So the last thread could be used as proof that September 09 (and an August!) parents were kept far too busy by their babies to talk about them very often! Shall we see if we can get this one done before second birthdays (eek, 2 is so big) are upon us?

Ladyem · 02/11/2010 15:52

Ahhh, what lovely news, Berry! Grin My friend had a baby by IVF last year after many years of trying.

I'm very excited at the prospect of a holiday! DH and I have been together nearly 15 years and we have only had 5 holidays abroad (including our honeymoon!) so it will be lovely! Definitely doing a villa so we have some peace and quiet, but not sure where. I'd love to go to America one day. New York shopping or roller blading (very badly!) in California would be really good! May be when the DCs are old enough to leave with the grandparents. Or are at college! Grin

ChutesTooNarrow · 02/11/2010 16:21

Good grief you lot have been chatty Shock Gabriel, who really shouldn't be asleep at the moment, is asleep so am just frantically reading.

I can do Bristol, or London, or wherever south-ish really. Good motorway links round this way. Oh, and I'm totally up for camping on the Scillies! I love camping (not tried it with child though).

Sorry to hear about your aunt kveta. I did think Oli looked adorable though, I loved the costume you made.

Can I add my Envy Envy to Ladyems fashion degree! I love sewing, I adore my sewing machine but I am such an amateur and I have always wanted to be trained properly. I was meant to start an evening class in September but Gabe's (non) sleeping was just ridiculous and at the time hadn't really got a decent bedtime routine in place. I will do the course next year instead.

I have a Journalism degree, but went on to work in IT and managed to combine the two into Technical Authoring. I loved my job but have always wanted to be an architect. I could re-train I guess but I'm sure it's seven years training? It seems like a long time but then I realise even after babies I have 20-30 years of working ahead of me.

How amazing to have twins. I am truly awed at how people cope, I was flat out with just one. Yes, I am very broody, my family isn't complete yet. Something is stopping me from cracking on though, think it is the thought of pregnancy as there is no reason I have to wait.

bigbang, Gabe has also just found his tummy. He loves it, is constantly pulling his t-shirt up to show me. It's so cute.

I have been shocked with more teeth today, two top canines! Gabe has 12 through which I thought was loads and therefore I was desperately hoping that would be it for a bit. The build up to these has not been nearly as bad as normal so I am hoping sleep won't go too drastically out the window.

I am very excited as we have worked out we have space for a small dishwasher under the sink. I have spent today researching dishwashers and fitting them whilst Gabe threw Duplo at me. Just a typical day really.

BerryLellow · 02/11/2010 19:35

12?! Oh my god! Mads has still only got his bottom two actually through, although his gums are bulging with ones to come out. It's quite late really, J had more by this point. Oh well.. Biscuit

You lot are all so clever with your degrees. I wish I hadn't fannied around travelling and getting drunk working various weird jobs. I managed to qualify as a hairdresser by the skin of my teeth as I was pregnant with J at the time (all very unplanned), but I didn't want to go back to the job I was doing full time so I suppose I was determined to get the qualification. Seems a bit of a silly occupation, I should be using my brain more but Cornwall is not really the epicentre of exciting work opportunities. Being here is just too important for my children so I suppose this is what it is for now.

God, didn't mean to be so blah

I'm going to make you all go camping on the scillies mwah ha ha ha ha! :o

bigbang · 02/11/2010 22:23

Aw thanks for the nice cake comments. I was really pleased with it, mostly as my cousin loved it and I didn't ruin the day by cocking it up!

Dress making is great fun. Dd's dress was good to make as it uses such little material if it all goes wrong you haven't wasted reams of fabric on it. I made hers using fabric scraps I had already so it was free. Bargain. I only bothered as I spent ages trying to find a party dress that wasn't covered in pink/glitter/flowers/frills. Why do they not make plain and simple children's clothes anymore?!

Berry how fantastic for your friend! Twins must be something else! I hope her pregnancy goes smoothly.

Ooo lucky you ladyem, enjoy your holiday.

WRT a meet- it really depends on if we are bringing children or not. My ds has started getting travel sick so if we are bringing the smalls I wouldn't want to drive for more than an hour and a half from Cambridge really. Could do a train journey of a bit longer though. If it's just me I can go virtually anywhere.

Dd has 7 teeth- four on top and three on the bottom. So she is lopsided but they have been that way for ages and no sign of anymore! Very strange. She has started chewing me when feeding which HURTS. She thinks it's hilarious Hmm

bigbang · 02/11/2010 22:28

Berry I think hairdressing would be a great occupation. I had a go at doing ds's hair once and it was awful! A skill I will never master, I don't know how you do it so it looks neat. Ds looked like a monk with a bowl cut and then a scarecrow when I tried to 'tidy it up'.

Ladyem · 03/11/2010 09:04

The nearest I get to hairdressing is giving DH a go over with the clippers on a number 2 setting every few weeks!! Grin I don't think it's a silly occupation at all! A good hairdresser is worth their weight in gold! If mine ever moves I don't know what I'll do!! Grin

J has only got 6 teeth so far! Thought another was on it's way last week, but nothing so far. They slept a bit longer this morning, so a good start to the day!

Ouch to the chewing while feeding! I'm really glad that neither of mine did this.

Oh yeah, just looked at the tourism website for the scillies and had a "I ain't gettin' on no plane, crazy fool!" moment when I saw that skybus thingy!! Grin

I don't mind if we bring the little ones on the meet up as it would be nice to meet them all. But on the other hand I could use some child-free time as I never get any!

BerryLellow · 03/11/2010 12:13

I was thinking about the meet up and there's pros and cons either way.

Part of me thinks it would be nice for us all to meet each other without distraction of little ones, so we get to be ourselves and maybe even have a drink Shock

But then having the children with us might be a good ice breaker for those of us that are socially inept shy :o

ChutesTooNarrow · 03/11/2010 13:05

I think we should do two meet-ups! One with small children so we can coo over them, one without so we can have a drink.

I have a question on the hair front. About a week after Gabe was born I announced I wanted a haircut and I wanted my long hair cut to shoulder length. And everyone went 'NOoooooo, no drastic haircuts post baby, you are insane at the moment and your hair will reflect that' So I didn't have it cut. I still want it all chopped off, am I allowed to now? My hair just exists at the moment, its in a terrible state, lots has fallen out and I generally just scrap it back into a bun. Also if I turned up and said I want hair like Betty from Mad Men in season two but not pristine Betty but rather where she is drunk and disheveled will the hairdresser go Hmm? I need to take a screen shot of the hair I want I think.

OP posts:
BerryLellow · 03/11/2010 13:47

Take as much information as you can - can you link me a shot of drunk Betty hair?!

The mistake I have made after both boys were born was to have too much cut off. I really should know better too Hmm :o I need to be able to get my hair back out of my face and having it too short just ruins that (for me) My compromise is layered hair so it's got plenty of movement (and brings out the natural wave), I can still get it into a ponytail for those days when Mads wants to swing off it/I go swimming/pilates etc

That said, a drastic haircut can make you feel absolutely amazing and if you've been wanting it for a year now, you may well just be in your right mind :o

kveta · 03/11/2010 14:03

I got mine chopeed off a couple of weeks ago - wanted it done pre-wedding, and got the "NOOOOO!" reaction from mum people. Oli didn't recognise me afterwards, but is ok with it now :o my only problem is laziness - if I could be arsed to straighten it, it would look all right, but as it is, I tend to dry my hair whilst entertaining Oli, so it has a tendency to look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=farm1.static.flickr.com/9/15683804_8beb4dd73c.jpg&imgrefurl=coolmenshair.com/2007/10/phil-spector-afro-hair.html&usg=__ANEvpEENufFoaBQILLXCJwTzXA4=&h=500&w=386&sz=53&hl=en&start=0&sig2=sTiW9n6cRzbf4xHAtSsc2Q&zoom=1&tbnid=2MgwcvMNyS_TmM:&tbnh=174&tbnw=129&ei=PWvRTIPoFI6Vswb1i4WHCw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmad%2Bhair%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1693%26bih%3D865%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=449&vpy=102&dur=4021&hovh=256&hovw=197&tx=100&ty=168&oei=PWvRTIPoFI6Vswb1i4WHCw&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=37&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

I'm keen to meet other babies too, I spend little enough time with my own one as it is [bad mum emoticon]. oh well, it pays the bills...

BerryLellow · 03/11/2010 14:26

:o at that picture

ChutesTooNarrow · 03/11/2010 14:43

I can't find a decent picture of it. I'm really tempted to stick on the dvd and screen shot it. Basically it's just above shoulder length, and it's layered and choppy at the back. Will keep on looking for a picture as I need you to translate it into hairdresser language Berry.

OP posts:
BerryLellow · 03/11/2010 15:58

You've not done a bad job yourself :o You have to be strict with hairdressers though, we acn be a bit scissor happy when it comes to length!

peachygirl · 03/11/2010 20:30

Hi a quick pop in to mark my place, sorry I've not been around.
I'd be up for a meet, london / SE good or midlands too.
sorry I'll try to catch up another day

Ladyem · 04/11/2010 09:55

Chutes - go for it! I wanted to get mine cut for ages after having DD and one hairdresser refused to cut it as it was so long and she thought I'd regret it! I waited until she was about 11 months old and it had stopped falling out, then I went into a new hairdressers and said 'Do what ever you want!' She looked so happy and just chopped it all off. Best thing I did for my hair! And now whenever I talk about growing it for a change everyone shouts 'Nooooooooooo!' Grin Would love to have long swishy hair again, though, just for a bit!

On the twin thing, I have a friend who had twins when her DD1 was just 20 months old! She is one of those super-organised people, though that I would love to be! And she always looks glam. Envy

kveta · 05/11/2010 09:15

bigbang - oli is chewing mid-feed too. he's now got 6 teeth plus 2 on their way. I'm getting increasingly fed up with feeding him, so am thinking maybe it is time to stop. I'm planning to be down to 2 feeds a day by christmas anyway, he seems to be dropping his 1-2 daytime feeds quite happily.

I've got a day off today - took time off in lieu after working last sunday. so I'm on mumsnet, and have just been answering some emails for work Hmm am going to tidy the house, then amble into town for a coffee I think! Oli is at the childminders until 1, so I've got a wee breather. better get on so I can really enjoy my sit down later!!

Ladyem · 05/11/2010 10:34

Oooh, enjoy your morning, Kveta! Would kill for some child-free time at the minute. DD being a typical 3 year old and just does not stop! She's dropped her afternoon nap (I was so lucky that she still did this at her age!) just this last couple of weeks, so there really is no let up! Grin She's also just thrown juice all over the settee (luckily it's leather, so just had to wipe it down) and is now complaining that there is nothing to do! Luckily DH has Friday afternoons off, so I am going to retreat into the other room on the excuse of needing to study for a couple of hours peace and quiet - I hope! Grin

BerryLellow · 05/11/2010 20:51

hope you enjoyed your day kveta? And did you get some peace Ladyem?!

I've achieved nothing today. Zilch. DP and I took the boys up on the Carn to look at all the fireworks a little while ago. J was entranced...Mads a bit wtf? :o

peachygirl · 05/11/2010 21:07

Hi all I hope everyone is ok. I have sort of read the thread but please forgive me for not mentioning any specific issues.

Things are good here. Zoe is Ok, starting to teeth again, charging round the house climbing on small furniture and climbing the stairs!! we have got about 3-4 word sounding sounds Da da, Zazee (maisy the cat) and Maya, (DD1) often shouted from the bottom of the stairs! I have started to do a bit of signing with her, milk, cat and more and we shall see if she picks this up.

Personally I have started the process of upgrading my status as a Makaton tutor (the signing used on Something special)I am currently a local tutor and this will take me to regional tutor status. I have to attend courses (which have changed since I originally trained) and lead one and write a 2000 word essay. I'm very excited by it but am now so aware of what bad habits I have with my signing at work, in my defence it is hard to sign and then play the guitar at the same time!!!
So I am spending tuesday night in Leatherhead- so exotic!! on the first part of all this.

I have to admit that I haven't posted much as Dh has been having some mental health, (mainly stress and anxiety) problems which have been very difficult to cope with but he does seem to be getting better with counselling and Chinese medication. (don't post about this on FB please it's not common knowledge in my RL).

I'll try to be on a bit more...

BerryLellow · 06/11/2010 08:20

Sorry to hear you've been having a hard time peachy, sounds tough. Good luck with it all :)

I wonder if Chutes has been off getting her hair cut?

All hell broke loose at 5.30am this morning when Mads woke up wailing with his fist stuffed in his mouth. Couldn't find his dummy anywhere in his cot, nor a spare one anywhere in the house Hmm So the wailing escalated into a screaming paddy. Eventually his plug was located and put in but too late by then, so he's been awake since then

kveta · 08/11/2010 10:53

hi peachy, sorry to hear things haven't been great - hope the counselling is effective. feel free to rant and rave on here if it makes you feel better.

friday was a bit pointless in the end - I did the housework, went into town, but didn't have time for a sit down with a coffee, as I ended up on skype to my mum for most of the morning. Apparently she is likely to move in with my sister for a few weeks post birth to help her out as 'it's hard work with a newborn'. bearing in mind my sister a) is living with her in-laws, and b) when oli was born my mother's involvement was an afternoon where I cooked and made tea for her whilst she cuddled him, I'm not hugely impressed. I'm biting my tongue for now though, as we may need her help when number 2 is on its way.

Oli loved the fireworks - we ended up stood on our front door step watching the neighbour's display over the rooftops :o free and local! He's a right mess at the moment - he's got a bruised cheek from flinging himself on the floor at the childminder's house (I saw him do it when she said no to him!), he's got an enormous bruised lump on his forehed from flinging himself at the banister on the stairs, and he's got conjunctivitis so is oozing pus from his eyes. Oh,and he's got yet another bloody cold, so is very snotty. He looks delightful. luckily the conjunctivitis is clearing up, and the nursery aren't bothered by it. However, he was up all night for the past 3 nights, so I am sitting at my desk half asleep mainlining caffiene.

dummy disappearance is such a pain in our hose barry that we keep a spare in the bedroom for those middle of the night yells when he's mid-feed, bites me, I remove him, and a dummy MUST be found.

BerryLellow · 08/11/2010 11:28

Ouch at the biting - I'm not feeding anymore, gave up just before he was 13mo but he was starting to do that to me. Along with a twist of the head to look at something, as if he was determined to wrench my nipple off completely. A large part of me really misses the BFing, but I'm also a lot more sane now. Well, a bit.

What is it with these boys and the flinging themselves?! Mads is constantly throwing himself at life, the sofa, the dog, the floor. J was just not this busy . I took both of them to a soft play place on Saturday morning so they could commando themselves around with gay abandon before the place got too busy. Was quite nice and quiet so they had a lovely play together, Mads valiantly tried to follow J everywhere but his legs just weren't quite long enough at times :)

So kveta - baby number 2 is popping up in conversation quite a bit, is there something you'd like to tell us?! Wink

BerryLellow · 08/11/2010 11:29

disclamier? am I french?

kveta · 08/11/2010 11:35

ha ha, I wish - DH and I are getting very broody just now as yet another friend has had a baby (and they all keep sending us photos of newborns, the bastards!) - we keep on thinking 'maybe we should try' and then Oli does something totally horrendous and we go 'not yet'

got to move house and get a few months of the mortgage paid before even trying. but it never hurts to plan ahead!!
