Sadly we all got the sicky bug from dd, although I was affected at the other end rather than actually being sick. DS1 threw up in the night Sunday night (although we didn't hear him cry or anything, so the first we knew was when I went into his room on monday morning and found him lying in the remains of the previous night's dinner that had come back up), and Jeremy started throwing up overnight on Sunday and I'm not sure if he's stopped yet or not, but has certainly managed to keep down the last couple of feeds so far.
I asked dh not to go to Greece on Monday, but he went anyway, and promptly threw up on the plane.

Hope all those colds clear up soon.

Filly - I meant to say well done for feeding on the train. :)

:( for Edgar's jabs.

Apols filly I didn't mean to insinuate that you are judgey it's just that I wish I could be more like you so it's more me tutting at myself!! You always seem so organised & sure of yourself which I wish I could be. I don't understand how I can be so organised at work but a total disaster when it comes to my own home/kids.

Hope all those that have been ill are on the mend now.

whenwillisleepagain · 20/10/2010 22:55

just catching up... really good to see you on the thread, WDMFG and I too am in awe of you

Sleep is still not great here, but a little better - have been working on a theory that Alice might have been cold, so got her in a thicker sleeping bag at night. Weirdly though I seem to have moved into a phase where Alice just seems easy and part of the family and I can sort of focus on some other members of it (not to mention the retiling of my leaky shower - don't get me started, as it prevented me getting to the London meet-up).

My 89 year old dad has been almost immobile for a few days and in a lot of discomfort - my mum thought his prostate cancer might have spread to his bones - I thought she was being overanxious, but it turns out that his GP is thinking this too - thankfully he's a bit better today and has good pain relief. This has kind of confirmed me in my thoughts though that I want to stay on mat leave for as long as possible so I can support my parents. As I work for a Primary Care Trust which the government abolished about two weeks after I had Alice, I may find myself on perpetual mat leave, just with no mat pay and no additonal babies.

I finished reading the BLW book - been giving Alice licks of apple but she's not showing any signs of reaching out for food, so I was going to stick with the 26 week guidance unless she makes a grab for something. Actually I am vaguely obsessing that she should be better at grabbing stuff generally (she was 5 months yesterday) but I recall from DS that this milestones business is a dangerous path to go down.

Right, I must go to bed - sorry that some of you have been bug-ridden

dinosaurinmybelly · 20/10/2010 23:03

Hello all I lost you for a while there and only just had time to go through the lists and find you. Lovely pictures of the meet up and what delicious babies. I sm loving that Zoe is getting some meat on her bones now and entering what I call the chookie phase when they are just so squeezable but not yet on the move.
I'm interest to learn more about BLW and have ordered the Gill Rapley book. Zoe is definitely interested now at 20 weeks, there is no mistaking it.

It does sound like most babies are giving us a bit of a hard time at this stage on the feeding though. I am up twice a night feeing Zoe and am wondering if this is just a phase. I hope it is. Can't remember now who mentioned but it is also hurting ne a bit feeding on my right side. I think maybe my hold is different on that side and her current incessant feeding is taking it's toll.
Well dine LaTrucha on the potty training. I was 2 yr 8 mtgs before DS1 was interested and when the time was right it clicked easily. My MIL claims that DH was trained at 18mths and so I had a full year of pressure to get it done which I wish I had ignored. Will certainly wait with DS2 who has just turned 2 and the talk has already started.

Serious kudos to you filly on feeding on the tube. I am a lot more relaxed about it now with baby no.3 but would never have though of doing it on the tube - maybe I will now!

Hope those of you with colds are on the mend soon. Lovely to catch up with you all

Elena67 · 21/10/2010 12:05

Earlyonemorning I also cried when I read about Edgar's jabs and the loss of innocence but Tom had his 3rd jabs today and he cried briefly but had a quick feed and was his normal laughing self by the time we left the surgery. God bless calpol! I hope that cheers up anyone else facing their jabs Smile

latrucha · 21/10/2010 18:08

We've got jabs next week and our phase ofwonderful sleeping has passed too. He's waking up twice now. He's also wanting to be held a lot more aqnd is less happy to be put down so life is a bit more complicated. Sometimes I feel like I'm running from one person shouting at me to another although most of the time is pretty good.

DD is on her second accident free day and there's only an hour or so until bedtime Smile

Ghostfillybusters · 21/10/2010 18:56

Mia had her 3rd jabs yesterday, and I felt like earlyonemorning, especially as she crumpled after the first jab (from beautiful smiles) then rallied and tried to grin again, just in time for number 2. And the 3rd one? Well, you could probably hear her from a couple of miles away, she was so Angry and Shock :(

And then she was utterly miserable and out of sorts all day :( :( Thankfully she seems to have regained her general good-mood-ness today but I felt like she might never trust me again Hmm

Ghostfillybusters · 21/10/2010 18:59

Sorry, meant to say "welcome back DIMB, sorry you missed the meetup" and "sod the milestones WWISA, every baby is different, as you know!" :)

FWIW, DD1 didn't walk until 22 months - so I know very well the anxiety of 'should' and 'book says' etc. She didn't even stand until 20 months, and used to scream when we tried to encourage her.

And neither of my big dcs crawled before 12 motnhs....

MrsAlwaysRight · 21/10/2010 19:48

Hi Ladies. Not much to report here. Alice started rolling 2 weeks ago and pretty much hasn't stopped. Haven't started weaning yet - will play it by ear and see when she appears to be ready.

Had coil fitted last week so no more babies planned for the time being. Not feeling quite so broody at the mo mainly to do with DD1 being quite challenging. Never had the "terrible two's" so recent tantrums/answering back etc a bit of a shock!

Hope everyone who is poorly gets better soon.

greensnail · 21/10/2010 20:54

MrsAlwaysRight I can't believe your DD1 would be anything less than charming. You'd better send her round here to do some more washing up Wink

Sorry to hear about your Dad WWISA. Glad to hear the pain relief is working though.

Alice is starting to make a bit of progress with the BLW which is quite exciting. She managed to grab a bit of pasta yesterday and bring it to her mouth although it was dropped before she managed to get it into her mouth. She seemed to really enjoy sucking the sauce off her fingers though. Today we had a similar incident with some potato. DD1 seems very keen for Alice to start eating and spends a lot of time during meals putting food from her plate in front of Alice for her to try. Luckily she hasn't tried to actually put the food into her mouth for her yet.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/10/2010 21:10

I do wish that people would stop saying that their baby's sleeping has gone tits up and they are now waking twice a night. We have never woken only twice a night. Hmm

Now J is pretty much better he has reverted to screaming every second that he isn't being held and given full attention. Is getting quite wearing tbh, esp today when I only got 3 hrs sleep last night due to ds1 being hysterical all night on top of ds2's feeding.

Oh LaT that describes my Jack to a T! I've had to have him in the sling most of the day - from such a happy little chappie he has become a grumble monster....crying, cranky and clingy!
I fear the 19 week/4 month sleep regression has hit us big style. From going happily to bed, self soothing and waking just shy of 7am, last night we were up for about 4 hours straight.
Strangely, my Jack felt aftereffects from his 4 month jabs, whereas there were no problems after the first two....we're on a medical trial for reducing jabs (NOT testing new drugs!), so Jack only had 2 this time, but he has to have a blood test next month (But we do have magic cream for that!)

latrucha · 21/10/2010 21:49

BraveGirl - Daniel just wants me to play with him! Why do I have to have such active children. Hmm

CSWS - take it with a pinch of salt. We don't even try to put Daniel to bed until 10 / 11pm.

CSWS - waking twice would be considered a very good night here too. But I've decided to stop talking about sleep so that's all i'm saying!

Was supposed to be exchanging contracts on the new house today but there appear to be some complications holding it up, which is very annoying.

earlyonemorning yes - it sounds the same trial - reducing the number of childhood vaccines (Oxford Vaccine Group) - I guess you're in a different group to us though as we only has 2 jabs at 4 months, missing the MenC!
Only 1hour50 minutes of being awake last night - but I was at least mentally prepared for it!!!

goodname · 23/10/2010 15:27

CSWS I know what you mean, i am so so happy if fergus wakes 3 times a night (last night) rather than 10 (night before). He is better at going down early now though (8ish).
He was great with his jabs this time, smiled through first 2, cried a little at last one. He screamed through the last 2 lots thought.

He seems to be going through a lovely easy going happy stage just now, through the day at least, and is laughing loads. Speaking of milestones, fergus is 21 weeks and has not even come close to trying to roll yet. Is that normal?
Slightly scared to mention this but started him on food this week and he loves it. Just had 2 meals so far, sweet pot and banana and he loved it. No spitting it out or confusion, just devoured it and was rather put out when it was finished.

greensnail · 23/10/2010 19:52

hi goodname - I'd been wondering where you were! Alice doesn't seem interested in rolling either. DD1 rolled once about this age just to show she could and then never bothered again for months, until she started rolling to get around the room (she was a late crawler).

Tried Alice in the door bouncer today, which was a bit of a revelation. DD1 used to just stand in it, chew it a bit, and slowly revolve but Alice knew exactly what to do and had a great time bouncing up and down.

justbeme · 23/10/2010 19:57

Goodname, the longer they stay immobile the better in my opinion!!
A is 19 weeks and has been rolling for a few weeks now, but "weeks" is such a small time frame, I really wouldn't worry.

I too have started A on a TINY bit of food. I noticed in both my older DC's baby books that I kept, that they both started food at 18 weeks. (and my eldest is 15 with no allergies etc). But A doesn't seem to get the hang of it as much as the girls did!! So that sounds like Fergus was really ready for it!!

Quick silly question - do you all still top and tail your babies? A is too wriggly to hold near the sink in the bathroom and I just wondered how you washed them when it's not bath night?? (You'd think I'd know after 3 wouldn't you??!)

greensnail · 23/10/2010 20:14

justbeme - I just lie her on the changing mat or in my lap and use a flannel.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/10/2010 21:13

Every night is bath night here justbeme! Have never topped and tailed any of my 3!

Just popping in quickly to say 'hello' and also 'goodbye' - we're off to somewhere near Malaga for a week on Tuesday morning (self-catering and unheated pool, and the forecast isn't looking so grest - so don't be too jealous!!) so I'll be offline for a while :) Am very excited about going away - a week spent cooking, cleaning and looking after DCs somewhere else is still definitely a break!
Fingers crossed we'll get a bit of sunshine, although the end of October isn't a great time to go away and the forecast is for a fair bit of rain....Hmm Never mind, I have bought loads of crafty stuff to take with and the rental people have promised to leave a playmat and chair for Mia.

We tried the Bumbo yesterday...she likes it, but doesn't have quite enough neck control to spend long in it yet. A few more weeks, I think - she's only 17.5 weeks now - althoug I think DD1 was in it by this stage.

No rolling here, either. But I don't expect any movement before 12 months, or walking before 18 mo, earliest!

Mia has now figured out that if she yells when we leave her alone, she stands a good chance of getting some company again Hmm Hey ho, at least she doesn't expect to be picked up every time she shouts - she's happy if one of the dcs goes to chat to her! :)

Hope you all have a good half term week :)
