IC hope your LO's arm is ok. Would definitely have it checked if you are in any doubt tomorrow.

bear echo IC, glad your mum is fine!

bethy very glad you ds1 is so much better. If only it had not taken the medics so long to think of lactose intolerance!!

GF are you okay or really in trouble? Shock

I want cake but feel too lazy to make one or go to the shops...Grin

GuernseyFrench · 17/10/2010 18:38

I'm still alive Grin not too much in trouble.

IC hopefully her arm will get better but if in doubt get it checked

BG If you go to the shop you've got an excuse to get the cake as you burnt the calories.

bethy glad your DS1 is better

DH, DS and I went for a walk along the coast this afternoon, 2.8 miles (roughly 5km) in 1 hour. Lovely weather down here. DS rash is nearly over, finally after a week and 4 days of metanium use. Tomorrow I may put DS back into reusable...

chinook · 17/10/2010 19:54

Hello all been reading every day but not had time to post. Mainly because ds has been waking so frequently in the evenings. I see sleep problems are affecting most of us so maybe there is some truth in the 8/9 month sleep regression/developmental spurt? Night times are actually ok once I have moved him from the cot and into the bed with me. He normally goes from 11 to 5 am then feeds and goes straight back to sleep until 7 ish. His elusive tooth number 8 has appeared this morning so hopefully evenings will settle down a bit.

scones congratulations on your marriage. Hope it is a very long and happy one. Dp and I must get round to it one day. When we have some spare cash......

GF if you were more local I would gladly pass on my freezer full of Annabel Karmel purees which ds steadfastly refuses. We are now confirmed baby led weaners. I have spent the afternoon making fish fingers, lentil croquettes, veg samosas and cheese straws. He had better like them.

stoof I have the same family dynamic as you. An older dd (now 4.7) and younger ds. They are so so different. We didn't do any baby proofing for dd as it just wasn't necessary. Ds seems obsessed with anything electrical. He loves my laptop and spends ages studying objects which dd never did. He also thinks he is hilarious and giggles to himself when he pulls my hair or when dd makes lots of noise, which seems quite a male trait.

Went to a garden centre today and they had all the xmas stuff out. I have to say that since having children I absolutely love xmas, because they do. I am about to start my unpaid maternity leave so I don't think we will be going mad with presents but I really want to spend time thinking about starting some little traditions, which are unique to our family now we are a complete unit.

bethylou just wanted to say how pleased I am for you now you have a diagnosis for ds1. Hopefully your luck has turned and someone will help you with ds2's problems soon.

Well I can hear that dp has finished the washing up so it is safe to go downstairs for a cup of tea and the x factor now Grin. Have a good week everyone.

bethylou · 17/10/2010 22:09

Off to bed but wanted to thank you all for your ongoing good wishes. DS1 has danced, sung, walked round woods and generally been a maniac today. I cried at him dancing to Mama Mia. It really has been a stressful few months and such a relief to have a healthy boy after 4.5 months fo a pale waif and stray. Thank you for listening to me. Now to sort out DS2... Smile

BG good luck with travel/time with family.
IC Take DD to doc and then let us know she's okay.
GF glad you are still with us!
BC noooo! Rubbish about the window. Especially when it's getting so cold.
CC hope the climbing was worth waiting for.

Am I the only one with two boys?!! No wonder my hair is greyer than any of yours is in the photos!!

GuernseyFrench · 18/10/2010 06:54

bethy I have grey hair too but I coloured them!

chinook 8 teeth! I'm impressed DS only has 2 at the moment and an elusive 3rd which takes its time to appear. I'm not actually a fan on A Karmel, but I got one of her books as a present and it's handy to get some inspirationswhen stuck. DS is fed on a mix of lumpy food and finger food.

After waking up all weekend at 5.15am today monday he slept until 6.30 Angry why can't he do that we I'm not up at 6? Smile

Have a good week

InmaculadaConcepcion · 18/10/2010 18:59

Can you send you AK purees out to Madrid, chinook..?! Very impressed with all the cooking you're doing...lentil croquettes! Great idea, think we'll steal that one.

Thanks for your concern about DD's arm, everyone. DH and I had resolved to take her to the doctor this morning after it still seemed to be giving her problems yesterday afternoon. Then come tea-time, she started using it again and by the time she was rolling around after her bath it was as if she'd never had a problem with it. So no need to see the doctor, it seems to be absolutely fine again, thankfully.

And we also had a much better night last night - 2 wake-ups before 06.00, which is more handle-able. Maybe it was because her arm wasn't giving any discomfort, maybe it was because tooth number two is now properly through, maybe it was because I made absolutely sure I put her down awake at bedtime....

Anyway, for whatever reason, we both got more sleep, hooray!

OP posts:
ClimberChick · 18/10/2010 22:58

every hour last night, but she does have a cold Sad, but seems mostly over it now Smile. Two nights ago she was almost unbearable (hot) to hold during feeding.

Hasn't stopped her starting to stand with no hands on anything though.

Still no teeth here, but she's still having a good go on this piece of apple.

Oh and she's also into all cables, laptops, second shelf of changing table etc. In fact sticky apple is no longer good enough and have sticky fingers impeding my typing.

Glad her arm is better IC, is that your MrIC knocking around?

GuernseyFrench · 19/10/2010 06:57

Poor you CC I hope you'll sleep better tonight.

IC glad your DD arm is better.

bethy I only have one DS but he is bonker too so it may be the February 2010 boys curse description Smile

DS is going from one good to a bade night almost daily. The nappy rash is officially over.

Time to go to work. Have a good day

InmaculadaConcepcion · 19/10/2010 07:18

Heh, well spotted, CC - MrIC is indeed DH... MN lurker and occasional poster...

SconesForTea · 19/10/2010 09:52

Good morning everyone!

GF I am Shock at getting up at 5.15 - on a weekend too!... but any time really. That is the middle of the night to me. Note to self, stop moaning when DD gets up at 7 (I'd rather it was 8...).

IC glad your DD's arm is better.

bc glad your mum is OK! Phew.

BG bon voyage and good luck. Hope you manage to stay calm and good natured with your mum!

stoof and bethy good luck with job and payrise applications... Speaking of which, I MUST email my boss to set up a meeting to discuss returning to work Confused after this (far more important to MN than email boss, obv).

CC hope you had a good climb.

chinook I'm just starting my unpaid mat leave too. I must admit, I've been finding it tough to get by on SMP these last few months, so I'm rather quailing in fear at how I'll do with nothing. (Well, I will have to do a lot less for starters.)

I am staying at my mum's for a few days as it's her half term. Lovely for me as she cooks dinner and takes the chance to look after DD as often as she can. So I had an afternoon nap yesterday for an hour and a half - what bliss. And tomorrow evening I'm going to the cinema, for a cocktail and then to a lovely restaurant for my sister's birthday Smile. Spending the SMP while I still have it!!

I bought a book on sleep, and then had too much stuff to carry it with me here, when I'd have had time to read it Hmm. My gut feeling though, is we'll have to go cold turkey on the dummy, as her night wakings are mostly just dummy resettles - but when? And how difficult will it be?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 19/10/2010 11:26

Hey, scones - have a look at the sleep forum, there are a few threads you can dredge up on dummy addiction and how to break it. Some go for a sleepytot so the baby can find the dummy themselves (if they've got the co-ordination) and others try Pantley Pull Off (takes ages, though) while the most success seems to be to go cold turkey. Usually takes around three days or so and is better done sooner rather than later.

Cold turkey would be hell for a few days, but probably more effective overall...

I did PPO and eventually DD stopped wanting her dummy overnight and eventually likewise for naps.

UNFORTUNATELY she now wants Mummy to be a human dummy, so that's another addiction I have to break. I fear my DD has an addictive personality. I hope she grows out of it before she discovers unhealthy substances and activities....

Good luck!!

OP posts:
GuernseyFrench · 19/10/2010 19:17

scones I bought the No cry sleep book and thought the ideas were good but I was already back to work and the thought of not sleeping for a few nights when at work did make me not do the PPO. So my advice would be do it when you're ready but still off!

IC You're a human dummy, I'm a human soother... same combat! I have introduced to DS a soft toy and he does cuddle it but at night, nothing is better than mummy's fingers!

bearcrumble · 19/10/2010 21:14

DS has joined the rash gang. He's got a little red circular patch on one cheek. I thought it looked fungal and the pharmacist agreed so I'm applying daktarin cream twice a day. If it makes no difference after a week I'll take him to the GP.

IC Glad her arm is ok.

Scones Sounds like you're having an excellent time. Was there a post about the wedding? Any wedding pics?

CC Sorry sleep was so bad but glad she's getting over the cold. Hope it is better tonight.

AbsB · 20/10/2010 11:39

What an awful week. DD has a terrible cold and is miserable. Poor love, she has snot streaming down her face and cries all the time. Had her all day without a single break from 6am to 10pm last night! I ate a sad soggy baked potato with her screaming into the monitor.. then I took her to bed and just dosed in a sea of snot most of the night! Hmm
Then took her and the dogs to Qwik Fit to get the car serviced early this morning and she's been clinging to me ever since. I am exhausted!
I too am a human dummy... and it's such a shame as last week she started sleeping from 7pm to 6.30am with a feed at 3am! And I thought she'd turned a corner!
The only thing going well is her eating! She eats really well... porridge, banana and natural yogurt with a slice of orange for breakfast, mini pasta with fresh cherry tomato, onion and herb sauce with grated cheese for lunch followed by poached plaice, sweet potato and broccoli florets for dinner! Yesterday she ate more than I did! Grin

Sorry very me post but can't remember anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GuernseyFrench · 20/10/2010 16:56

Abs poor you, let's hope she gets better soon and that you can have a rest.

We are doing CC at the present as DS wakes up at 2.30am and even his human soother (aka me) doesn't settle him back down. 2 nights ago, I gave up after 15mn but last night he cried for 10mn then stopped and winged a bit after that but he fell asleep. I was against it but I'm at the end of my teether Sad Let's see what tonight brings

InmaculadaConcepcion · 20/10/2010 20:01

Oh, Abs, how rotten for you both! Sending you Get Well Soon vibes.
Her sleeping will probably go back to the way it was once she's over the cold. With all that good food inside her, her immune system should see it off fairly pronto!

Ooh, GF, good luck with the CC. I kind of did it to settle DD at bedtime, hence the better nights. But she still wakes up two or three times and last night one of those had her refusing to be resettled for almost 2 hours. Can't face more crying though. Not for the moment, anyhow. What with more teeth coming through and the 9moSR hoving into view, it probably wouldn't work anyway.

Hope the rash clears soon, bc

Ooh, these are fun [hsmile]

just marking? hugs and sympathy for those that need it? and even for those that don't? can't believe how busy i am at the moment! x

ClimberChick · 20/10/2010 20:35

Still have a cold here. She's fine in the day, but struggles to breathe at night so last night was another every hour one.

Parenting is fun. Have to start getting ready for our weekend away soon. Going to the grand canyon, with a stopover in Vegas Smile

AbsB · 20/10/2010 20:39

well spotted IC... [hgrin] another bad evening... she won't go to sleep on their own. I have a friend over from Barcelona and I've hardly been able to speak to him yet!!! [hsad]

AbsB · 20/10/2010 20:54

I meant to say on HER own!

GuernseyFrench · 21/10/2010 06:47

No need for CC last night as my little monster lovely DS slept through! 7pm til 5.30am

Abs CC hopefully you had a better night

CC enjoy the Grand Canyon it's fab. I'm Envy. Where are you staying in Vegas? Can you go into a casino with a baby? We went there last year when I was 20 weeks pregnant.

GuernseyFrench · 21/10/2010 18:15

Anybody home?? [hwink]

InmaculadaConcepcion · 21/10/2010 18:45

I'm here!!

Oh, CC and Abs, I do hope the various colds etc. get better soon and you have improved nights.

Naps were a bit rubbish today - my fault for cocking up the timings of them. Fingers crossed it won't impact on the night too badly. DD was zonked at bedtime, so no trouble there... come 04.00? We shall see.

Last night was better - she woke four times between 19.45 and 07.45, but because she settled well after a feed each time, we both got more sleep as a result. I think I'd rather have (a few) more wakings with fast settles than fewer with looooooong ones...

Tooth number three just broke through, top left - three days after the previous one came at the bottom. Its neighbour is visible below the gum, too. Yikes.

And worryingly, DD's worked out how to remove her nappy... uh-oh!!! Backwards shells from now on, methinks.[hwink]

OP posts:
GuernseyFrench · 21/10/2010 18:55

IC lol at your DD removing her nappies [hgrin]

DS fell asleep on his highchair, I managed to feed him quickly before but I wonder how the night is going to be as he was in bed about 30 to 45mn before his usual time. I'll give him his bottle when I go to bed (which will be around 9ish [hhmm] ! What a late nighter I am...)

He can now walk if hold between DH and I or if he holds onto the coffee table or on his walker

InmaculadaConcepcion · 21/10/2010 19:52

I go to bed at 21.00 too, GF - who else is on early bedtime detail? If you know you're going to get woken X times overnight or before 06.00, it's the only way...

Night night, All [hsmile]
