Hello aubergines - your post did appear, think the thread is moving so fast that things are getting missed

MrJustAbout · 11/05/2010 22:41

that was badly worded - Sarah Teather is an option. Susan kramer would have been an option had she not lost her seat.

onebatmother · 11/05/2010 22:41

I've not given this enough thought.

nearlytoolate · 11/05/2010 22:42

Lenin, who, where? And WHAT ABOUT GOVE - his pic was on the news so he must be in the cabinet...

Avocadoes · 11/05/2010 22:42

Quattro - that's the strength of the current House of Lords. Lots of members with real experience outside (eg Lord Darzi when he was health minister, Lord West in defence). I totally agree that a cereer in party politics is not good preparation as such people forget about the real world and are indoctrinated as real party tribalists. In their world beating the other parties is much more important than the practical effects of changes on the ground.

No please not Gove, Osbourne is bad enough but Gove as well?

He did say he would give up his cabinet post to ensure the coalition (was Education shadow minister)

nearlytoolate · 11/05/2010 22:43

Both Tories and Libdems are not serious about diversity and equality of opportunity imo. In that sense it is all rather depressing.

Just posted on the NO PR or the BNP will get into parliament thread.

FGS. Inform yourselves first before posting such rot.

nearlytoolate · 11/05/2010 22:46

Yes agree if the deal does not include PR then I am very very depressed.

Avocadoes · 11/05/2010 22:46

Auberginesrus - I used to be Aubergines so I hope you don't get confused for me (just because it wld be misleading).

animula · 11/05/2010 22:46

Don't see how it could over-ride VONC - would bring actual government to a standstill, surely?

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 22:47

Yes. Quattro, you put it better than I did.

nearlytoolate · 11/05/2010 22:47

MmeLindt who should inform themselves?
(I thought we were doing rather well on that score...)

onebatmother · 11/05/2010 22:47

Can some kind person explain the basics re fixed term?

Downsides: a guarantee that a govt with a teeny majority can stumble onwards regardless?
Upsides: What nearlytoolate said about economic manipulation and.. ?

Apparently it's been on DC's agenda for over a year

Avocadoes - I think I already did

May have to consider another vegetable based name but aubergines are my very favourite

Sorry everyone OT

Beachcomber · 11/05/2010 22:48

Gosh this is moving fast - Laura says 'this is actually going to happen' in incredulous tones about Clegg as deputy PM. Well!

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 22:48

Oh, just noticed we have two new posters of a vegetable persuasion. Confusing. Aubergines are my favourite veg, btw.

Ok. Going to bed now. I am sharing veg preference. I must be too tired to carry on this conversation.

MrJustAbout · 11/05/2010 22:49

I think it's largley that the lib dems aren't big enough with 35-odd surviving MPs - although Teather is amongst the few name-able lib dems of the past term.

Cameron, for all his faults, at least tried with the A-list. It was entertaining to see them lose but it makes the parliamentary party even more white, male and straight.

Warsi? As a token she meets several criteria.

thetoriesaretoast · 11/05/2010 22:50

Hello, can I join the wake party for a minute? Have made cocoa if anyone fancies some (to soothe lump in throat). Glued to telly all night while simultaneously trying to do DS's French homework. Have only just seen little Brownettes in those gorgeous jackets.

Hated seeing the Hammies outside no. 10 but confess to feeling sorry for SamHam having to stand there like a spare part while pregnant. Couldn't someone have given her a chair?

CaptainNancy · 11/05/2010 22:50

Mme- I favour single, transferrable veg....
