BG poor you, you're right I think it was watercress who said that some people may react to E45. DS also reacts when I'm leaving him somewhere by himself even sometimes when he is with DH, but luckily he doesn't react yet when I leave him to nursery.

rain I'm impressed!

mama I'm pretty I read on the weaning page that tofu was fine but better to double check. CAn they have brie, camembert and those very french cheeeses (I'm not thinking of blue yet) at 8 months?

HV 8 months check today, DS is 9.02kg (19lb14) and measures 68.5cm which places him on near the 75 centile for weight and 25 centile for height.

Hi all,

Just marking place before it drops off my 'I'm on' list

GuernseyFrench · 09/10/2010 06:23

Morning my alarm o'clock got up at 5.15am this morning, I managed to take him to bed with us up to 6am when he decided the start had started. Shock It's the weekend we should be able to sleep!
On the other hand as I'm up early, I've been able to empty the load of nappies from washing machine and started a new load and we are still in econony hours! [pathetic emocotion}
We're now playning on the carpet while watching Alladdin in French.
I hope your little ones let you enjoy a weekend sleep

GuernseyFrench · 09/10/2010 07:06

stoof what about adopting an animal for your DD? Chester Zoo does that scheme, it's probably easier than to have a camel in your living room or dolphins in your bath Grin

mamaloco · 09/10/2010 08:55

GF I give cheeses (pasteurized though) like brie camenbert and chevre to DD2 since she is past 6 months just tiny bits to see if she likes it. (She LOVES it) not too much though because she is very keen and still big. I think bleu cheeses are OK after 15/18 months.
I give only the cream though not the crust.

BG sorry about the rash, you said she has a cold too, does she has red/drippy eyes as well? Rash behind the ears and neck is the start of measles (associatetd with the other symptoms), it will go down the body and the limbs if it is, so keep her in check.
It can be a virus rash (other than measles as well), will spread too.
DD1 skin is very reactive oilatum, and vaseline was neutral didn't make it better but not worse. We tried E45, dexeryl, avene, A-derma, diprobase, Simple, boots sensitive range... some other brands as well (can't remember all the names can show you the packs though), all made it worse.
Only Aveeno (OK but needed a lot of applications, everytime there was a nappy change) and Ictyane (the best one for us) worked.
It is a hit and miss game, I know people who react to different creams. Try and try again untill you find the ONE. It should make it better, if after a week it is still the same that is not working, if it make it worse stop right away.
Before we found the right cream for her we had to use cortisone cream to calm the flares on DD1, go to your GP if it red and bleedy.
She is still on Ictyane once a day to keep her eczema in check (at almost 6), but we haven't used the cortisone in ages (may be once a year).
Good luck it is expensive and hair pulling for the mum, when the shops run out of Ictyane I run around like a mad chicken... Grin

Good night here (relatively speaking) with dd2 up once at half 3 for cuddles and baby nurofen. She then slept until past 7. In my sleepy state I smothered her rash in sudocrem in the night and you know what, it seems to have made a difference! mamaloco thanks for the advice - it is quite frustrating to try and find something that works. I think an itch is worse than pain sometimes... By the way mamaloco, how is your LO's tooth? If it hasn't discoloured yet it's probably going to be fine Smile
I just caught dd2 appearing to crawl in slow motion but moving forwards to where she wanted to go!!! Not quite crawling yet but getting there Grin

InmaculadaConcepcion · 09/10/2010 11:04

Glad to hear DD2 seems better, BG - as a new mum I think I would have panicked a bit if my DD was struggling to breathe and rushed off to the doctor's.... sounds like you have the wisdom of experience to keep you on an even keel!

Likewise, thanks for the thoughts re: lumps in food. I either give DD Greek yogurt plain or with a little fruit puree mixed in, so not with bits in yet. She gnaws happily on toast, bread, roast veg, fruit, rice-cakes etc., but I haven't really tried especially course purees or ones with bits in yet.

Poor DD was getting all antsy whenever I put her down this morning and I was getting a bit impatient, thinking it was separation anxiety and wondering why the usual toy distractions weren't working. I was just putting her in the sling to go for a walk when her nappy came level with my nose...
On the changing mat, she proceeded to poo some more, accompanied by anguished wailing then an almost hilarious expression of relief when she was finished. Bless her!! A touch of constipation, I think.

In Spanish, "constipado" means a head cold... you have to be a bit careful when discussing your health at times Grin

We had a rare visit from my BIL and he brought lots of Halloween things for dd1 including a rather nasty Frankenstein mask... dh tried it on and the next thing I heard from the kitchen was dd1 giggling and dd2 howling in absolute terror!! My poor poor baby... Sad She gets upset when we are out of sight, so her Papa turning into a monster was just too much for her Shock

GuernseyFrench · 09/10/2010 19:44

Responsible mother? I'm not sure I am...Confused

We went out for lunch today and I gave DS his food before our lunch arrived. I had a steak with some mashed potatoes and carrots sticks. DS started winging as he wasn't eating so what did I give him?... A piece of steak! DH looked at me and said why did not you give him a carrot? It didn't even cross my mind to give him the carrot!! But DS enjoyed the steak sucking all the juice and trying to chew it.

BG I hope your dd2 does not get scared of her dad!

DS got a very bad nappy rash at the moment Sad , he is full of bepanthen cream to see if it will help... Will see the result tomorrow.

BabyGiraffes · 09/10/2010 19:53

Something very odd is going on in this house today... Grin I just found dd1 and dh dancing/hopping to a Pet Shop Boys album in the kitchen Grin Shock Biscuit

GuernseyFrench · 09/10/2010 19:58

BabyGiraffes · 09/10/2010 20:27

ClimberChick · 10/10/2010 06:00

Hi all,

Feel like I haven't done a proper post in ages. I've kinda lost track of things so my responses will be a bit random.

Stangirl you are not a slummy mummy. We do cooked food because we're lazy. She has what we have unless it's bad or her morning porridge. In which case we just chop up some courgette and fruit. We're also a bit poor, so pouches just aren't for us.

IC the problem with the bumgenius leaking seems to happen when she has her legs drawn up (i.e. during feeding), so sleeping is normally fine. LO only slept on her side for a while before graduating to her front, so hopefully yours will do the same. She's now had egg 3 times, so is deemed egg safe. Plan to not give it again now for a long time. She's also had some chicken to suck on, the little traitor loved it Grin DH only has meat about once a month though (minus his ham sarnies, which obviously she doesn't partake).

We're struggling with our kari-me sling. She likes to get her arms out which then makes her unstable so we lose the hands-free part. Any suggestions for better slings or solutions?

Sleep seems to be going better Smile She's now going every 3 hours, but last night I think she went 6 (I don't remember feeding her, but co-sleeping makes it all a haze). I'm sure it's a one off, but it's more than she's ever done before (minus the first 2 weeks).

She went off solids for a few days, which I think was related to teething pain.

Me and DH had our 2nd wedding anniversary last week. We had a very enjoyable evening, very romantic. We've started getting more emotionally connected so that's good Smile

ClimberChick · 10/10/2010 06:00

Oh and 5 am is the time to get up apparently (luckily DH takes her Grin)

GuernseyFrench · 10/10/2010 06:21

Morning all awake at 5.15am abd up at 6am. Why does he wake up earlier at weekends? Hmm

GuernseyFrench · 10/10/2010 06:21

GuernseyFrench · 10/10/2010 08:42

Stoof The rash is a wee bit better at the back but there are 2 patches are the front very sore and bleeding. So today he'll wear disposable and I'll put some eosin to help it dries.

bearcrumble · 10/10/2010 08:59

After me moaning about 2 wakings Thursday night, Friday night was even worse - loads of wakings, DH snoring, four times I had to get DS out and feed him.

So I felt crap yesterday. You know those days where you've not had enough sleep and it just feels like a constant round of chore after chore and no time at all to spend with the baby apart from feeding them? It was a rubbish day. Also there was an orange stain (lentil stew puke) on one of his nicest tops and I tried forever to get it out with vanish and multiple washings and it's still not totally gone.

Luckily, praise the lord, last night was not bad at all. He woke first at 9 and I thought "oh God this is going to be a long night" and we wouldn't take him out of the cot that early so he grizzled and cried for ages (with me in the room) but I stayed firm and he finally fell asleep. Then I think he woke again at quarter to midnight and I did give him a feed as I was so tired but then he slept until 7.10am so I feel good.

So sorry to hear about the rash BG - glad the Sudocrem seemed to help.

Oh I did a daft thing on Friday night. I usually have a drinking bottle but I left it at a playgroup so I had a glass next to the bed on the floor. When I picked up my mobile to check what time it was for one of DS's wakings, when I put it down again I managed to put it in the water. It's an old Nokia that they don't make any more but I like it because it is simple (like me) Sad . I dried it out and recharged it and it mostly works except when I press 0 it gives me a 2 and when I press 8 I get a 5. Brilliant.

bearcrumble · 10/10/2010 09:00

GF Sorry to hear about your DS's rash too. Sorry, should have said. Hope your treatment has a fast effect.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 10/10/2010 11:49

stoof Shock 04.30
GF Shock steak
CC Shock chicken
BG Shock Pet Shop Boys

Actually, I'm only a tiny bit shocked...

Oh, bc, you sound a bit out of sorts - glad you had a better night last night... It's always worse when they regress after an improvement, isn't it?

Hope the rashes clear up soon, GF and BG

Another leak last night, despite my extra containment measures. That and a 2-attempts- over-an-hour resettle made DD's two wake-ups before 06.00 seem rather longer...

And a MOST frustrating morning. DD whinged and fussed her way through breakfast (could be a tooth issue); then wouldn't unlatch for more than 5 mins at a time during her first nap, making it a very stop/start, back-straining affair; then rolled off her changing mat and peed all over the bed and her clothes. Grumble. Nothing disastrous, but a culmination of irritation.

Anyway, on a brighter note, DH put a couple of video clips on the blog, if you fancy a lookee. DD doing a little bit of talking (gratifyingly "umamama..."), pulling herself up on DH's fingers and generally wriggling around. Tooth number one very much in evidence (I predict tooth number two will be through in the next couple of days...)

GF, BG how are the rashes? And stoof what news on the boils?

BC pleased to hear the phone recovered. My sister accidentally washed her ipod but ten days in dry rice seemed to sort it out, much to her relief!

CC glad the sleep is going better. Sorry to those not experiencing an improvement.

At Casa Watercress, both my girls are back to normal after the pox, and DH is back from Singapore. He's complaining about jet lag, but I'm having none of it as he also keeps telling me about how wonderful flying business class was / the brilliant meals he went for / the lovely hotel etc etc!

Anyone else experiencing puree rejection? I'm now doing very small chopped up meals (for example, lunch was bread, chicken, tomato and cucumber, followed by grapes, and dinner will be fish, potato and peas, followed by yogurt and fruit) and attempt to give a couple of spoons of puree to make me feel better. She's also more or less rejecting her afternoon milk, but I don't want to drop it as she only has 4oz in the morning (plus another oz in her cereal) and a maximum of 4oz at bedtime (but often much less, sometimes just half and ounce). Anyone else on so little milk?

ClimberChick · 10/10/2010 17:38

Also hoping the rashes clear up. We had a monster 3 weeks with LO and her rash, which was despite at least 2 hurs naked time everyday (had towels laid out all over the living room). Sudacrem had worked in the past, but didn't touch it. In the end we got some higher strength znc oxide stuff, which was really sticky so provided a proper barrier. Once that took the edge off, we went back to sudacrem.

If it's bleeding, might be worth a trip to the docs and check it's not infected.

If it's stubborn it could be thrush which (well over here anyway) you get over the counter stuff to try.

Sorry watercress, don't know about milk intake. I guess it's so hard at this age because every baby is different. I guess just watch out for usual signs of dehydration.
