Hello! How is everyone? Dd is finally sleeping in her own bed - yay!

Don't worry, northstar, it happens to everyone. In fact, I don't know anybody who's baby hasn't wriggled off something or tripped down some stairs.
They are getting so strong now aren't they?

Hi everyone, just got my computer back from the mender man (boy)it cost me 180euro and my darling dp thinks it cost me 40!!! It is used purely for mn, and since dd born i have been on approximately 8 times
All well here, good to read about all the may babies dribbling/teething/not eating, makes me feel normal
Welcome to the new posters.
Is anyone else having great fun shopping for winter clothes for their new arrivals?

northstar · 17/09/2005 23:54

I have just been back to our original DUE MAY thread, it really got going around this time last year, and had a great read of all our posts. Did anyone else do that?

The Next stuff is lovely isn't it? Most of dd's stuff is from there and I've got some of the diggers range for ds atm.

Logic I agree, most of dd's clothes are from next. They are generous in size so last ages and they also wash really well. I also love the baby grows as they are a good fit..I bought dd a babygrow that has built in bunny slippers at the feet, it's well cute!

Yup Northstar, I have been thinking of where we all were a year ago. Strange that I have been thinking about this recently & then read your post! I have been keeping a diary since dd was born & I also kept one while pregnant, dh & I knew about dd since being 4 weeks pregnant & it's been lovely to read back about how I was at this time a year ago. I have also read it out each day to dd. I think this time last year I was about 5 weeks pregnant. Dh & I also reminded each other today about how sick I was & that I didn't move from bed until about 20+ weeks! LOL..Look at me now! Up and rareing (?sp) to go at 7am!!
But it is quite sad though as time seems to have flown so quickly and before we know it...well I'm not going to say but you all know what I mean.
BUT We have all got beautiful babies and some of us will be doing it again soon . God I am getting broody!
Logic I will be thinking of you tomorrow...Hope all goes well for you & dd.
Hope everyone else is doing well xx

Hi all, amazing to think where we all were last year!
Poor little dd has a cold and cough. On saturday she kept crying, even waking up crying because she was feeling so ill, she's sneezed up loads of mucus and hates having her nose wiped. She's a bit better today but has a cough now, I rang NHS direct and they listened to her cough and say it should get better in a few days if not to see her doctor. I just wish there was more I could do to make her feel better. the head end of her cot is raised and I steam olbas oil into our bedroom at night to help her. Any other tips would be great. Me and dp have it too, dp is being a typical bloke about it though and keeps moaning, reckons he feels worse than dd, listening to him moaning is almost worse than having a cold at least he is looking after dd while I'm on the computer though. Hope everyone else and your babies are well.

logic · 19/09/2005 21:50

Oh it's awful when your're all ill isn't it? You just want to stay in bed and you have to get up to the baby. Some calpol might make her feel better though. It'll help her to sleep so that you all get some rest!

Saw the dermatology consultant today and he was pretty certain that dd's eyes haven't been affected and that her birthmark has stopped growing. He wants her to see an eye specialist anyway, just to check. He won't touch the birthmark unless it's still there when she's 5. He was sure that it'll be gone by then anyway. So good news really.

OP posts:
northstar · 19/09/2005 22:04

Thats good news logic
fingers crossed now for the specialist report.

lucykate · 21/09/2005 23:35

i'm having a bad evening tonight. dh is away for work, dd seems to have started with a bad cold, and ds has hardly slept all day and is very unsettled. he seems to have gone from not being interested in milk to having a bit of a growth spurt as he's now really hungrey. had his second injections on monday, he's late with them all as he got chicken pox at 7wks and one thigh has gone a bit hard and red. this never happened with dd, has anyone else had this?

i accidently clicked on another thread earlier in active conversations, something about hooters sounding and which kind of threads people hated, very strange. for a minute i thought i was back in the school playground. what on earth is all that about? its enough to put anyone who's new to mn right off!

logic · 22/09/2005 10:33

hi lucykate, sorry, my kids' legs didn't do that after jabs but I've heard of it happening to other people. Dd is late with her 3rd lot of jabs because she's been ill. I'll have to do it next week.

There can be some nasty threads on MN but it's mostly lovely. You can avoid the huge arguments by avoiding active convos and chat and only reading the individual topics. There is the occasional troll that causes trouble too, it's what you have to expect on an open forum though.

matthewsmummy · 22/09/2005 11:31

hi all, glad everyones doing ok. hope all the little ones with colds get better soon, matthew has just got over another one hes about 5 since hes been born, hes 15wks now. i don't know why coz we hardly ever go out really.

im abit confused about the injetions, some of you have said that your babies have had them all already but i thought the were only surposed to have them at 2mths, 4mths and 6mths. thats what it says in his little red book thingy. i got his appointment through to have his seconds ones at 13wks but he only had his first at 9wks so i didnt take him coz thought they had it wrong. will i still be able to get his 2nd ones done now hes 15wks or is it too late?

thinking about starting him on solids soon, did everyone wait till they were 4 mths like they say? not really sure where to start. hes showing signs of maybe needing more that just milk, and he also seems to be wanting to go to bed at about 8, but ive been waking him again for his half 10 feed coz i know he still sleeps too much during the day to sleep through. has anyone got theres one a 7pm till 7am routine yet. if you have how did you do it? and what and how much food are they having. do they sleep less during the day?

im going back to college on monday to finish my child care course (sounds stupid now as i think i know pretty much everything after looking after a baby 24 hrs a day 7 days a week) but i surpose we can never know everything as all babies are different. im only going to be going on mon and tues to begin with and in november it will be all day 5 days a week. matthew is going to the nursery they have there, hes been for a few sessions and it seems very good there and hes ok with the poeple (hes the youngest so the all go goo-gar over him) but i still feel mean leaving him so young, and i know im gonna miss him so much. but it will bw worth it in the end when im qualified and he can come to work with me. and its only for a year.

well take care everyone, would be really happy with any advise on the subjects ive mentioned.

bye xxx

logic · 22/09/2005 11:58

Matthewsmummy, my kids' red books say the initial jabs should be given at 2,3 and 4 months! My two have got colds too but dd only sleeps from about 3am-8am so I just feed on demand still. Pretty much stopped bfing though so I'm going to throw out all my nursing bras and wear nice ones again

Personally, I think it would be better in the long run (for Matthew and yourself) for you to do the course. It'll be hard but it'll give you more options later on...

OP posts:
Tinker · 22/09/2005 12:25

matthewsmummy - the jabs are meant to be at 2, 3 and 4 months but don't think it's the end of the world if you're behind. Just ring your gp and explain.

Not weaning yet, am trying to stick to 6 months. Plus, weaning is a faff, I think.

Hesitant to say it (know it can all change) but have a 7 to 7 sleeper. She just fell into it herself, really. No idea how much she has during day since still breastfeeding. She doesn't have many long sleeps in the day but lots of catnaps after a feed.

northstar · 22/09/2005 13:18

mathewsmummy, Im in ireland and the advice is 2, 4 and 6 months for jabs, then 1yr for the mmr.

The current WHO advice is to wean at 6mths, but dd isn't a hungry baby bottle wise and is quite slim although not thin. My HV advised me to start at 4.5mths. She is just having about ten spoonfuls of baby rice in the evening, and she has told me to give no fruit or veg before 6mths for some reason? What are you all weaning with?

ABow · 22/09/2005 14:09

Lucykate - I'm probably too late for this reply to be helpful but the hardness and redness after an injection is an inflammatory response ie. it shows that the vaccine is stimulating the immune system. Dd had it after her 2nd jab and it was quite sore for about 3 days Calpol worked wonders.

logic · 22/09/2005 14:10

northstar, I have stopped weaning for the time being (although I am all in favour of weaning at 4 months) because dd is still very colicky. Baby rice makes it a lot worse for some reason. No idea why waiting for the fruit is recommended. My HV said if you have started weaning to give fruit and veg.

OP posts:
LittleB · 22/09/2005 19:50

My dd is much better now. She had her injections at 2, 3 and 4 months. Have just spoken to HV about weaning as she seems really interested in food and was trying to grab mine the other day, but she said to leave it as long as possible, to get nearer 6 months, I think we'll wait until she seems hungrier or starts to wake in the night. We've been told to start on baby rice for the first week or two then we can start on fruit and veg, before 6 months. I'm lucky in that she also sleeps from 7-6ish, she fell into this routine all by herself and is on 5 x 7oz bottles, at roughly 6, 9.30, 1, 4.30 and 7, she only has about half of her mid morning one and her 7pm one and often leaves an ounce or so of the others, but I think thats right for her weight (about 14lbs). She usually has two naps in the day, one around lunchtime and again late afternoon, for between 30mins to 1 hour. Hope this helps you Matthewsmummy.
Glad you got some good news about your dd's birthmark, it must be a relief for you. It's nice to get into proper bras again isn't it, I've only got a couple I can wear though, before I got pregnant i was a 34a, I've just been measured as a 34c - couldn't believe it, but I'm still trying to loose weight so I expecvt they'll shrink, don't want to buy decent bras until they've settled down though, so keep buying cheapo primark bras, did the others of you who've had babies before find your breasts satyed bigger or shrunk again?

lucykate · 22/09/2005 20:27

(.)(.) are about the same as before, but now resting a little lower!

i weaned dd at 4 months but am going to wait a bit with ds, he's not ready yet. he gagged when i gave him calpol after his injections from a spoon.

when i was writing this message, the first posting from logic caught my eye, about babies wriggling off something. can i just add to that, i dropped ds when he was 2 wks old! i was moving the bouncy chair and slipped, it fell over and he toppled out onto the tiled kitchen floor. i was mortified, couldn't believe i'd done it. he, on the other hand, never even woke up to notice what had happened!

LittleB · 22/09/2005 23:06

Lucykate, dd wriggled off the bed the other day, I'd put pillows either side of her as she rolls over occaisionally, but she wiggled foot first off it, don't know how she did it, mainly landed on soft rug, but bumped her head on her wet wipes box, poor little thing cried and had a bump. You feel so guilty don't you.
I like your diagram (;)(;) , mine have stretch marks too though!
My dd takes gripewater fine from a spoon (for her colic although I'm weaning her off it now) but hates calpol, she tries to spit it all out again!

northstar · 23/09/2005 09:58

I mix the calpol with a little cooled boiled water and give it to dd in a bottle because she didn't like the thickness of it in her mouth when she was smaller.
She finally got the hang of food on a spoon last night, it is a great breakthrough
I think my hv said no fruit or veg because she wants dd to fatten up a bit.
As far as sleeping and feeding, dd goes to sleep after a 6oz at 8/9pm then wakes at 1/2am for 7oz then 6am for 6oz. She then sleeps most of the morning and only has another 6oz at 1/2pm and 6oz plus baby rice at 6/7pm. I am quite used to it though, and she seems contented. Would love a nights' sleep though.

matthewsmummy · 23/09/2005 13:06

thanx for all the advise everyone.

i spoke to my hv and re booked his injetions for tuesday, so thats all sorted.

my (.)(.) have pretty much gone back to normal apart from being covered in stretch marks now.

his routine at the moment is:
wakes at around 7amish has bottle, doesen't always finish it all
sleeps from 8amish till 11amish
has another bottle
try and keep him awake for as long as poss but usually has about another hr
next bottle at 3pmish
then has another good sleep about 2hrs
next bottle at 7pm
then bath at 8ish
normally falls asleep at haif 9 then i wake him at 10 for last bottle sometimes only has about half of it.
sleeps through until 7amish but usually wkaes a few times for dummy
he has 7oz bottles and weighs 14lb 15oz

i think ill just let him fall into his own routine and give him solids when he needs them. has anyone given solids before 4 mths?

take care all xxx

shhhh · 23/09/2005 14:23

a tip for those of you who struggle to give your little one calpol/liquid medication etc. Try it with a syringe type thingy (About 50p ish from boots)We do it this way with dd & never have any problems. You need to position it in towards their cheek and press the plunger gently. DD loves it this way & even tries to bite down on it! LOL.

About jabs matthewsmummy dd has had her jabs at 2,3 & 4 months. Also about colds etc it may be best to take ds out and about as this allows him to bulid up his immune system. I know its hard as I was the same with dd, I HATED taking her anywhere in case she picked up germs etc (even the docs for her jabs etc). But I now know that she needs germs to protect herself iykwim...DD & I now attend weekly swimming & massage classes and she seems to be doin well. I however went out for a girls night out last fri,the first time I have been drunk since my honeymoon last Aug! I have regretted it though as I seem to have picked up some cold !! Arrggh..Just hoping dd manages to not get it!

shhhh · 23/09/2005 14:28

mm, forgot to say, dd has fallen into her own routine for the moment. She has her last bottle around 8ish and usually sleeps from 8pm till 8am so I guess its kind of following the 7-7 routine ! Takes after her mum for being awkward !!! I wouldn't stress as babies tend to find their own routine.
I did try dd on solids at around 13 weeks but gave up after 3-2 weeks. She was never interested. She is now 18 weeks and I may try again in a few weeks time.

Maddison · 24/09/2005 20:29

Can't stay on long as DS2will be going to bed soon, I'm doing the baby massage classes too, but DS2 is such a chilled out little man, I don't think they are doing him any 'good' iykwim, we just really enjoy them. They are supposed to be good for windy babies so it may be worthwhile doing them for those who have trouble with wind.

Had DS2 weighed almost 2 weeks ago and he was 17lb 14oz! No wonder I get dead arms carrying him about!

Well I've got to go and get him to bed, he's not a 7-7 baby, normally goes down around now until around 7 am.

shhhh · 24/09/2005 22:36

Hi maddison, nice to hear all is going well with your ds2. DD is doing well on the weight side. Also weighed 2 weeks ago and she was 14lb 7ozs. She is nearly 19 weeks..my how time has flown. Dh & I have recently been discussing baby2..thats all for the moment though..discussing ...! I can't wait for baby2 but although I didn't have a bad labour & birth it wasn't something I enjoyed iykwim! I need to make this a distant memory before we even start trying!
For those of you with more than 1 baby how did subsequent births go for you..? Worse or better..? How did you manage to get through the pregnancy knowing what was "coming"..

Yeah I agree baby massage is good. DD is also a very content and chilled baby (touch wood!!) but I thought this may give me other ways of relaxing her (I usually massage her after her bath) & I also I wanted to bond with her more than I have done (if thats possible!).. I would suggest it to anyone who is wanting to do something with baby.

Has anyones baby got teeth yet..? DD is chewing like mad & her tops etc are constantly wet, she is also finding bottles a struggle so I think it must be down to her teeth as she has always been a very good feeder. Wonder when they will start to show.
