Politics

The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

giveitago;

My dh has a well paid job and my parents help me out if I need anything.

I know I am lucky in that respect.....although my husband isn't earning half the money he was earning 2 yrs ago, and no sign of things picking up yet...

Still, I've always wanted to live like the Amish.

and that is the reason why your strategy is completely unworkable, porto. the standard response IF YOU KNOW IT'S A TROLL is to ignore and report, but dp's posts always leave room for plausibility as well as being controversialist enough to attract the attention of new posters. there will never come a time where no one will respond to her, unless you have a great big sticky at the top of the site saying 'ignore daftpunk'. and clearly that's not going to happen.

anyway, the standard response in any case is to ignore and report so that MNHQ will do something about the persistent troll, that's the stage we're at here... it's an MNHQ problem.

Because it is all part of her nonsense to keep us all guessing and talking about her. If she was really upset about this situation she would disappear, I know I would, I would keep a very low profile and probably name change through sheer horror and embarassment at myself.

But not DP. Always there to with a silly answer to pop the thread right back into active convo's.

posieparker · 13/05/2010 10:08

From an MNHQ point of view, I would think, her posts and topics are damaging to the forum as a whole. The vitriol that she conjures in other posters, the thread titles and the general nastiness of it all make MN a lesser place for all.

ladylush · 13/05/2010 10:28

Mixed race children? Really? Are you telling me DP has mixed race children?

posieparker · 13/05/2010 10:31

Her husband's grandfather was black, although she didn't know that when they met, she has hastily pointed out.

ladylush · 13/05/2010 10:42

@ condemnation

But re dp - have heard it all now. That is just fucked up.

giveitago · 13/05/2010 14:55

Are you sure that's true? So she supports a view that doesn't support the very existance of her own kids?

Well, bloody heard it all now.

But is it true?

I hope she doesn't spout this stuff to her kids - what an earth does her partner think of her politics.

Nope, irony abounds.

DP has a right to be wrong.

No, you're not the only one Harpy

ladylush · 13/05/2010 17:43

Problem is, she insults pretty much everyone. Consequently most of us are impassioned.

daftpunk · 14/05/2010 09:38

TSH, LM.....thank you..

(Porto...I am having withdrawl symptoms over FF.....damn thing, I loved & hated it at the same time...)

ShriekingHarpy, are you trying to say that those of us not affected personally by DP's insulting comments have no right or purpose in standing up for those who do?

I mean, the insults are silly, but I cans ee why they happen. I don't think it is wrong to be impassioned on behalf of other people.

ConDemNation · 14/05/2010 09:46

those who are, sorry

ladylush · 14/05/2010 09:56

I have a Black dh and two mixed race children. I think I've been very civil........considering. But as condemnation points out, people who are not directly affected have every right to comment/be "impassioned". Or would you rather be part of a society that stands back and watches whilst already marginalised groups in society are insulted and discriminated against?

claig · 14/05/2010 09:59

daftpunk, have a go at the "Try the Political Compass Test" thread. It is an online test that takes about 5 minutes and says how left, right etc. you are. It would be interesting to see what you get.
