I like pootling. I think dd pootles, althogh she does dance from side to side occasionally.

Sure you know what I mean. I think it's the mischieviousness in your posts that comes across when you talk about your boys.

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 16:03

LOL Fennel! Ideals and parenting - yeah, mine aren't as untarnished as they were before I became a mum!

MrsD - DS lives up to his trousers, that's for sure (he has two pairs with monkey written on them ) - I'd not noticed that I spoke of him specifically as a mischief, but yes, my boy knows the meaning of the word cheeky! LOL!

hewlettsdaughter · 29/09/2005 16:39

My dd is cheeky, definitely. Nice to hear your news, MrsD! You sound pleased to be having a boy - your dh too (lol re the bear!).

Hunkermunker, how far on are you now? (sorry if I've asked before, but I can't keep the info in my head).

I can't believe Chuffed is travelling round Europe with an eighteen month-old and a 24-week pregnancy (respect, Chuffed!). That's kind of how I'd like to be but am not

Fennel · 29/09/2005 16:42

HD yes I thought I would be like that too. sigh. i bought the lonely planet Travel with children all ready for our exciting adventures. it gathers dust on a shelf now.

we did go to Oz and Hong Kong with 10 monther and pregnant but it wasn't as adventurous as trekking through eastern europe.

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 16:42

HD, I'm 24 weeks - was quite convinced I was 25, but have recalculated and have to do week 24 again I'm so dopey! And I admire Chuffed enormously too!

Just thought of something else DS does - he mimics fizzy drinks being opened...it's one of the funniest thing he can hear! "Tss"

His signing's coming on really well - he's picking them up at a rate of knots now too. And his speech too - it's lovely to see/hear!

hewlettsdaughter · 29/09/2005 16:51

"Tss"

The onset of language is great, isn't it. We're only at the start of it with dd but I loved it when ds started coming out with words, and then, later, sentences. Have discovered dd's "bub" is her version of her brother's name, as well as her word for 'bubble' - sweet!

hewlettsdaughter · 29/09/2005 16:55

Fennel - Oz and Hong Kong with a bump and a little one's pretty impressive - the most I've done since having children is go to Centerparcs, Ireland and Spain.

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 16:55

It's incredible how they acquire language - did some study into it at university, so am truly fascinated by it.

And boy, does he understand everything we say...!

His favourite things to say atm are "Oh, dear" and "uh-oh"!!

Oh, and he's scared of leaves. But he will touch enormous spiders (I'm talking three-inch-long ones ). To say he's eccentric would be an understatement, but he's SO cute!

hewlettsdaughter · 29/09/2005 16:56

hunkermunker, what did you study? I did English Language & Literature, studies it a bit too.

hewlettsdaughter · 29/09/2005 16:56

studied, I mean

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 16:58

Philosophy and Science - I did a philosophy of language unit. Thought The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker was really interesting (though a bit controversial!).

hewlettsdaughter · 29/09/2005 17:00

I haven't read that. Our local university is running a study on language acquisition at the mo - I have emailed to offer dd as a subject!

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 17:00

Oh, wow! That sounds like fun!

hewlettsdaughter · 29/09/2005 17:02

Currently they want 18 month olds who aren't saying much - then they'll study them again at four to see if they've caught up with their peers.

Better go, am ignoring the children

dolbear · 29/09/2005 17:03

ds also a dancer - in a stompy fashion
cos dh electronic engineer ds has lots of ' toys ' to play with and will no longer b fobbed of with 'pretend' items
fab name - like it a lot - funny things names - I wanted something which was not in the bible i.e paul - john etc - more tricky than you think i was gonna exclude saints names also , too impossible
my B/Friend is lurking on the PG threads somewhere - she was due on sat 24th and is tuck - this is not encouraging me 2 take the plunge again - oh the memorys - did like the story of 1 lady jumping of her kids tramoline 2 hurry things along - v funny pccy in head

TracyK · 29/09/2005 17:53

You chatty lot!
dh is away sailing so had to tell u ladies - ds has just picked up a 3 way extension plug socket thingy and put it to his ear like a phone and walking around with it saying 'Hiya' so cute my boy!

MrsDoolittle · 29/09/2005 18:05

I know Tracy. We use the remote controls, the control for the electric blanket (?), calculators...
It's the eye-rolling and the quiet chuckle to the person on the other end that makes me laugh.

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 18:49

Dolbear, DS also has "real" things - an old phone (non-cordless, big buttons - he loves it!), an old mobile phone, etc. He's totally fascinated by buses, helicopters and aeroplanes atm - practically yodels when he sees them! Oh, and he managed to cut and paste my recycle bin on the computer somehow too - strange technological child

TK, how sweet! I dread to think what habits DS will mimic of mine though - eek!

dot1 · 29/09/2005 21:27

Mrs D - how exciting!!! Fab news and scans are always soooooo exciting - one of the things I wish would happen again (if only that could happen but just not everything else - you know, labour, birth, babies..!! ).

I'm just so in love with ds2 at the moment! Keep waiting for him to turn into a stroppy toddler, but not much sign yet - he's still a real baby at heart, which I'm enjoying a lot! Millions of words and songs and lots of dancing, and mini sentences which is fun. He also brings out the fun side of ds1 which is brilliant (or the violent side, depending on how tired they both are..!).

LucyJones · 29/09/2005 21:29

wow MrsD - congratulations boys are the best

LucyJones · 29/09/2005 21:31

oh and hi Dot

dolbear · 30/09/2005 09:01

yes , sorry dot - hi and congrats of course !!! 9 wouldtry and do a sheepish face ut ist never quite works for me ! ah well
yes , its not that he puts the phone to his ear and talks to it - its that fact that he laughs at the other persons jokes that makes me laugh , caught him trying to feed his cuddly elmo a dohnut Y/day !! is obsessed with trailers - connected trains/ carrages etc

dot1 · 30/09/2005 10:14

ooh - now I'm confused - people are saying hello, sorry and congratulations to me - do you know something I don't?! Definitely no exciting news here... A friend of ours is expecting her 3rd baby in a few weeks, and all I can think of is all the downsides to having a 3rd! (Sorry Fennel!!!). It's weird getting used to being OK about not having any more babies though - I've been desperate to have children for so long it's strange not having that feeling any more - I almost feel guilty for not wanting any more!

dolbear · 30/09/2005 18:49

oh soooo sorry , I meant mrs D ! serves me right for having a conversation with dh , listening to ds and trying to type raaaaaa

Fennel · 30/09/2005 19:38

hi dot! always good to know we as a family are a walking contraception aid

actually my 3 have been lovely the last few weeks. since school started back. I think school and nursery really suit my kids. (or they suit me and DP anyway). it's been quite delightful around us lately.
