Hello! How is everyone? Dd is finally sleeping in her own bed - yay!

Don't worry, northstar, it happens to everyone. In fact, I don't know anybody who's baby hasn't wriggled off something or tripped down some stairs.
They are getting so strong now aren't they?

Hello girls - welcome kateandfelicity!
We have all been fluey lately so haven't been online much.

Ds' pre-school haven't said anything else but I phoned the hospital to get his hearing test appointment this morning and was told it'll be the end of February! I think that's cr@p personally and told them so. Got them back to the end of Jan eventually...

I don't know how much dd weighs but she has got thunder thighs and a "champion dart player's belly" apparently according to her grandad :-)) Bless her.

Can you believe that they are almost 6 months old already?! Dd is looking less and less like a baby now that she is on the move and eating everything in sight.

hi everyone, hope all is well.

don't get alot of time on here anymore as to much college work to do and sorting out ds in the evening but never mind.

ds is 5 mths and 2 wks old now. he is eating well and weighs 17lb approx i don't know if thats big or not but he seems ok to me, he's quite thin but very long.

uwila · 17/11/2005 17:25

Hi everyone. So I'm just wondering about development milestones so far. Does everyone's baby roll over? Have teeth?

Mine does neither of the above. But he eats what he's given and sleeps through the night, so I'm certainly not complaining.

Just wondering where others are now.

Logic, so did you get that "I'm not deaf I'm ignoring you." t-shirt?

logic · 17/11/2005 18:53

Hi Uwila,

Rolling, yes and nearly sitting up alone but no sign of any teeth. Starting to say "egg" a lot which I remember ds doing too. Dd is much chunkier than he was though so I am expecting her gross motor movements to be earlier. She is now passing a balloon on a string from hand to hand and pinching ds' cars. He isn't massively impressed.

Haven't got that t-shirt printed up yet though :-))

What is everyone getting their little ones for Christmas? I need some ideas. All I've got dd so far is a baby walker.

Hello ladies. Long time no speak.
Myermay hope all goes well for you today.
dd2 is doing fine - a total nutcase. With dd1 I was desperate for her to walk, but that's a terrifying prospect with this one - she spends most of her day 'casing the joint' so we reckon we're in for big trouble. She's been on solids for a few weeks now, sits ramrod straight, sucks her toes and does a sort of crab walk on her back with the odd wee roll. No teeth. Said 'mum'yesterday but reckon that was a fluke.
She started waking in the night again a few days ago but the introduction of breakfast seems to have sorted that for the moment. Was having trouble settling her at 7 too, but a very long Mozart cd seems to have helped.
Her favourite 'toy' is an entertainer - like a baby walker with no wheels which she rocks dementedly and if it's near anything she tries to hoist herself up and out of it.
Don't know about christmas presents yet - probably things that she can 'manipulate' in some way - reckon she's a wee engineer.
Hope everyone is well.

cab · 18/11/2005 10:32

Meant to ask is anyone going to baby signing classes or used them before?

matthewsmummy · 18/11/2005 12:08

hi all, hope everyones ok.

ive got a few things for ds for x-mas, ive got him a walker, and a fisher price learning experience door way, and a ride on toy with parent handle.

ds is 5 1/2 months now and is eating well, has just starting rolling over and sits well when supported but still abit off balance to manage it himself yet. no teeth yet although id wish they'd hurry up. chats away all the time mostly to his dummy! he takes it out his mouth and looks at it and chats to it its very funny to watch. hes a very happy baby, always smiling and he's got the most cute little giggle ive ever heard.

but we had a scare this morning. ds went to bed fine last night at about 10pm and then at 3am this morning he woke up screaming and wouldn't stop no matter what i done (which isn't like him at all) i gave him gripe water coz that normally works, but no so i gave him some calpol but that just came straight back up, the screamimg went on till 7am this morning when i phoned the emergency helpline and told them what he's been like and she said if his scream is really high pitched and hes arching his back and tiltling his neck back (which he was) to take him to a+e, so off we went, he finally fell asleep in the car and when he was being seen by the nurse he done 2 really loud burps and 3 huge bottom burps and he was absolutley fine after that. so that must have been some bad trapped wind. i think they were worried about menigitis at one stage but he's fine now and sleeping like a baby. (shame he never last night coz im exhausted) but they do like to keep us on our toes don't they bless them.

well im off to tidy up and try and keep myself awake. take care everyone xxx

LittleB · 18/11/2005 15:43

That sounds scary, matthewsmummy, I'm glad he's fine now. dd was doing really well at sleeping but has been a bit unsettled lately as she's got a horrible cold, poor thing, we didn't move her into her own room yet either, we'll wait until she's over her cold. She can roll onto her front but then gets stuck! She can almost sit up too, she eats almost everything, except papaya, which after lots of grumbling came right back up again - all over daddy! Its sounds like she's saying mum when she's upset, but I think thats the way she cries, she does make lots of noises though and has just learnt to roll her r's and gargle! She also squeals really loudly when she's excited, we had everyone staring at us when we were swimmming the other day as she was squealing so much, very embarressing! She had her first chicken today (as she's over 6 months now) and loved it. But no sign of any teeth yet. I can't believe how quickly they grow, the last 6 months has flown by. We're getting her a big playmat and probably a playpen for christmas (my mum has got her the baby walker) aswell as lots of little things.

logic · 18/11/2005 21:10

myermay, you're right , I feel like there's less pressure to get to the next milestone too. If I am being totally honest, I think I have the instinct to be a pushy mum but I try and squash it as much as possible. I don't want my kids to have pressure on them like that. Saw a wifeswap the other day and one of the families was putting their three kids (all young primary age) into extra maths classes after school EVERY DAY! omg.

I really really hope that your ds is ok. hugs Does he notice having the helmet on? Can you cover it with a hat to go out? Not that most people would care but it makes life easier...

oh matthewsmummmy, glad it was just wind. It is frightening isn't it and wind in babies can be absolutely horrendous. You'd swear that there was something seriously wrong with them and then they burp and they are fine again.

Hi all, I'm back! Well the holiday was brilliant and all of our worrying was wasted! DD was brilliant on the plane both on take off and landing and seem to see it more of an adventure! DH & I were more stressed than she was. The 1st night was a stress for us as she was a little cranky but I think she may have though " oh well I will be back in my own bed etc tonight" but as we got her showered and into her jim jams she must have realised that "this" was now her bed for the week..Bless...She settled really well and it sounds mad but she seems to have come on so so so much in just a week. Maybe its due to have dh & I's attention 24/7 for a week or the fresh air or the sunshine but she is an even happier baby than before & I never thought that possible. She also loved the pool and basically spending time with us. She is now rolling onto her tummy constantly..in fact once home at the weekend is been stressing me out as she rolls onto her tummy and then cries aftre a bit, i put her onto her back and she rolls over again..the process repeats itself until I decide to stay put! Anyone else having the same experience.?? I don't know whether to leave her or not..??

We got back he end of last week and I have only just found time to sit still for a hour or so! Washing and cleaning, cleaning and washing...The routine for dd has kept the same but sadly mine has gone awol!!!!

Anyway dd sounds as though she is coming along the same as everyone else's ds or dd..she was 17lb 1oz 3 weeks ago and now has both bottom teeth. She is a chatterbox (like her mother ) and like your ds mm she spends hours taking to her dummy or her "cusky" doll!!! So cute!!

Logic I have also started to by dd's christmas pressies. I have got her a fisher price car/walker from ELC and loads of noisey bright toys. Can't help myself really!!

BTW before we went on hol I saw my gp about my pnd. She says it's back and has prescribed me ad's...advised to start taking them once back from my hols and I am trying to find courage to start them...at least I am not going mad... The hol helped slightly but mainly allowed dh to get the full picture of how I am feeling. I hate putting my problems onto him when he has his own but I suppose thats whats being married etc is all about.

Lastly about going back to work...I am planning on being a sahm. I have till next Feb to decide as work will keep my job open till then. Anyone else going to be a sahm..??

Hope everyone else is ok..xx

hi, hope everyone's babies are well. ds has been really poorly, bad cold which led to an ear infection. doc gave him antibiotics. he's on the mend now which is a good job as i picked up his glasses this morning. have posted a pic in member profiles for you all to see. they seem to be spending more time in his mouth being chewed on then on his face though

logic · 21/11/2005 15:18

myermay: wow at climbing into the loft :-)) They age you so much kids don't they?

Saw the paediatrician today for dd. He doesn't know why she needs the colief. Not a clue, she seems healthy. Suggested we cut down her colief slowly and give her less milk and more food. Bit of a wasted trip really.

Glad you had a lovely holiday, shhhh. Why is there always 10 times as much washing to do afterwards than the amount of clothes that you took? Drives me mad. The ADs take a while to work so you need to stay positive in the meantime! They do work though...

I've been toys r us shopping for xmas. The kids are getting way too much stuff but never mind. Ds keeps saying 'if I'm a good boy then father christmas will bring me more track won't he?'. Not mercenary at all.

Aww lucykate, just had a look at your ds, he looks sooo cute with his glasses!

On the development front here, DS2 has been rolling over from being 16 weeks old and can sometimes manage to roll back onto his stomach - the other times he just cries in sheer frustration! He can't quite sit up on his own yet, I have to hold him otherwise he just topples sideways, bless him! No teeth here yet but his gums have been rock hard for months and he has to wear a bib constantly which I hate - but better that than a rash from being wet.

Weaning - total nightmare! He doesn't really like much in the way of savoury but seems to love fruit. I've tried jars and tins and homemade but nothing seems to do the trick. I have noticed that he takes solids better for DH than for me, maybe he thinks that I'm only there for the milk lol. Could be that DH sort of tricks him ie spoonful of savoury dipped into the sweet! It still doesn't seem to work for me though!

We are going to Newcastle shopping next week, DH is taking a day off work. We have a few bits for DS1, including his own PC! but we haven't bought anything for DS2 yet. We've been trying to get a roll around dinosaur for him but haven't had any luck yet.

Glad you had a good holiday Shhh, I could do with one aswell!

Myermay don't listen to any comments about DS's helmet, it will just make him all the more special and like you say it's only a temporary measure.

Yes I agree with kids adding years onto you, I blame them for my one grey hair

Maddison · 21/11/2005 21:15

Oh and as for the amount kids get for Christmas, yes you end up getting a lot more that you planned on getting but hey, they're only kids once sometimes children deserve to be spoilt!

uwila · 28/11/2005 13:30

Hi everyone. Yippee!!! We have a tooth. Sharp little thing.

Someone asked about going back to work. I've been back ful time since DS was 3 months old. Just slowly carving my way through my mountain of debt. I like being back actually. I require adult conversation and I find it here.

My top tip for returning to work is to bring a picture of the baby, but keep it in a drawer. That way you can look at it when you want to but he/she won't be staring you in the face all day making you feel guilty.

LittleB · 29/11/2005 19:40

Lucykate can you tell me how to view your ds I'd love to see him with his cute glasses on!
Have also bought too many things for dd for Christmas, but I'm sure she'll have fun!
Thanks for th tip about photos in the drawer Uwilla, I'm back at work next week, only working a few days before Christmas, then 3 days a week from Jan (although about 1 day will be working from home or evenings). I know I'm going to find it hard and miss her loads at first, but I do know I'll enjoy the change of scene and adult conversation once I get used to being apart from dd. She's going to be looked after by family so luckily I know she's in good hands.
What does everyones babies like to eat, anyone tried finger food yet? I tried a bit of toast and she just sucked it then spat it out! Her favourites are banana, baby porridge with apple/pear puree, chicken stew, sweet potatoe and yoghurts.

shhhh · 29/11/2005 21:13

littleb, took me ages to find menbers profiles but here you go: Go to the top of this page, by topics, then in the "mumsnet stuff" area select members profile. These are all pixs of mumsnets memebrs and families etc. Only just found this myself!!!

Good luck with work when you start back. I'm sure your dd will be fine.

About dd's fave foods. She loves banana and on sunday I discovered she loves sprouts!!! Eeuugghhh!! Takes after dh with that one!
She also loves sweet potato and recently I have been giving her spag bol (home made). Most of her foods have some melted cheese in which she also loves. Adds a bit of taste to it!!!
Tonight I tried her on sausage as a finger food, removed the skin but she loved the meat part. Not sure if this is ok for babies but it's not something I will feed often and she only had about half a spoon full.

Bless, it's so cute watching her chew her food!!!!

LittleB · 30/11/2005 14:45

Thanks shhhh. lucykate, he looks very cute, is he getting used to them yet or does he just try and chew them!
I tried dd with sausage and sprouts today too, although i pureed them and added mashed potatoe, she did enjoy it! They do look very sweet when they chew and dd keeps giving me big grins with mouthfuls of food, not so cute!

matthewsmummy · 30/11/2005 15:47

hi all, hope everyone is well. thanx for everyones replys about matthew.

well it turned out the ds had an ear infevtion aswell after the doctors saying that they were fine 3 times, but once stuff starting leaking out they took notice and gave him antibiotics, so he's getting better now and has finally returned to his own bed and starting sleeping through the night again

glad you had a lovely holiday shhhh, i could do with one of those but thats not gonna happen so never mind. but glad you enjoyed yourself.

good luck all those going back to work, ive been back at college full time since ds was 3 1/2 months old. i did miss him but he's well looked after at nursery and seems to love it, so now im used to not being with him its fine and having adult converstion is a god send.

ds can roll on to his front, but gets very frustrated coz he can't go any where, and usually just puts his head down and cries or rolls himself back over to his back.
he can sit up in a ring or supported by someone, but can't quiet manage it on his own coz he sometimes loses his balance and falls over but he's getting there.

he hasn't got any teeth yet but they keep threatning to come through but never do. wish they'd hurry up.

well the eating was going really well, but since he's been ill he won't eat anything a dinner time (approx 5pm) he just whinges and won't eat anything but a yoghurt and sometimes won't even eat that, and he used eat his vegetables and really like them but no he won't eat any of them. don't really know what to do, i think its coz he's tired aswell but he won't sleep much during the day and always wants to sleep when we get home and usually sleeps for hours. and then doesn't go to bed till 11pm most nights. any one else having these troubles or have any advise.

thanx everyone, take care

LittleB · 01/12/2005 11:14

Hi Matthewsmummy, dd had a horrible cold and cough and went off alot of her food, she stopped eating at tea time and ate less at lunch time, alhough she was still happy to eat breakfast, but she had more milk instead. I've reintrouced these meals again by offering her a little of her favourite things and she's eating better again. She sometimes wouldn't eat much of her vegetables but would eat her yoghurt too, I think they want comfort food like we do when they're ill. I didn't worry too much, she's getting back into food again now. I don't know what you can do about sleeping, dd has been waking during the night more since she's been ill, but is gradually getting better again. I expect he'll gradually get back to his routine. Sorry to hear about his ears, but I'm glad they are getting better now. It's awful that they took so long to give him antibiotics, poor babe.

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 02/12/2005 18:30

hope all is well now mm. Thought I would make my "name" much more christmassy..!! Hope its worked! Well I have to do something to keep me occupied ;0).
