow · 15/11/2010 16:46

That's not something you should ever admit to Ladyem, no matter how anonymous the forum :o :o

kveta · 15/11/2010 17:00

:o my sister gave dad syphilis for christmas one year :o

he starts his STD lectures like that now "my daughter gave me syphilis". says it always silences the room completely :o :o :o

Ladyem · 15/11/2010 17:39
Grin

I can just imagine the conversation at playgroup-

"So what did little J get for Christmas then?"
"Well we couldn't decide between Anthrax or Lyme disease so we got him both!!" Grin

Think I have now found what I'm getting DH for Christmas!! Grin Grin

BerryLellow · 15/11/2010 18:59

What are they actually meant for, kveta?! They are incredibly cute, I'm just wondering what sort of market they are aimed at? Love it!

kveta · 15/11/2010 19:12

I think they were originally for medics, and education - but now they're for geeks like me :o
