IC loved the thought of the olive oil poo - we have had apple-smelling poos, which arte much nicer than those smelling of broccoli! Have just done a batch of smoked haddock with sweet potato and sweetcorn for tomorrow.

BG hope you have recovered from the voms. I've definitely been there with that kind of scenario - I tend to turn the radio volume up and drive like the clappers! I also have a vom cleaning up kit in my car (wipes, muslin etc)

BG hope your LO gets better soon. That doesn't sound like fun.

Everyone else hope you're all OK.

Oh, wine o'clock, hoorah!

stoofadoof · 14/09/2010 19:33

non-specific viral rash? DS, not me.. urgh

need sleep

and a job

not necessarily in that order!

nite all! x

BabyGiraffes · 14/09/2010 20:34

Grrrr... dh has finished off the Rioja while I gave dd1 a bath and dried her hair. Not appreciated! Angry

ClimberChick · 15/09/2010 04:15

I'm so sorry BG, but that also made me laugh. Make sure DH replaces the wine plus some cake for the inconvenience caused. Thanks for the compliment about the clip [proud mother emoticon] though she's still doing the half knee/half foot thing.

We're back at getting her to go to sleep in the cot. A bit of bouncing first to calm her and a few PU/PDs (though today twice with no PU/PD). She's really in a lot of pain though Sad. Maxing out on both baby ibuprofen and calpol as otherwise she's really upset. Hope the poor little mite is better soon. DH is not use to the lack of sleep. It ends up as me dealing with until 3am and which point we switch.

Beth - any results yet from the nite?

stoof - {{{hugs}}}

fizi: worried about co-sleeping as when she's unsettled DH goes to sleep elsewhere. I'm now paranoid that she'll crawl off the bed, so DH has been staying put. As for other children. I don't want to have one while I'm in the US (would actually like some half decent maternity leave). Realistically that means DD will be 4 before I'm somewhere else and qualify. Just really not sure I can deal with that gap. Of course, that's far off in the future and I'm sure if I get broody there will be no stopping us.

Any tips on making on porridge quickly. Keen to start giving her some breakfast now. Have some oats in, no instant stuff.

IC - sorry I've lost the link to your blog again, pretty pleaseSmile

mamaloco · 15/09/2010 07:53

Sorry BG, for the incidents and the wine...

CC I would be worried about co-sleeping too, DD2 moves a lot (it is an understatement! Grin), she is safer in her cot, and I have more sleep. How do you sleep with a LO crawling, kicking, rolling and flipping in her sleep?

But then I am a light sleeper, I co-slept wit both DDs while BF and didn't get a lot of sleep even then!

My late FIL let the oats soak overnight then microwaved it twice (can't remember the time so you might have to twick) but the 5 min standing in the middle was necessary somehow.

stoof

rainbow ? was it you asking about peeing on cue? I wanted to try but never got to it as I can't see any cue from DD2 that she is about to do something, and don't have much spare time with DD1. She is also too heavy for me to carry all the time.

IC It is not that hard for me, with DD1 being a very mature 5.5 now. Nothing like having a toddler and a baby.

DD2 tooth should be OK (or will die if pulp damaged) so young, the root is not completely grown yet so any damage should regenerate. It seems to reset itself in the right position, if she doesn't bite on anything too hard within the next few weeks (or fall again on it Hmm).

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2010 09:28

mamaloco good news on the tooth!

mamaloco · 15/09/2010 10:06

BG impressed with the talking as well. Not sure sure about the german being easier, the ones I know were quite late talking (multilingual environment though).

For those worrying about some stage of developments, please don't. DD1 missed several key stages (the ones written in the red book) and they vary country to country. In danemark drooling is one key Grin that means that the saliva glands have developped!
She is a normal (if stubborn) little girl. Smile She never looked at her hands, cried when I left the room, copied noise, dropped things on purpose...

DD2 cut herself in the shop, I don't know where she didn't cry, probably at the cashier display Angry which she can reach and due to narrowness, I can't move her away from it.
Realised when her yellow doll turned orange Hmm Sad.
she is fine just a finger tip cut, but I am a bit worried it will get infected with all the crawling and the finger getting everywhere. She now has found the bins and the toilet ggaaaaaahhhh
She keep falling too, she really think she can stand whitout holding and walk unaided Hmm. I don't know how to stop her or even if I should, but there is a lot of bumping head and crying in this house Sad

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2010 10:12

CC not trying to alarm you, but do you actually mean 'frozen' chewing teddy/ring? I have some of those but the packaging states only to cool them in the fridge and never ever freeze them because children can literally get frostbite on their gums otherwise.

mamaloco poor little dd2 and poor you! I have a friend who's dd always thought she was at least a year older than she really was. She's now caught up with herself a bit at 3 but still thinks she's about 5... Hard work!

Smelly bottom alert so much go...

mamaloco · 15/09/2010 10:49

Thanks BG I have plenty of practice with DD1 thinking she was 21 yo at 21 mo Grin
Still think she is much older than she is. TBH she is very mature and it is difficult to remember that they are still little at 5 Confused.

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2010 11:23

dd2 is very clingy today due to her cold and teething and I have just relented and given her nurofen (she screams blue murder at the sight of calpol). I tend to be a bit mean with medication... I thought I could get lots done with dd1 now in nursery but find I have a little monkey wrapped around me shouting for Mama as soon as I put her down (sounds cute but is impossible to ignore when she addresses me directly like that). Not easy to get anything done! Ah well, the kitchen floor can wait and accumulate more food splodges... Wink

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2010 11:38

Just put myself and then myself and baby on the scale and dd2 appears to be 9 kg (19.8 lbs). No wonder I get breathless carrying her around (although the latter is more a reflection on me being pretty unfit)

ClimberChick · 15/09/2010 18:23

don't worry BG, it is a freezer one. We've tested it ourselves quite a few times as well.

has bear been around lately?

BabyGiraffes · 15/09/2010 18:48

CC ahh, I am relieved Smile. Hope her first teeth come through soon so you get a few weeks rest! Smile

ClimberChick · 15/09/2010 19:04

sorry mamloco forgot to answer you. For the most part she's in her cot, so don't have the deal with the feet/bum that inevitably find their way into my neck/face. It's towards the end of the night that I pop her in, if she doesn't go to sleep straight away.

Though occasionally I put her in the bed from the get go (and chuck DH out) as I want to be close to her (if I've been working late) Blush

chinook · 15/09/2010 19:20

Big day for us today as dd started school. Where does the time go to? She looked so grown up in her uniform and thankfully loved it. Of course ds didn't nap for long so I hardly had time to start the list of chores I have been putting off for 7 months. 'I will do that when dd starts school' has been my response to most things for ages now!

Ds is having a teething frenzy with 2 appearing in the last 3 days. One is at the top which is where I expected it, but the other is at the bottom, which is completely out of sequence. Hope the others come quickly or he will look odd with 3 at the bottom.

Other than that life is ticking on as normal here. Weaning is going ok, he has discovered a love of blueberries. I am impressed he has the skill to pick one up and get it in his mouth by himself at this age. Sleeping is still hit and miss. Well mainly miss really, especially evenings. He won't be shush patted back to sleep any more and just arches his face and body away when I try to do it. PUPD doesn't work either as he carries on crying when I pick him up and tries to find my breast. I am at a loss as to what to try next. Any suggestions gratefully received.....

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/09/2010 19:42

Aw, stoof - get well soon x

Ah, teething CC, mamaloco, BG... it still hasn't hit us here, but I can clearly see the two bottom teeth poised below her gum. Just as sleep was improving a bit, too

Naps are up the bliddy Swanee, though - 3 today totalling 1hr20 of sleep. Result - a pissy, grizzly baby by teatime. Tomorrow I'm going to walk her in the pram for however long it takes to help her get some reasonable daytime snoozing in... I'm getting to know that stretch of street very well (thank goodness the weather here is mostly dry...)

Re the feed-to-sleep addiction, chinook - I'm afraid we went cold turkey and DD is now put down awake at bedtime. I had to endure a fair amount of protesting, but no actual hysterical meltdown crying (I had more of that when I was doing PU/PD, Ssh/pat, PPO etc.) and within three days, she was self-settling.
She still wakes at night, but less than she was and she mostly goes back down to sleep more readily after a feed. Also, if I ignore her, she will go back to sleep without my help, it depends on how long I'm willing to let her fidget for...

Now I wish she'd do it for naps, but they are far tougher to crack... Can't have everything, I s'pose.

Last night was okay - one more wake-up than usual and she felt a bit hot, which may have been why (the imms, probably), but she went back down quickly and easily, thankfully.

Night All!

Argh, i have an interview date which is right in the middle of our walking holiday in the Lake District... What to do? Is is possible to drive 290 miles home the night before and then 290 miles back up to Keswick after the interview??? Shock

bethylou · 15/09/2010 22:22

Off on holiday tomorrow for the week (thank goodness) and don't know whether I'll get on here during that time or not. Unfortunately DS2 has decided to go into competition with BG's girls re sick and I'm concerned for the carpets in the holiday cottage. I've also got a urine infection again but on antibiotics now so hopefully okay. Nothing a bi of seawater won't fix!! DS2 also has a temp tonight of 38.8 so guessing we'll be up a fair bit. No news re any further tests yet.

Off to bed after pureeing DS2's holiday food till midnight last night - can't give him ready made as it makes the vomiting worse. Sorry for lack of inidividual replies tonight. Hugs to all.

bethylou · 15/09/2010 22:26

Oh yes.. and to leave you on tenterhooks for up to a week..

I have a twitch (I presume) in my stomach muscle. I've had two periods recently so fairly sure I'm not pregnant but as it's been going on a for a couple of days now I am actually going to do a pregnancy test tomorrow morning to check out the ridiculously small chance that I could possibly be expecting an unplanned DC3! Please hope for me that I am not as it might just finish me off right now!!!

stoofadoof · 16/09/2010 06:40

oh bethy fingers crossed!

BG how blimmin typical! can they change the interview date for you?

chinook DS now has three teeth at the bottom and none at the top - looks odd! no sign of the top two as yet, though there is another making its way through at the bottom? DD's all came through in the order they were supposed to?

IC i used to battle with DD for about 40 minutes to get her to nap in her cot for 25 minutes? i gave up at about 7 months and started putting her in her pushchair - either back and forwards over the slate floor for a bit of bumpiness, or post lunchtime i would take her out for an hours walk. When she got to about 14 months she asked if she could nap in her cot, and by about 16 months (once she started walking) started having 1.5 hours after lunchtime, happily drifting off to sleep by herself in her cot. oh that was marvellous indeed? sadly she dropped any daytime nap when she got to two!!! urgh

DS much better now, though still rashy? though i was up for two hours last night with DD - for no apparent reason, which was somewhat frustrating.

well? best go - the place i'm temping is sending me to work in whitehaven today, so i've got a good couple of hours driving, instead of the 5 minutes it takes me for my usual base :( and i wont get to see the rugrats tonight?. grump

GuernseyFrench · 16/09/2010 06:59

bethy have a good holidays and let's hope the twitch is linked to your infection.

BG I think it all depends how much you want this job. Alternatively, can't you call them snd see if you can change the date?

We can see his 1st tooth now, it's at the bottom and it's tiny. Last night was very restfull, as my mum is over and she dealt with the night shift. I got up at 6 and took DS downstair to play like this she can have a few hours sleep.DS is getting a bit better less wheezy but with a very blocked nose.

IC 1h20 nap sleep is what DS does in a good day (20mnx3) A few days ago his only nap was from 11am to 11.40am so I can understand your pain.

BabyGiraffes · 16/09/2010 14:52

bethylou the thought of dealing with two small children and early pregnancy makes me feel a bit faint! Shock. Keeping my fingers crossed you are okay... Enjoy your holiday!

BabyGiraffes · 16/09/2010 19:04

We have toys randomly springing to life in the middle of the night, those with batteries that play songs etc... It really spooked dh last night and he went to check the entire house. Do you think we have a playful ghost? Grin

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/09/2010 19:25

Oh, BG, how infuriating - my answer to your question is yes, it is possible, but a BIG BUMMER!
Grin at your possessed toys! Reminds me of the film, Poltergeist....eek...

Have a lovely holiday, bethylou - and here's hoping you get the result you want...

Thanks for the napping reassurance, chinook and GF - I feel less distraught about the situation now. I put DD in her pram to nap as her bed is a total no-no and not worth the effort. DD will nod off okay in a moving pram, so I think I will just have to pursue your policy, chinook.

At last! I can see the top edge of DD's first tooth starting to push through... haven't had to use any painkillers for it yet, but have some Dentinox at the ready just in case.

OP posts:
ClimberChick · 16/09/2010 20:43

IC our LO is still not napping greatly, between 60 and 90mins in total a day.
