September 09 - Hello world, we're here to destroy you!

So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

BerryLellow · 08/11/2010 12:15

Newborns and all the excitement do make me go a bit melty too, there's been a couple of them recently and I've thought awwwwww. I don't know if we'll have anymore. Heart says yes, head says logistical nightmare :o

Ladyem · 08/11/2010 13:02

Well, if you want putting off for a bit my friend is currently 8 weeks pregnant and at this minute has her head down the toilet! I'm surprisingly un-broody considering the amount of babies and pregnant ladies there are about at the minute.

Hope Oli feels better soon, Kveta. Everything seems to come at once, doesn't it? Love the new photo on FB!

Berry - you are good doing the soft play thing! I make any excuse to not go to those places as I come out in a really bad mood from the noise and big kids going ape in the toddler section!

Peachy - I hope that your DH starts to feel better soon. It's good that he is getting help. And I hope that your courses are going well! Smile

J is a misery guts today. Just put him down for another nap as he was rubbing his eyes while he was eating his lunch. Hoping he's not coming down with another cold.

BerryLellow · 08/11/2010 15:05

Not good really, I got there before it was busy and left when people arrived bringing the dreaded noise with them :o Can't do hordes of children it gives me palpitations!

Have surrendered...all day trying to do housework only to find that Madok has undone nearly everything I did. Gah. Off to get J from school.

:)

Ladyem · 08/11/2010 18:20

I've got nothing done today! Too busy trying to cheer up Ol' Grumpy Pants! Hmm Did do the Sainsbo's shop, though (and nipped in TK Maxx while I was there... I must stop going in there! Did get a nice purse, though!) Grin

AprilMeadow · 08/11/2010 19:33

Hello!!

Haha look at you all > getting broody!

I am 20wks this week (can you believe it?!) and have my scan next Thursday. Think the sickness lasted about 16wks or something Confused. All fine and dandy now thankfully :)

Lucy now has 12 teeth with the canines looking like they are going to be appearing very soon. Just wish they would hurry up as once we have them we really are done for a while! She climbs the stairs at break neck speed and is cruising, walks holding 1 hand and chatters away. She can say a fair few words: mama, dada, Jack, Ella, Rascal (the cat), baby, peppa pig Hmm(think she has watched it a bit too much!) bye bye, jelly and some others.

She has started to sleep through although the teething is bothering her. She also made the transition last week from formula to cows milk, which thankfully was very easy.

A meet up sounds fun! I can get to London by train if that helps..?

ChutesTooNarrow · 08/11/2010 20:14

Is there really a teething break after canines? Oh AprilMeadow you have made my day, I am back in teething hell again. I'm really to grumpy to post much, although my lovely DP has just handed me a box of Segsations so I may cheer up soon.

OP posts:
AprilMeadow · 09/11/2010 13:39

They only have 20 baby teeth and 17-20 are the back molars that come when they are between 2&4years old (well thats when mine have had them). So these bloody canines are the last 4 for a while.

She is off nursery sick today as still has a temperature and cough and cold and her breathing is a little fast. Not too worried as i know its all linked to teething and the weather. If no better tomorrow then i might call the dr's just to check.

DH has gone off to the World Travel Market at ExCel for 2 days. Not good timing as i could do with him here but never mind, will just have to man up and figure out how i will get out the house with all 3 tomorrow at 8.20am! He does the morning school runs so all i do is get them up dressed and ready!

What are you all getting the babies for xmas? I have not a clue!

LJ29 · 09/11/2010 13:52

Hi girls, i've been following but not had a lot to say really. Really busy with work and DH did a week of nights last week so we're all exhausted.

Harry's sleep seems to have settled down a bit (touches wood!). He now wakes just once for his dummy then gets up at about half six. He is teething again, think there are 10 now. Funnily though April he doesn't have any canines yet but does have 2 of the molars, strange Confused!

AprilMeadow · 09/11/2010 14:32

Dont forget you have pre molars and molars. Lucy has the pre molars.

ChutesTooNarrow · 09/11/2010 16:17

Ok, just bottom front canines to go and then a break. I can cope with this. Gabriel has been a wailing, hysterical, hyperactive banshee today and has just started leaking snot so I guess a cold is on the horizon. I feel like arse but I assumed because I am so tired, maybe I am ill too.

Glad to hear Harry is sleeping better LJ.

Peachygirl, really sorry to hear about your DH, as kveta says do use us if you want a rant. It is so hard to be the one who has to keep everything together.

I was terrified into buying some Christmas presents by some of you having sorted out Christmas in July or something. So Gabe will get a maraca, tambourine and a book in his stocking, and Duplo for his present from DP and I. I was thinking of suggesting my mum gets him a toy kitchen, or a baby trampoline to keep at her house (no room at ours for much more!)

I don't think we will get a Christmas tree, I don't know. I can't think were to put it where Gabe won't destroy it and I don't want to spend most of December protecting a frigging tree.

OP posts:
Ladyem · 09/11/2010 18:01

We still only have 6 teeth, so loads to go yet.

April, there is no way I'd be able to get 3 ready for school/nursery on my own!! I just about manage the nursery run for DD and we only have to leave at 8.50!! School will be easier as it is just round the corner, so I won't have to drive, but knowing me that will mean that I think I have loads of time to get ready and end up being even later as a result!! Grin Hope that Lucy feels better soon!

DD has all sorts of pink/princess/peppa pig paraphernalia for Christmas. She was easy to buy for, but J was a bit more difficult! We've got him some Thomas the tank engine trains, an iggle piggle doll as he's been carrying round DD's battered old one for the last few months, a bear from the the bear factory as he loves DD's one (that place is so addictive! DD spends all her rewards from her sticker chart in there!!), a weebles play thing, errm and some other bits and pieces that I can't think of at the minute! I had so many boots points saved up that I got £60 worth of toys free the other day! Grin I usually save them and buy myself some perfume, but that has all changed since having kids!

Chutes - I worried about that when DD was little, but she was curious for the first couple for days and then ignored it after that!

LJ - Glad to hear Harry's sleep is better!

It is so cold here today. The river that runs through the village has burst it's banks today, so I'm hoping that we don't get any more rain or the village will be flooded!! Shock

kveta · 09/11/2010 21:37

I'm feeling bad about oli's christmas present now - we've got him 2 board books from a charity shop and a pack of coloured pencils Blush in my defence, we're going abroad, and need to have lightweight gifts. plus he'll probably get some unsuitable tat from my grandmother, who thinks he is the best human being on the planet.

I've been off work today with a fever/throat infection/cold gone wrong. still feel like death warmed up. DH had to take the morning off to look after oli as I kept on fainting. largw quantities of lucozade and paracetamol have kept me going. I had to take oli to the doctors for his MMR - ooh, that was a grim one. he screamed his poor little head off and has been clingy and unhappy since :( even his first taste of chocolate buttons didn't console him, but just left chocolatey drool everywhere when he screamed. we've finally got him down - he's been sleeping really badly this week, DH and I are on our knees. I'm off to bed once this is posted.

has anyone else been reading the small sexual assaults? it's scary reading, so so many woman have been subject to abuse which has been ignored or ridiculed :( It's been educational to read it, but has also left me feeling down, which has confused DH. Luckily he's one of the good guys.

right, bed - must try and get an hour or 2 before himself awakes.

Ladyem · 10/11/2010 08:53

Kveta, I wouldn't worry about presents, my two have spent the week playing in the box that the new lawn mower came in!! All other toys forgotten as they think the box is the best thing ever! I didn't buy DD anything for her first Christmas except a bauble for the Christmas tree (I buy them each a new bauble every Christmas so that by the time they are in their teens we will hopefully have a lovely looking tree! I'm a bit soft like that!) and even for her 2nd Christmas I didn't really buy anything. They get stuff from other family members anyway, so they don't go without! Hope that you feel better soon. It is horrible being ill when you have a little one to look after.

Is Oli ok today after his jabs?

No more rain here today, thankfully. Last time the river flooded the pub also got flooded and it went half way up our street. My neighbour was 8 months pregnant at the time and on her way home from work had to abandon her car at the edge of the village and walk a mile in knee high water to get home!! Shock

Right, mission today is to bake DH's birthday cake. DD picked the decorations for it, so he will be getting a pink glittery cake! Grin

AprilMeadow · 10/11/2010 08:54

I survived!!! Up at 6.30, showered, dressed, hair & make up by 7.10.. Kids all dressed by 7.30 and then a nice leisurely breakfast before heading out the door at 8.20. All dropped off and back by 8.44 :o

It is never that easy when the two of us do it!!

Ladyem · 10/11/2010 08:59

Grin Yay! Well done! Hope you have a nice leisurely day planned now! It's not a nursery day here, so we are having a nice lazy breakfast in our PJs!

kveta · 10/11/2010 09:41

oli really isn't right - he's been shaking and screaming or whining since the jabs :( the leg where he got the booster is huge, red and swollen - and clearly very sore. He didn't sleep more than 45 minutes in a row last night - until the alarm went off at 6.30, when he conked out until 8.15 Confused Angry

I've had to stick him in nursery where they're going to try and get him to sleep, as I have a meeting at 10.30 - but will probably take him home after that. just waiting for the GP surgery to call back so I can make an appointment for sedatives treatment for his conjunctivitis which still seems to be hanging around - it's meant to be self-limiting!!

well done you april, are you going to take over the nursery/school runs from now on?! :o

enjoy your baking ladyem! :)

Ladyem · 10/11/2010 10:11

Ahhh, hope that he feels better soon. J was quite gumpy after his MMR and was more clingy than usual. They also told me too look out for symptoms a week to 10 days after the jab and then 3 weeks after as the jab apparently works on incubation times just like if they had the actual illnesses. He was not right about a week later, but was fine after that. TBH he can be a grumpy thing anyway, so it's hard to tell!! Grin He also got the swollen leg, so they told me to put a cold flannel on it to sooth it. I remember having some vaccinations before our honeymoon and my arm feeling very achy, so I can only imagine what their little legs feel like, especially when they have had one in each leg. Sad At least that is it now until they are 3 and a half. We're now coming to the point where DD is due her 2nd dose of MMR. We were given an appointment for the day before we went to Devon, but I cancelled as I didn't want her to be feeling ill in holiday so I'm now waiting for a new appointment. I think I'm going to need a big burly man to carry her in and hold her down as she won't even go in the surgery after having swine flu jab last Christmas. I borrowed a book from the library on going to the Drs and have done role play on her teddies with her nurses kit but she still maintains that she won't go. Think it might be a job for DH!

bigbang · 10/11/2010 10:37

Oh peachy I'm sorry to hear things are so tough at the moment. I hope you enjoy doing your course and that your DH continues recovering. I hope the girls are well, it would be great to see you again at a meet up! It's a shame we didn't have more while I was in London.

April- sorry I am so behind but I wanted to say I watched your DH on 4od recently, it was a fab program and he came across as a very genuine lovely bloke. It was a very moving episode. I hope everyone gets to school and nursery on time today, you seem to be so organised I am sure you will be fine! I need to get into a better routine for March and Uni as we are all still in PJs till about 10 most days. Ds does afternoon nursery and there seems to be no point in rushing to be up and dressed Blush. I think I will enjoy another month or two of lazy SAHMness before our lives our turned upside down!

I don't notice teething that much Hmm. I will notice when a new tooth pops through and then think ahhh so that is why she has been so ruddy clingy and miserable for the past few days. I think I may be blessed with two children who don't react badly to it, or I am highly unobservant.

I think I will keep bfeeding for a while yet. Dd is a chomper and I keep getting blisters from lazy morning feeds but hey ho. She only has two feeds a day now and a beaker of cows milk in the afternoon and it works well for the moment. She is happy to take the beaker morning and evening too so I can escape for a night (have done once) so it's not so bad. I plan to feed her till two all being well. I'm trying to get her to sleep better but it's not working yet. She screamed for an hour at 5am till I gave in and brought her into our bed.

Kveta Oli's presents sound great- dd is getting one of ds's old toys wrapped up Blush. It's a ELC click clack track which has been on the back of a shelf and hardly played with since ds was about two, so figured dd hasn't really seen it in action yet and I know she would LOVE it. I've hidden it for now. Will get books too and bath toys/chocolate buttons in her stocking. Ds is getting an imaginext space shuttle, DVD and stocking bits. I love christmas! Chutes we only put up a tree a few days before so it's not long to fight the kids off it! I would get a little one that can sit of a table/window ledge so it makes things easier but dp likes a huge tree which takes up half the room. It's a pain but like I say it's only for a week or so.

Ladyem I got a boots card after so many people telling me about using the points on brilliant stuff but I hardly use mine. How long did it take you to build up so many points?!

bigbang · 10/11/2010 10:42

Just seen your post Ladyem- dd's leg was huge after the mmr too! Poor things. She has been fine since though.

My ds is due for his 2nd does in Jan/Feb. I am not saying a word about it until the day before. And am taking chocolate buttons to sooth the wounded afterwards. Eeep.

I must go now as ds and dd are baking me a crumble cake with bacon in their kitchen. Yum yum.

Ladyem · 10/11/2010 11:06

I must say I've been saving up those points Since January! I don't go in that often, but when we go away for the weekend I stock up from there on nappies, wipes, toiletries etc, plus buying other odd bits and pieces. I am in the mum and baby club so on some things I get triple points which seems to have made a huge difference this year! I usually get to £20 worth of points and spend them so I was very excited to have so many to spend! Grin

Now only have 500 points left, so will try to save some more to get perfume for myself in the sale after Christmas!

Cake is in the oven, fingers crossed it rises!!

Enjoy your bacon crumble cake!! Grin

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/11/2010 13:57

I was really worried when Gabe started chomping during a feed but it only lasted a few weeks. I always unlatched him and said no. Now if only I could stop the slapping, pinching, twisting and poking that normally accompanies a feed it would be fab. Much as I would like it to dwindle down to 1-2 feeds a day I don't think Gabe does. Gabe feeds a lot, especially when teething. I can't see bf'ing stopping for a very long time. I think I am ok with that but I have to be because it would cause such distress (for Gabe) to stop. I have never particularly enjoyed bf but it got easier and I am lazy and love it for the convenience.

Gabe reacted to cows milk like I was trying to poison him but loves water. He gets so excited when I hand him a beaker of it.

I should get a tree, shouldn't I. I keep on thinking back to last year when I could leave my angelic baby who slept loads and never cried in his bouncy chair staring at the twinkling tree. Christmas last year is where I can pinpoint where it all went wrong. Gabe woke hourly Christmas night, then a tooth appeared and eczema started Sad

Hope Oli is better kveta. I must confess I have put off the mmr, I just really need to get Gabe through these current teeth and then we will go for it. I can't face adding to the misery if the jab makes him unwell and more sleepless.

I was meant to be going for Gabe's one year health check today but it was cancelled. Was so relived as half an hour before we were due there we were both in pjs Blush, I needed a shower and we both needed lunch!

BerryLellow · 10/11/2010 19:33

Hello everyone, I seem to have missed loads of chat in one day!

I think it's fantastic that you're still bfing (collective you), I didn't exactly plan to stop but Mads had been having expressed milk in a bottle and really loved it (I think he likes control!) So we were down to 1-2 feeds a day. When it was just the first morning feed left he started faffing with it, only making a half hearted attempt so I thought I would stop offering, and just feed if he wanted to. He hadn't night fed for quite a few months by this point, I certainly wouldn't be getting up to make bottles if that were still the case, am very lazy :)

His MMR leg seems ok, but the PCV one on the other side is a large hard lump, will have to keep an eye on it. It also seems to have had a somewhat explosive effect on his nappies

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/11/2010 20:22

I still have all my hair baz. Had a wobble about cutting it all off and will probably just go for a trim instead.

Gabe went to sleep tonight without any involvement from me Shock Am praying he manages to sleep long enough for me to scoff some Chinese and watch the Apprentice.

OP posts:
kveta · 10/11/2010 20:42

oli has an ear infection, which the lovely lovely GP reckoned explains his non-sleeping and relentless whinging and screaming. she said if the antibiotics don't get him sleeping better, she'd consider sedatives for a few days to get us a bit of a break. I nearly hugged her.

he just did the most enormous turd in the bath. I swear it was the same size as him. I wasn't sure which one to fish out and flush. Got the right on in the end, put him on the bath mat whilst I rinsed the bath out, whereupon he promptly pooed all over it and piddled everywhere. Then ran into the bedroom and (I swear) aimed his piddle under the cot. It's been a fun evening. He's been down since 8 and I've had to go up and resettle him twice, poor wee boy.

well done Gabe chutes! I shall join you in watching the apprentice and sneering at the twats rendering themselves unemployable for life.

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/11/2010 20:50

Oh poor Oli, and poor you. Sounds like a traumatic evening. I hope he sleeps for you.
