Hello! How is everyone? Dd is finally sleeping in her own bed - yay!

Don't worry, northstar, it happens to everyone. In fact, I don't know anybody who's baby hasn't wriggled off something or tripped down some stairs.
They are getting so strong now aren't they?

Hiya everyone. It's almost Christmas!!!!

Can't wait for DD (2 1/2) to see her presents as this is the first year she actually comprehends the concept of Santa bringing her presents. So much fun!

I was just reading a thread about the forward facing car seats and how soon is too siin. Has anyone transferred to the next car seat yet. My lovely DS is rather slow on sitting up so we are not quite ready but he's 19 pounds so it isn't far away. As soo as he sits up I'm giving that infant car seat away! And I won't miss tripping over the bloody thing in my hallway.

logic · 20/12/2005 20:26

hi uwila, dd is only about 17lbs I think but I'm sure it won't be too long before she moves up a seat. I think the rule of thumb we used last time is can they sit up for half an hour unaided. Dd is not sitting up on her own yet either. When she is ready, we'll get a new multi group seat for ds and she can have his hand-me-down one. I will not be sad to see the back of the group 0 seat either, it's a pain. For the Christening though, we shifted all the buggies and stuff into the garage and the house looks really uncluttered now :-))

Hi Everyone. I've just discovered you guys and you all sound great. So supportive etc.... I have a ds of 3+1/2 and a dd born 20th May. Do you mind if I join in?

uwilalalalalala · 20/12/2005 21:22

Of course you can join in! Welcome I have a DD (3 in March) and DS born 19 May -- beat you by one day.

Where are you? Do you work? Are you new to mumsnet... WARNING... it's terribly addictive.

Tiggerish · 20/12/2005 21:26

We moved to N Yorkshire in september - no family or contacts for miles around. Not easy. I only discovered MN a couple of days ago and am already hooked!
I'm going back to work 2 days from mid-jan. dd will be going to same nursery as ds.

uwilalalalalala · 20/12/2005 21:30

Oh, we love Yorshire (in the summer). What do you do for work?

I went back quite soon (after 3 months). I work in the oil industry in London (Brentford actually).

Tiggerish · 20/12/2005 21:33

I'm a teacher - will be doing supply until September then hopefully a "proper" job. I haven't had one of those since ds arrived!

Maddison · 21/12/2005 23:57

Hi everybody and welcome to Tiggerish

DS2 is now 30 weeks (I think ) and weighs 23lbs - which is an absolute killer if I have to carry him any distance lol. He can't sit up alone yet - well almost can but topples sideways after a while. We had to move on to the next stage car seat as DS2 was too long and heavy for his rear facing car seat. The way we understood they are to move on when they are either 9kg or 9 months, whichever comes first (I still don't understand where their age comes into it on that basis - you could have a petite 9 month old like my niece who still weighs less than 17 lbs).

DS2 has also started doing the 'indian' noises which is so cute and is still dribbling for England - no teeth yet, we can see where they are iykwim but they have not cut through yet.

Glad the christening went well logic, ours did too, we seemed able to fit more people in our house than I thought! We also had loads of cake and beer left - I even took some to school for DS1's teacher and TA (I did warn them that FIL goes overboard with the alcohol when cake baking )

DS1 is also really excited about Christmas - he's 4, so you can imagine the excitement in our house, and you'd never think I'm 27, I feel more like DS1 does!!. I totally agree with what domeone else said about their faces lighting up on Christmas morning. The only time that compares is when DS1 saw DS2 for the first time in hospital. I will never forget that image for as long as I live.

God I'm getting a lump in my throat now (but it's a happy one )

Shhhh, how are you feeling today? Happier I hope

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 22/12/2005 17:31

Hi all, thanks logic and maddison for your concerns. Well since starting the ad's I have started to feel heaps better...I can now see the light at the end of that tunnel..!

Had a scare on Tuesday though...spent 5 hours in A&E as dd had a temp of 39.9 degrees ...!!! No reason found but think dd may have a virus. She has since started with the mother of all colds...runny nose..cough..off fod etc ..Poor little thing . Hopefully she should be right for santa though (maddison im 26 and excited too ..) BUT today I have started with a sorethroat..Arrggghhh..!

Hope everyone else is ok.

BTW I am still using the carry car seat..keep forgetting about looking at forward facing car seats. Won't get rid of the carry car seat as you never know .
xx

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 22/12/2005 17:42

OOPPSS. A welcome to Tiggerish..! We are a lovely bunch here .

ABow · 22/12/2005 18:09

Hi everyone. So how do you do this christmas name thing then? I was gonna be APretty Christmas Bow but couldn't figure it out and only have about 2 minutes!

Does anyone know how Brighteyes is?

Sorry not been in touch for a while. Missed you all loads! I've been back to work fulltime for 7 weeks and by goodness it has been a rough 7 weeks. Dd was a perfect sleeper and stopped just as I went back to work. It came to a head last weekend when she was waking every 40 minutes through the night. Got a new very good Hv who said fed her more carbohydrates especially fromage frais, and it worked a dream!
Work has been bedlam and I have decided I'm leaving. This contract finishes end of Sept and between now and then I'm going to look for something new. Time to move on.

Dh is a stay at home dad and despite being on crutches permanently has really got the whole thing sussed. She looks to him for everything and last weekend she actually said 'daddy' (not dada!). Whether she meant it is something else.

Anyway better dash. Brother in Law coming tomorrow, no decorations up yet and house is a disgrace!!

Merry Christams Everyone and Fantastic New Year

uwilalalalalala · 22/12/2005 18:55

ABow, just go to your memberprofile and type in a new id.

Your HV told you to feed the baby framage frais (which I'm sorry to be rude but in my view is crap junk food... I like yogurt but fromage fais is banned from my childrens' diets). If baby needs more carbs (and since when are HV's trained dieticians?????) wouldn't it be better to helthful ones, say more baby porridge or more fruit.

I'm sorry for the rant. If it has worked for you it probably is fine. But I'm just a bit of a freak about nutrition (just ask my nanny or my DH).

cab · 23/12/2005 00:06

Just a quick note to wish you all (especially Brighteyes) and our May babies a happy Christmas!!!

Tiggerish · 23/12/2005 19:55

Hi everyone and thanks for the welcomes. I've been reading back a bit and it's really reassuring to hear you've been having similar problems to me with the food/milk balance. dd will only take about 12oz of milk a day now but eats loads. How much should they be having? does anyone know? Also, she has no sign of any teeth yet - not even a hint. Is anyone else still waiting?
Merry Christmas to you all!

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 23/12/2005 21:50

Abow we are feeding dd petit filous (sp..?) tbh these satisfy her and we were advised to give them as an extra for formula as dd doesn't seem to have the recommended amount. Not sure if these are yoghurts or fromage frais..? If they work though do it..!

I hope work works out for you. I haven't heard from brighteyes either..will check other posts as it's quite concerning.

Tiggerish...dd is around 32 weeks (8mth) and the hv advised me she should be having around a pint of milk a day..approx 20 ozs. Like I said above if baby is not having this amount try and substitute dairy with yoghurts or cheese etc...cows milk can be given to mix foods such as potatoes etc.

Happy christmas to everyone and new year if I don't manage to get onto mn. xx

logic · 23/12/2005 22:13

Welcome Tiggerish!

Dd has just started to put everything in her mouth. Poor ds has started to look a bit paranoid, two days in a row she's taken food off his plate. She's already chewed two cardboard tree ornaments too. Not much in the way of nutrition there. Anyone else's baby doing the same sort of stuff? It's funny how less concerned you get with a second child too.

OP posts:
SHHHHsantaiscoming · 23/12/2005 22:55

logic dd is exactly the same!!!! within seconds of my back being turned she has something in her mouth ...found her under the tree last week complete with chocolate in her hand ...

Maddison · 23/12/2005 23:44

Yep, everything is going in DS2's mouth too! I can't remember if I told you earlier (and at this time of night I'm too lazy to look ) DS2 was given a present from Santa at his first ever Christmas party and chewed the wrapping paper. I was sure he hadn't swallowed any until he vomited it back up!

In the last few days he has taken his solids really well compared to normal ie getting some in his mouth then blowing raspberries to get it back out!

Still no teeth poking through yet though he seems to be coping well with it. Apart from enough dribble for England and red cheeks he's fine.

Shhhh - if you come on MN on Christmas day I reckon you should change your name to YaySantasBeen!!

If I don't get on MN before I hope you all have a fabulous first Christmas with your babies and a happy and healthy New Year

uwilalalalalala · 24/12/2005 12:29

Hello everyone, and a very Merry Christmas if I don't get on again before he end of tomorrow.

Luck for me DS isn't rolling yet (bit of a lsacker in that department) so he can't get under the Christmas tree.

I don't count the amount of formula that he has. But if his popo gets too solid or he seems constipated then I try to get him to drink more, maybe a bit of juice. He likes to eat most things and he fat and happy so I don't worry. DD on the other hand never wnted to eat anything and I used to worry a lot.

We have 2 teeth, and I would say that red cheeks and dribble are a sure sign of a tooth for Crimbo.

Petit Filous is framage frais. I'm glad it works for you guys. Don't listen to me. I'm a bit of a freak about nutrition.

Brighteyes, if you are reading this, we are thinking of you. Drop in sometime if you can and let us know how you are.

Hi everyone hope you all had a lovely day yesterday with your babies

We are totally jinxed at Christmas, something always goes wrong (even got raided by the police 3 times a few years ago - can laugh about it now!) but the only thing that went wrong this year was the element in the oven blew at 8pm on Christmas Eve!! Luckily the In-Laws saved the day and immediately invited us to their house for Christmas lunch which was great - they truly are lovely people

Both DS's were spoilt rotten as usual - DS1 will be 5 next month and ran into the lounge, saw all the pressies and started jumping up and down with his arms in the air shouting 'he's been, he's been'!!! We didn't think it fair on DS1 to be made to wait for Bailey to open his presents so he opened his first, absolutely squealed with delight when he saw his Roboraptor hidden under more presents while Bailey looked on and soaked up every second of it!! Although baileys presents seem to occupy DS1 more lol. We now have loads of toys and games everywhere with nowhere to put them, it will probably stay this way for a copule of weeks then we'll have the same again for DS1's birthday!!

Anyway, enough rambling from me - how did your Christmases go? And Happy New Year to everyone and their babies

Maddison · 26/12/2005 23:21

Oh and forgot to add DS2 said 'mam' yesterday!!! So all day today he's been saying 'mamamamamamam'!!!

LittleHollyBerry · 27/12/2005 11:55

We had a lovely Christmas too. Dd has been spoilt rotten with clothes and toys from everyone, and has been playing with them loads and the paper. She got her first tooth on Christmas eve, just in time to chew some turkey! We're looking at forward facing car seats. Not sure when she should change either, HV said at 19lbs, car seat says 13kg, she can sit up but only for a few minutes before she topples, will probably get one that can recline though. Halfords have a sale on now so we're off to have a look.
Uwila can you let me know why fromage frais isn't as good as yoghurt, whats the difference?dd has both.
Its lovely to have time to spend with dd and dp too. dd says mama, and is just started sayings 'd' so we're encouraging her to say dada. She's also started shaking her head and waving, but only copying us and only when she's in the right mood, its soooo cute! Hope everyone else had good christmas' too and Happy New Year.

babiesrcool · 27/12/2005 11:55

Hello, this is the first time I have been on this thread, I'm new to mumsnet and have got addicted very quickly. Had a wonderful first Christmas, next big one first birthday!!!

Tiggerish · 27/12/2005 13:38

Hi everyone. We all had a great day but dd was distinctly unimpressed by everything. She did eat her sprouts though - more than I can say for dh and ds!
ds was thrilled with his power ranger outfit and even went to bed wearing the helmet!
Was looking at car seats in mothercare yesterday. The assistant said that for the next stage the babies need to be either 9 months old or 9kg, and be able to sit unaided for half an hour. ds isn't quite there yet but it won't be long. She looks so cramped in the old one.
