Is that "ja, meine Liebling", by any chance BG?

IC Grin yes it is, although I tend to call my dds various other names which translate badly into English (baby sparrow and if naughty, small rat are just some... told you it sounds odd in English). Dh thinks it's bizarre, but then he likes to call dd1 'das Kind' (the child). I overheard dd1 chatting to herself a while back 'My name is Marlene, my name is kleiner Spatz (small sparrow), my name is das Kind... I have many names' Grin

mamaloco those are cute!! Mind you, if your dd is walking you may as well go for shoes for outdoors anyway... Have you checked ebay for the slippers? (Can you buy UK ebay stuff from where you are?)

As for disrupted nights, we have had an awful week in the lake district with the children sharing a room and waking each other with their coughs...It came as quite a shock to dh and myself to get up three or four times in the night to see to them.

stoof good luck with the jobs!

Argh, can't do proper links any more..... Confused

SunnyBumpIsNowSunnyMummy · 05/10/2010 14:03

There's some lambskin bootees here
www.bosiesforbaby.co.uk/Toys-and-Accessories.html

We have Robeez, with dinosaurs on! Their main job is to keep the socks on which they do amazingly well. DS has never managed to get them off himself, and he tries a lot. They're really soft too.

The snowsuit we've got for this autumn has detachable feet-mittens for warmth, I want one for me! Hopefully that'll keep his feet snuggly til he needs walkers.

BabyGiraffes · 05/10/2010 14:08

watercress your dd is brighter than mine Grin. Mine will beam at her big sister despite being sat on, having her toys snatched, being tormented with food just out of reach.... Grin

GuernseyFrench · 05/10/2010 16:56

aaarg! I'm desperately trying to get DS to nap and it's a real challenge but I'll not fail...

GuernseyFrench · 05/10/2010 18:57

Yepee! He slept for 20mn, which gave me time to wash his bottles and prepare the veg for his meals - sweet potatoes, leeks and red lentils. It seems that the left over of pork curry I had in the fridge for him was eaten by DH yesterday Hmm

What is the thing your LO does which drives you nuts?
For me it's when he rolls on his belly while I'm changing his nappy... I'm holding his feet and he turns then stares at me with a huge grin. How can I be cross?

stoofadoof · 06/10/2010 06:07

morning!

evening!

mamaloco · 06/10/2010 06:31

ClimberChick · 06/10/2010 06:38

maybe, but I'm actually off to bed. Goodnight Smile

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/10/2010 08:24

Morning All/Night night CC!

Wish I'd posted when I was actually first up now, with the advantage of Spanish time +1 I would have won... (are you +1, mamaloco?)

Not a bad night for DD - she woke three times, but resettled herself on one of those and was up for the day at 06.45.
Because her pattern had changed from the past week though, typically I didn't sleep as well...hah!

I haven't been involved in the shoe discussion BG, honest!! Link, what link??!!
Must admit, I had a lookee, though. What is it about baby shoes, they are so cute!!

Out of interest, what does everyone do about keeping their LOs' clothes from being decimated at every mealtime? The heinous stains left by banana and plum have put the kybosh on our plans to pass on some of our baby clothes, which is a shame. I had been double-bibbing anyway (one as a soaker, one as a food-catcher - that one has a gap at the top, hence the second one underneath), but it wasn't enough. Now I just put on a sleep suit that's already stained, so it doesn't matter if it gets dirty.

What are your tactics? Or do you have uncommonly tidy eaters??!

OP posts:
Stangirl · 06/10/2010 09:04

IC no magic formula for clean clothes - i keep her in her sleep suit for breakfast, roll her sleeves up for other meals and use a large rubbery bib with a lip. She does eat a bit like a baby bird though and puts her arms back and her head forward to the spoon which keeps it quite tidy. This sounds great but means that I worry about her learning to feed herself as she has no inclination to hold a cup or spoon for herself. Hey ho.

Is there a slummy mummy thread anywhere because in 2 months of solids I have only fed her homemade food about 6 times? I just don't know how anyone gets around to buy/cook anything. I'm full of admiration ladies but my LO is growing up on Ella's and the occasional rice cake.

chinook · 06/10/2010 11:26

Strange morning here. Ds has been asleep for nearly 2 hours now. His normal morning nap is more like 20 mins. Long may it continue.....

Must admit we have some pouches in the cupboard. Ds really likes the fruit purees but isn't so keen (understandably I think) on savoury ones. You all sound so organised with food. I look at what we are having, then if that isn't suitable I defrost a couple of cubes to give him. If he doesn't fancy that I will desperately look round the kitchen to see what else I can chuck at him. Toast, bagels, cheese straws, fruit, raisins etc. He doesn't seem to like to eat loads of one thing so we tend to eat up with a discarded food mountain at the end of each meal. No chance of keeping him clean either IC

Other than that we are settling into life with our new school run incorporating routine. To those of you looking at schools for next year all I would say is don't overlook the importance of location. It is a journey you will make hundreds of times so a short walkable one is much better. We are fortunate that dd'd school is OFSTED rated as outstanding and only a 4 minute walk away. It is a really small cosy school which I think is great at this age.

Had some friends round for a takeaway the other night and had my first alcohol since before I conceived ds. What a lightweight I was. Had such a furry mouth the next day after only 2 glasses of pink fizz.

Better go and check on ds. He is downstairs in the pram with the rain cover still on!

Love to all, and stop scaring me with this talk of christmas....

mamaloco · 06/10/2010 11:58

chinook I concur with the distance to school being very important. It let you and DC do important things after school adn some time before. It is always better to walk too.
IC I am +2, I probably would have won if I had post straight away at 5h30 for me this morning Wink.

BG sunny Thanks for the threads I have been looking too, but the post between romania and Uk is not great. I know what I want exist till 3 yo (should be big enough!), just not here right now. (don't want to spend 50 £ Shock on uggs either)

IC banana is impossible to get off clothes. I don't know why but it actually get worse when you wash it, it gets all brown and even bleach or sunshine doesn't do it Confused. If I had time I would look at the chemical reaction involved [geek emoticon]!
DD2 is a mess after eating too Blush.

I don't do jars often. It costs a fortune here (almost 2 £ for a 8 mo jar) and there is very little variety, maily carots, potatoes and chicken.
I have one of those plunger to whisk the puree/soup/compote, with a special attachment to mince the meat.
1/4 of a minced steack/breast will last almost a month in the freezer. A teaspoon is put for 10 sec in the microwave when needed.
15/20 min in a small pan is enough to cook 2/3 vegetables if you start with kettled boiled water. (will last a week, 5 days in the fridge because no meat)
It is even shorter for fruits 5 min enough.
Plus couscous, frozen cut spinash, left over purees if too much was done for the week... as emergencies.
Soon eggs and after 1 yo canned fishes.
When we have fish she has flakes for 1 or 2 meal.

I "cook" for DD2 a max of 4 times/week often only 2 (one sweet one savoury) and add the frozen meat/yogurt/fish and the starch at the last min.

mamaloco · 06/10/2010 12:02

Forgot to mention to stan I was raised on out of date jars from nestle Shock enough to get me thrown away from MN! Your are a good mummy, there is no slum/shame in not doing your own. The baby "meals" on the market nowadays are so controled, balanced and thought that they are probably healthier than most homemade things as most parents don't now the right porportions to give for babies (even when you know it is not that easy to follow).

BabyGiraffes · 06/10/2010 12:30

How about colour coordinating food with clothes? Feed pasta bake with tomato sauce when the LO is wearing a red top? Joking of course. Grin I was wondering why I had only a few clothes left over from dd1 for age 6 to 12 months and I have just realised why!! I must have thrown away/recycled a lot of those with such bad stains that I certainly couldn't keep them for a second baby.

I have tricked my little darling the past few days at lunchtime. She had worked out, at the age of 8 months, that if she made a fuss over lunch I would give her yoghurt or fruit instead because I wanted her to eat something. Clever little thing. So I turned the tables on her and gave her desert first... Grin It's worked! She now happily has her lunch followed by fruit or yoghurt.

mamaloco · 06/10/2010 14:11

Blush sorry about all the mistakes, missing letters and words Confused

GuernseyFrench · 06/10/2010 19:05

BG I like the colour coordination.

IC my night nappies are bulky too.

I don't have too much stained clothes (touch wood) but my bibs will definitely only do one baby! Smile

I do batch cooking and use the pressure cooker (it cut time by 1/2 at least), then use the masher and
then freeze individual portions and just take one of the freezer every night for the day after. I also cook a bit more of our meals and either give it to DS the day after or portioned it and freeze. (My freezer is full of baby pots!) But I also feed DS of jars when we are out or on holidays as they make life so much easier when on the run. I also use fruit compotes from the shop for his desert.

bearcrumble · 06/10/2010 21:22

Yeah I have loads of stained clothes now - agree that plum and banana are buggers to get off.

I have 'eating clothes' - some hand-me downs etc. Bibs are an issue because he tries to eat them! Seriously - he will grab the bottom of the bib and stuff it in his mouth. He's quite a messy eater as well.

This evening he was really hungry and had two pouches. (Stangirl I am the same as you but I've bought a mini blender off ebay to get me to cook more for him).

He actually had homemade lunch today and yesterday - chicken and veg with a bit of pear to sweeten it. Then he had two horrible watery poos today and I thought I'd poisoned him but the most recent one was nice and solid.

What do you do to keep them interested in eating after they've lost concentration? I had him in the highchair with the laptop in front of him playing old 80s pop videos (he likes Word Up by Cameo best - he does a little dance in his chair) and me waving toys/giving him rice cakes to hold and slipping in a spoonful of food when I can.

Tonight we reached a new low and I actually put the opening of the pouch (you know they have a sort of nozzle thing) into his mouth and squeezed it (gently!) straight into him.

I have a few DVDs now - one with bagpuss/clangers/trumpton which he doesn't really like (although I do) one In The Night Garden which he quite likes and one of the Wiggles which I think is his favourite.

Sleep is still much improved. He has only needed getting out of the cotbed and feeding once or twice a night since we started him in it. Last night was not so good because the cat was mewing and fussing all night until I threw her out in the rain.
