The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

Look, AW, perhaps you haven't seen the many posts I have written against her, perhaps you haven't the threads about other things when she has tried to direct something nice my way and I have refused based upon the views she holds that I, fundamentally, disagree with, perhaps you think anything you say makes any difference?

One thing I know is that no matter how vile the crap she spouts is is that the pack against her (myself included) comes off looking horrible. From now on I am going to try and ignore her because even a racist, homophobic disabilist is a human being and I for one feel uncomfortable joining in and watching everyone turn on her.

TheSteelFairy2 · 12/05/2010 18:30

I honestly see what you are saying PP, I really do and I have thought this myself a few times today.

I have left the other thread because I said what I needed to, to her and there is nothing else left to say, I wouldn't want to keep on going over the same ground, trying to make her pay.

To be fair though she brings it on herself, she really does, she waits till it all dies down a bit and then comes back on with another woe is me prod and everyone gets all riled up again.

Me? I think she could do with talking to someone outside of MN and exploring her issues a little.

AndieWalsh · 12/05/2010 18:31

That's your call.

Personally, I don't feel uncomfortable challenging her hateful views. If she prefers not to be challenged, she can switch off her computer.

tweetymum · 12/05/2010 18:44

DP, I hope you're glad. Thanks to your wonderful BNP and its intimidating thugs, DH and I decided to leave the UK. The NHS has lost a trained psychotherapist, and a university has lost a very well reputed environmental scientist. That's a lot of taxes and contributions to the economy lost too.

Plus, we have encouraged friends to follow us and I know of at least 2 families who are planning to emigrate as they feel that they can no longer live in a society where racism is being dragged into the mainstream through parties like yours.

Be happy!

Aitch · 12/05/2010 19:08

posie there is a reason for the title of that thread... the first one was deleted.

posieparker · 12/05/2010 19:14

Even if she is terrible, which she is, it's not what MN is about. She'll never change and people like Leningrad try to talk to her....it feels quite wrong. My comments are more about how we act not whether her feelings are hurt, but what she does to us, it's quite controlling really. If MN were my children I would be telling them to leave the nasty girl alone as they wouldn't want to stoop to her level and I think DP does that everytime, she gets perfectly nice women to act spitefully.

Aitch · 12/05/2010 19:18

she's a troll, posie, it should be dealt with under the mnhq troll policy. we shouldn't have to do anything. but for the record, no, ignoring doesn't work. there are about five newbs on this and the new thread, all arguing vociferously... there will always be fresh blood to be hurt and offended by her, that's what she relies on.

Portofino · 12/05/2010 19:20

Wouldn't it be more effective to just ignore anything she posts?

Aitch · 12/05/2010 19:22

no. next question.

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 19:22

posie

as aitch said the thread is a follow on for the original vile thread.

The second one which has been linked represented a slight change in tack to a 'I just don't really understand..' type thing.

The fisrt thread was bad.
I did what you have suggested and stopped engaging.
But we keep losing nice posters.
It has all become out of kilter

posieparker · 12/05/2010 19:24

Fair enough.

dawntigga · 12/05/2010 20:01

Sorry, but you can't ignore opinions like that, leaving them without refute gives them more validity than exposing them to the oxygen of research and facts, in which they wither.

Won'tLetThatKindOfThingGoTiggaxx

Portofino · 12/05/2010 20:17

No but we have a choice between fanning oxygen over the bollocks flames or completely ignoring it. If it got no attention at all......

To me, all that is needed is a brief "Feck off you bigot" and leave it at that. Surely better than 1000 posts of arguments.

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 21:10

That would just get deleted, Porto.

I don't know about genuine BNP type threads, free speech is important and debate can be had with some people who believe that shit.

But what DP does isn't within the parameters of a level playing field. the manipulative techniques she uses are textbook. If you read up on passive aggression, it's all there.

It's not something that's easy to negate or deal with in the context of a multi user forum, without appropriate training - which is why it has had such a profound effect.

The usual thing is making people frustrated, angry, upset, without ever losing it or appearing to be aggressive oneself. Thus escaping blame - well, evading blame is more accurate. Very slippery.

Read about PA - it's very interesting.

ConDemNation · 12/05/2010 21:15

here

Aitch · 12/05/2010 21:39

so you would do this how, porto? you would post feck off you bigot, how would you get everyone else to join you? would you start a thread saying 'hey everyone, next time dp posts just say feck off you bigot and then she'll go away?' cos if not, how are you going to rally people to your cause?

as it happens, i did used to post TROLL and then leave it, and it was interesting to note that a few others would follow. what dp would then do would be to post something offensive and personal to a previous poster so that they would have to respond. so your plan might sound like the sensible thing to do, but it's completely, utterly unworkable. so what to do?

Portofino · 12/05/2010 22:49

Why is it unworkable. Just don't respond!

Portofino · 12/05/2010 22:52

I don't HAVE a cause. Standard troll response. ignore/hide thread.

toccatanfudge · 12/05/2010 22:53

now porto you know how difficult it is for someone of us to not respond.............

toccatanfudge · 12/05/2010 22:53

and now now girls - this is EXACTLY what the BNP want - people, normal, nice people to start bickering amongst themselves............

Portofino · 12/05/2010 22:55

Well some of you are just bloody minded

toccatanfudge · 12/05/2010 22:56

speak for yourself missus

Aitch · 12/05/2010 23:19

was i not clear, porto? i don't think your 'just don't respond' is workable on a forum with so many posters, unless you actively start campaigning so that everyone knows to do it. do you think it#s workable? how so? please explain.

giveitago · 12/05/2010 23:21

DP - just trawled through - cannot find your response to my questions eg - how do you support yourself -do you have a dp or are you supported by the state? Degrees are expensive these days and I'm interested to know how you can do a degree and not work and look after a child or two?

I can barely afford to look after ds with my dh.

Portofino · 12/05/2010 23:53

Why should I campaign against a thread? Wouldn't that be a thread about a thread and therefore be frowned upon?

The standard "Troll" response is ignore/report. So everyone knows the poster and doesn't like the message so why spend 400 odd messages giving her attention?
