Hello! How is everyone? Dd is finally sleeping in her own bed - yay!

Don't worry, northstar, it happens to everyone. In fact, I don't know anybody who's baby hasn't wriggled off something or tripped down some stairs.
They are getting so strong now aren't they?

Wow, I didn't realise I was such a thread killer

I have got too used to having unbroken nights sleep now - Bailey has been waking once a night for the past 4 nights - I think he's definitely teething so I'm back to being bleary eyed again!! He's also trying to sit up on his own in his bouncy chair - so he's definitely not a little baby anymore I've also been looking through the old ante-natal threads and I'm quite sad that I may never be on one of those again, even though I've got red bloodshot eyes....

logic · 06/10/2005 08:55

Hi maddison. I keep seeing maternity clothes in shops and jumping up and down with glee that I will never have to wear them again.

Taking dd for her 4 month jabs today (a month late) so I hope that she doesn't get a reaction...

northstar · 06/10/2005 09:55

Logic, I am also seeing maternity wear everywhere at the moment and it seems to be very stylish and modern - nothing like the stuff on offer this time last year!
Can't get dd out of waking at 3.30am for a 7oz bottle - should i try or just go with it for now? She sleeps 7.30pm to 7.30am apart from that.

matthewsmummy · 06/10/2005 10:54

hi everyone

glad to hear your getting more sleep logic and glad dd's eyes are ok.

northstar, is your dd on solids yet, if not then given her some at her last feed may help, but if she already is then i don't know sorry. maybe just go with it for a while coz they usally get theirselves out of these things in time.

im happy to say that ive seen lovely maternity clothes and i haven't got any desire to be in them what so ever.

dd is definatly growing up fast, he doesn't seem to want to lie down any more and always tries to pull himself up or lift his head forward to sit up and hes only 16wks. he has also started laughing (well trying to) his little giggle is so cute, all he seems to do is scream at the moment i think he likes to hear himself, and get attention. and his mission in life at the moment seems to be to get his feet in his mouth, as soon as your lay him down up come the feet and he grabs them straight away.

im gonna start him on some baby rice on friday, when he will be 4 mths excatly (as my hv told me not to give him any till at least then) he is starting to look for more than just milk and seems very interested in any thing were eating. which i know is one of the signs hes ready. hope it goes well coz not really sure how to start.

he seems to really like nursery, they always say he's been very good, and he's the youngest they have so the all coo over him and he gets lots of cuddles which im sure he loves. im glad he seems happy though otherwise id just be worrying all day and prob not get any work done.

well thats it from me i think, can't think of any thing else to say apart from take care all and hope all babes ar doing well

logic · 06/10/2005 13:39

Maybe she's going through a growth spurt, northstar...

shhhh · 06/10/2005 14:52

Northstar sorry I can't help you..I need advice myself on babies waking....DD seems to be going to bed later & later (usually 8-9pm) and dh & I are going to try earlier tonight as we need time together as well. But the main problem is the fact that dd is now in the routine of waking at 5.30-6am...She wakes VVVVVVVVVVVV Happy which is lovely but not when my body is saying it wants another 1-2 hours sleep! She has been on solids now for the last week, she has x2 meals and next week I will up it to 3...Also if we start putting her to bed earlier ie 7/8pm will she then wake even earlier.????Anyone got any advice as to why she is waking earlier and how we can stop it or should we leave her in this routine..???

Otherwise dd is doing really well. I am now christmas pressie buying . I love it !!! Santa is going to get stuck up our chimney this year &

I have also noticed the vast selection of maternity clothes..I agree, there was nothing like this when we were expecting! Even boots does a maternity range now!! Oh well maybe I will have to have another baby to take advantage of the lovely clothes .BTW maddison..are you not having any more..?? Maybe if I had one already I would probably think the same..!!!

LittleB · 06/10/2005 15:04

No, definitely don't want to wear maternity clothes. dd also wakes up very happy at 5-6 and don't know what to do either shhh, she does go to bed at 7 though. We've just started her on solids, just baby rice at lunchtime at the moment, other than gagging the first time she had it she seems to like it! I'm having alot of trouble with one of my dogs at the moment and I'm not sure what to do, I've posted all he details on the pets section, any advice would be helpful!

shhhh · 06/10/2005 21:37

littleb, sounds as though we are not the only ones with an early riser!! I will let you know if we get any positive advice. I wil check out your thread, not sure if I can help you though !!!
Hope everyone else is ok and not to tired! DH & I should really be in bed but PIL have just left and we haven't had anytime alone today! Noone seems to realise that we need time together as a family and as parents!!

Maddison · 11/10/2005 10:04

Morning all!

Shhh - I don't know if we are going to have anymore but if we do we're not leaving it another 4 years, I couldn't go through the behavioural changes again like we have with DS1. Poor mite has a lot on his plate at the mo.

We have got DS2 one of those bouncy things which hang from the doorway and he loves it. He happily spends ages in it blowing raspberries, which is his new trick! DS1 had one of these aswell and I believe this is one of the reasons he was so quick on his feet - maybe DS2 will be the same - but knowing how different they have been so far I'm not counting on it!!

Hope all are well xx

matthewsmummy · 11/10/2005 18:06

hi all, hope everyone is ok and getting lots of sleep. i'm not!

maddison- how old is your ds2 now? i want to get matthew one of them bouncy things but wasn't sure what age they had to be. i heard that they should be sitting before they go in one of them. i think he will love it too, his legs are alwyas on the go even when hes just lying down so maybe that would give him something to do with them.

Maddison · 12/10/2005 10:03

DS2 is now 21 weeks and we got it a few weeks ago from Tesco, I think it was about £20. I'm sure it said on the box that babies have to be able to support their heads to be able to use it. HTH

I had him weighed yesterday and he's a whopping 20 lb!! The Health Visitor was a little concerned as he is now on the final centile line, she is going to get some advice on weaning him and call me in the week!!!

shhhh · 12/10/2005 10:45

maddison, we also got dd one of those door bouncers. TBH we got it at 12 weeks (as advised on the box) but she couldn't really support herself. She now has a lot more control over her head so I think I will start to use it again.
We also ordered a m&p high chair on mon. DD is doing well at weaning so I though it may be an idea to now move her into her own chair...I have tried to feed her while in her bumbo(box suggests it) but it's hard work!!! More food ends up over me than in dd's tummy !! LOL.!!
Is this how it will be when she is in her high chair or will it be easier..??? I find it so much easier to feed her while she in in my arm in the "feeding" position as I am able to control the food and try and minimise her arms movement...Am I doing wrong or should I let her do what she wants..? Trouble is if I let her do what she wants she usually has the spoon right down her throat (while I am still holding it ..what a grip) and her hands and bib etc are all in her mouth...Other than that she squeals for more !! It's been 2 weeks now so I think I will try and introduce fruit.

Maddison your ds2 is doing well by the sounds of it. DD was weighed last week, she is just over 5 months and weighs 15lb 13ozs. She seems to be getting long as well.

Hope everyone else is well.xx

logic · 12/10/2005 11:20

We've got a door bouncer and we've tried it once and dd seemed to like it. We also sit her in the high chair at the dinner table but she's a tiny bit small for it. I've started bathing her in a bath seat now because she's far too heavy to hold...

matthewsmummy · 12/10/2005 11:52

thanx maddison, ds is 17 weeks now so i will give it ago i think, he has quite good head control so i think he'll be alright. and i think he'll love it.

Maddison · 12/10/2005 14:54

Well with DS1 his door bouncer was a god send, I think it burned off some energy , so much so that we just had to get DS2 one aswell!!

shhhh · 12/10/2005 16:55

well dd's high chair came today and it brilliant from what I have seen of it so far. I have just given dd her first feed in it...Fod was everywhere! Does this change..? DD is eating what I am spooning into her mouth but inbetween she is also putting her bib into her mouth. I have tried to distract her by giving her a toy but that ends up in her mouth,,any suggestions..?? Or does it get easier..??

hollya · 12/10/2005 21:30

hi maddison, i have the same problem with my dd. she has gone from the 91st to the 98th percentile in 2 weeks!! i have about 6 health visitors and each of them are telling me different things. one says that she is too fat and she won't be able to move (what a load of rubbish, she is very active and not that fat at all, just a bit chunky), another says feed her as much as she will eat and another says only give her an egg cup full. i have too much info from too many different people, it really makes you think you are doing something wrong. i was really worried about it last week, but now have decided not to stress about it. she is a very happy, healthy baby and i've been looking at photos of myself and my sister when we were babies - we were both fatter than alice and we both were walking at 10 months. also baby fatness has nothing to do with future fatness- my sister was a very fat baby and she is now a size 8 (skinny cow!)

I'm afraid that food everywhere is inevitable, Shhh.

Glad you had a lovely holiday Myermay!

Yes, we've seen the specialists and dd is ok, no action to be taken unless it is still visible when she is 5 and she will need an eye test at 1 year old just to be sure. Went shopping last night in Sainsbury's and the security guard asked us what had happened to her face in a fairly suspicious voice. It's a bit depressing.

logic · 13/10/2005 14:16

Meant to say, hope ds2 is ok, myermay.

I know exactly what you mean, it is upsetting but facing it now will help the kiddies later. Will it sort itself out fairly quickly then with the helmet? I just said to the security guard that it was a birthmark and he seemed satisfied with that. We saw a Professor in Paediatric Dermatology at the Portland for dd so I reckon we got the best advice possible :-) and he warned us to expect comments from people.

Hi myermay glad the holiday went well..we go away in 3 weeks time so you have given us some hope!! Esp as you don't just have the one!!! Any advice or tips..? esp about flying..??

Well I have been up this morning from 2am till 5am , suppose it was all worth it though...dd's first tooth is showing ..! She wasn't crying but more like talking to us !! Supose she was telling us that a peggy was showing! Bless ! Suppose that makes dd the 1st "may baby" with a tooth on show (ish)..? !!!!!!! Any other takers ?

Myermay glad you are managing to get things sorted with ds2,I hope things go right from now on. It must be awful to be taking babies to hospital appointments but suppose it has to be done. Like you said you are doing the right thing for him esp before he gets any older. xx

myermay thanks for the tips...They are v helpful. We fly to the canaries so only a short flight (4 hrs approx). We have asked for a skycot but this isn't guaranteed but hopfully if we get to checkin early enough we should be able to have this request honoured. I know dd prob won't go into a skycot but like you said at least we then have the extra space etc. I suppose we could lie her on the floor on a blanket and let her play with her toys as though she was at home..??

About the buggy, we have just bought a new one that our car seat sits/fixes into as our original one didn't have this feature. Hopefully then we can use the car seat in the taxi over there etc so she is not unsafe in a car. The other idea is that this pram can be used while on holiday as is easier to fold and carry etc so we can take it to the aircraft door, I know though that it comes out the other end with the luggage etc so hopefully we don't have too long a walk to collect bags etc. I just hope that they don't damage it etc. . Will have to do my best to mark it fragile !!!!
I'm quite excited but my only concern is if she cries while in air esp with other passengers nearby but suppose thats life when you have a baby..! Never thought about the calpol issue but ill defo have to remember that! A brilliant sedative .

Thanks again
