Nizzy is bfing possible in one of those? Could be what I need for wedding next week....

WWISA - DS was 99th centile for weight at birth and dropped to 25th...I was always told by HVs and GP that this was entirely fine as he was happy and alert and clearly feeding well and that he was just naturally a long, slim baby/child. They said that in my area (N London) they only get worried when babies drop below 6th centile - does that help? If you feel that everything is fine, then keep going - you really do know best. Please don't let yourself be pressured into something that doesn't feel right, especially if it risks messing up your nicely established bf-ing.

NizzyNoodles · 14/08/2010 22:13

Filly I would imagine you could bf as it's designed for you to wear your own bra. On me the front comes up to the bottom of my bra and the straps are quite wide so it could be possible. I'm not a bfing expert though. Maybe order one to try and return it if it's not quite right??

madamefreckle · 14/08/2010 22:14

Dream-feeders... how do you go about waking up your babies? I never go to bed before 11 anyway and I think I'd get a lot more sleep if I introduced a dream feed. I tried last night but she was having none of it so I just let her go back to sleep. She then woke at 2 and 5 which is pretty normal for her.

Barbeasty · 15/08/2010 07:18

We took Ruth to mass for the first time yesterday evening, and she was very good. It was right through the point where she starts her mammoth evening feed, so I had 2 bottles I'd expressed. We got through the first bottle ok, had a bit of a break and then started on the second. Eventually she got tired and started to drop off. We'd just got to the end, where the priest was reading the notices when..... Ruth managed the biggest projectile vomit I have ever seen! Blush It went all over the floor, my leg, DH; thankfully it missed the people in front by about an inch! I don't know how so much liquid could come out of someone that size.

Of course, then she fell right back to sleep and looked like an angel as we were leaving.

BraveGirl · 15/08/2010 08:11

May i join?
Jack James born 8th June (due 2nd June) weighing 6lb 10oz.

Still bf over here, but DH did his first night feed last night at 0315. Why is it I was wide awake the entire time???

Have read that some of you lucky folks are no longer getting up in the night. I thought JJ was nearly there when he started sleeping from 8pm until almost 2am, then again until 6amish, but that's all gone to pot in the last few days when he's been waking as early as 11pm. Grrr! Is it just luck or can you give those of us who are still sleep deprived any tips?!

Got an appointment with a PT at the gym on tuesday to start to shift my C-section shelf without resorting to a tummy tuck!

BraveGirl · 16/08/2010 01:32

Ta! Apols, was only tipped off about mumsnet 2 weeks ago, and have been working my way round since!!! :)

poguemahone · 16/08/2010 04:32

Hello BraveGirl and congratulations! Might it be a growth spurt? Magnus (also born 8th June) was going for 6-8hrs at night then out of the blue at 7 wks needed a feed every 2 hours for about a week. Then abruptly back to 6-8hrs again, thank goodness.

Thanks Nizzy!. I already have a Spanx (s/pl?) but things are so desperate I might get one of those too and wear them both together;)

madamefreckle I've never properly woken Magnus for a dream feed, just squeezed a bit of milk onto his mouth to get him to latch on. (Doesn't always work, though.)

mampam · 16/08/2010 12:10

CSWS Jeremy's not the only one who doesn't like the car (or maybe the car seat), put Tilly's name down on the list too!!

She has to be extremely happy prior to getting in ie just been fed! If she starts crying then she doesn't stop and gets herself into a real state.......screaming and sweating. We have to put her into her seat at the last second before leaving the house and then strap her in really quickly and set off as fast as we can before she realises what is going on Confused. It's a bit of a pain as everything from where we live is miles away so can't avoid long journeys.

I'm pleased to report that Tilly is now sleeping through the night Smile from about 8.30pm until 8am. The weird thing is that I now feel more tired Hmm, I'm not used to all this sleep I guess with not sleeping properly for the last 5 months of my pregnancy and being up in the night til now.

Tilly has thrown up all of her feeds this morning so far.......she's puked on everything! Anyone else have days like this? I shouldn't be worried should I?

MonkeyMargot · 16/08/2010 13:35

well done tilly on your good sleeping!

DD had a vomit/diarrhoea bug over the weekend which I seem to have started with in the night. Lots of trips to the loo all night at both ends so am having a day in bed today, just feeding the babies and then snoozing when they do (DD with nanny on mondays).

welcome bravegirl and congrats. Is this your first?
Once you know they can go for e.g. 6 hours between feeds, they always revert back to it eventually. I use the dummy to resettle them in the night if I know they aren't really hungry which seems to work.

woofie · 16/08/2010 17:40

bravegirl and poguemahone- interesting that the 8th June babes seem to have been following a similar pattern! Laurie was waking twice a night for feeds, which I thought was very reasonable, but has been needing to feed every couple of hours at nigh between 7 and 9 weeks... Yaaawn. However he was a long scrawny baby and is now plumping out, so I guess it's worth it! Touch wood seems to be settling a bit now. He's lovely and smiley in the day, which makes up for it. He's also going 4-5 days between poos- I know this I'd normal for bf babies, but seems to cause him some discomfort in the 24 hours before nappygeddon... Anyone else experiencing this? Took him swimming every day on a little holiday in Northumberland last week Smile

Not managing to post much with 2 dss at home for the long summer holiday, but it's interesting reading about everyone's experiences.

madamefreckle · 16/08/2010 22:15

Mampam - That's great about Tilly's sleeping! I think we are a very long way from achieving that! Emma will usually manage a stretch of 5 hours and a couple of 3 hours and I'm feeling quite perky. Strange how you feel more tired now than you did before. I remember those days before having children when I'd sleep until midday sometimes at the weekend and then feel exhausted for the rest of the day. If you don't get much sleep then your brain never shuts down completely and it's easier to wake up if you see what I mean and vice versa.

Welcome and congratulations bravegirl

Hope you feel better MonkeyMargot

BraveGirl · 17/08/2010 04:47

Thanks for the super welcome! monkeymargot - yes he's number one!
It's really reassuring to hear that other June 8th babes are doing the same! JJ woke at 11 tonight, but reswaddling and dummy kept him going until just gone midnight - shame as i was aiming for 1am!!
Tilly sounds fine...wouldn't worry too much unless she has temperature/nappy issue!?

whenwillisleepagain · 17/08/2010 09:16

hi bravegirl and welcome. I discovered MN when my son was a few months old. Came on because of sleep worries, hence my nickname (and the fact my mum told me around that time that it doesn't matter if your child is at home or has moved away as an adult, you never sleep as well again due to worrying about something to do with them).

monkey sorry to hear about the bug, hope it passes soon

thanks for all the reassuring comments re Alice's weight and those growth charts. Went to bf support yesterday, and saw the mw who runs it (she is attached to children's centre). She is a pleasant person but one of her gems was that expressing is good because you can see how much milk your baby is getting. I did tackle her on it, and she immediately agreed that it's no guide at all because the baby is so much more efficient at getting milk out and then went on to say that pumping dries up your milk supply (which I have never heard before). I'd forgotten how bf makes me want to write a book on all the conflicting and dubious advice one gets from the very people who are meant to help. Grr, off to GP at 11 to follow up from my HV encounter last week. And it's Alice 12 week immunisations, she was sorry for herself after the 8 week lot, so anticipating a quiet day at home with lots of cuddles. DS is at nursery, so if I get on with my chores now, I can watch lots of the West Wing on DVD.

AlwaysHopeful · 17/08/2010 12:30

Pogue yes, thanks, I got a great dress from Milk Bug in bright red. It made me feel great and it got lots of complements. Ordered a couple from them and returned the one I liked less for a couple of quid postage which was far easier than hunting through the shops. Will post a photo of me and George in our wedding outfits when I have two hands free.

Got to go... back soon!

latrucha · 17/08/2010 14:52

I'm glad I'm not the only one up in the night lots of times Smile and [yawn]. I thnk Daniel has trouble sleepign flat and have bought some bed blocks. We haven't put up his cot yet so he is still in with me and sleeps a lot of times in the crook of my arm or on my chest.

Any ideas about propping him up safely in bed? (We can't put up the cot yet for various tedious logisitcal reasons). I'm guessing not but would be glad to hear...

DD is being a bit jealous of me at the moment. She thinks D is wonderful but is also wants me to herself. I ave to keep reminding myself what a shift it is for her.

I also caught myself out blaming her for things and remembered that old chestnut about the oldest child getting the roughest deal, so am trying to take it easy on her. She is still a baby herself after all.

OOO! I had my first smile a couple of days ago. It's BLISS isn't it?

OneBabyPlease · 17/08/2010 22:40

Hi again all
DS is now 9.5 wks, through the night he initially sleeps for about 5 hours then wakes every 1-2 hours, usually anytime between 10pm-10am ish! So I am managing to get a fair bit of sleep, just wish it wasn't so broken! DS sleeps in a moses basket (reckon we can squeeze about another 2 wks out of it before it's too small!) but usually ends up in with us in the mornings as he won't settle back to sleep otherwise. He too sleeps in the crook of my arm as DH is a heavy sleeper & thrashes around a bit so I'm conscious of keeping him out of DHs way!
Hope everyone else is doing well xx

fillybuster · 18/08/2010 13:53

Thanks for the dress link - I've just bought the same one in black for my cousin's wedding on the bank holiday weekend: my aunt did that whole "well, I suppose you could feed the baby in the loos" thing Angry and looked shocked when I said I would sit quietly in the corner but would not be feeding in the toilets...!!!

Welcome back LaT :) How's S's scald mark doing now?

Getting a reasonable amount of sleep here now, although still doing a little bit of settling in the night, but no feeding - just wish I was better at getting to bed at a sensible time!

Welcome bravegirl :)

madamefreckle · 18/08/2010 15:11

Emma had her first jabs this morning and has just screamed for 2 minutes, sleptfor 2, screamed for 2, slept for 2 ever since. She won't feed, i can't put her down as she works herself into a frenzy and she's not liking the sling. My arms are SO tired! Sad

latrucha · 18/08/2010 15:39

madame freckle - bouncing chair? My sympathies to you.

Filly - thanks for asking. You can't see the mark on her arm any more and I think the one on her tummy will fade. The memory, however, is fresh. She talks about it every single time she wakes up and tells every single person she meets, every time she meets them including shop assitants and people on public transport who say hello to her. We would never get away with any child abuse here!

If any of you are contemplating the late purchase of a bouncy chair, can I say the BabyBjorn is fantastic. Daniel regularly is bounced to sleep in his and loves the vantage point it gives him to look around him. We bought ours second hand but I can certainly say that this is one thing that it would be worth even spending the full price on.

minimoonumbertwo · 18/08/2010 17:04

oh no madame i hope things have improved a little by now?? Small comfort but at least you know why she's upset & it's not totally random. Also i think you can give calpol after 8 weeks?? Might be 12...

Had my last full day of just Seb today before ds1 starts doing every morning at nursery as opposed to 3 full days, went to westfield to get some jeans and can i just say what an amazing shopping centre it is for babies!! Fab family rooms where you can heat bottles & private little rooms with comfy chairs for feeding - just brilliant. I even managed to get myself some decent jeans which just about fit! happiness all round.

hello bravegirl, sounds like you're doing really well.

Ooh my sil had a baby yesterday, so weird to think our little ones aren't newborns any more!

MonkeyMargot · 18/08/2010 21:22

madameF poor little mite - hope she's settled a bit now.
Congrats minimoon on your successful Westfield shop! It is a good place to go with a baby, easy to get to and/or park; good feeding rooms and ample space.

Filly - am still shocked when I hear of the previous generation suggest we should BF out of sight. hope you feel proud to do so in your fab new dress at the wedding and have a great time to boot.

Thanks for well wishes - DD and me now better - the twins now have galloping diarrohea. Hoping we don't have a bad night with it as things have been going so well. They are settling really well now for naps and bedtime and last night made it from 7pm - 6am - so almost a full sleep through! They are such good boys - much, much easier to deal with than my DD at the minute, who I think is displaying clear signs of having her nose put out of joint.

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/08/2010 21:33

mampam - that's not such good news that Tilly hates the car seat too - I was hoping that Jeremy would grow out of it before he reaches her age!

Welcome bravegirl :).

LaT - my way of propping ds up in bed is to lay him across my tummy or chest. Possibly not the suggestion you were hoping for Grin.

We had J's scan for his heart murmur yesterday. Apparently the hole in his heart is about 2mm, and should close by itself some time over the next 20 years Hmm. He needs to have another scan next year, and then shouldn't need checking until he's 5. No restrictions on what he can do until then because of it, so quite good news really.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 18/08/2010 21:35

Shock that you only class 7pm-6am as almost a full sleep through margot. My dd was at least 3 before she slept for that long!!!

OP posts:
latrucha · 18/08/2010 22:03

That's good news CSWS. He usually does sleep on my chest or in the crook of my arm. I don't mind it much BUT we have been lent an Amby nest so we'll give that a whirl. I'll let you know how we get on.

Mampam - that IS sleeping through!

Hello Bravegirl Smile
