The dust has almost settled. My assessment of how the BNP performed.

Ok, they didn't make the political breakthrough I'd hoped for, but if you look at the results they are actually very encouraging.

The BNP got 563,743 votes (dispite only fighting half of all the available 650 seats)

They got 10% of the vote. That is pretty amazing for a small party, and under proportional representation those votes would result in seats.

NC will merge with someone (eventually?) and as one of his main aims is to push through PR it's all good for the BNP.

What do these results mean for the BNP ?

The tripling of the BNP vote on May 6th has some important implications.

Firstly, where they went head to head with UKIP and the Greens they thrashed them, they overtook UKIP in 178 seats, and UKIP have far more money than the BNP, and of course UKIP and the Greens are favoured by the media.

Secondly, while all minority parties were pushed to the edge by the bigger parties, the BNP's vote not only help up, but proportionally increased when compared to their June 2009 Euro election results.

The BNP are here to stay, and although the election was a disappointment in some respests, it was a clear sign that 1000's of people up and down the country support the policies of the BNP.

And let's not forget, political pundits had all but written off the Labour party after they lost the 92'election....

They went on to win 3 elections.

Economic Left/Right: -6.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.92
Bottom Left Quadrant

Think this means I am a Liberal Leftist ie a typical Guardian Reader .

daftpunk · 14/05/2010 10:46

Tnog..I've always got on ok with you, as far as I'm concerned anyway, and I always take the time to read your posts...(I might not always reply because time isn't always on my side, and if I rush too much, even I can't understand what I'm saying)

I did read your post, and probably agree with most of it...I appreciate honesty..even if it hurts a bit...

OP posts:
claig · 14/05/2010 10:48

Daftpunk. A little poem for you....You used to know a girl whose nickname rhymed with pistol. This girl could not take the attack, the attack, couldn't stand the verabal flak and flak...But I'm here now, to stop your verbal beating, on a page like this we will keep on meeting

daftpunk · 14/05/2010 17:43

Ahhh...pistol..

OP posts:
claig · 14/05/2010 17:44

interesting , that probably puts you in the middle of the left authoritarian camp, more left wing than Labour but less authoritarian than them.

daftpunk · 14/05/2010 18:01

There you go y'see.....I'd make a brilliant politician....

OP posts:
mycounty · 14/05/2010 19:04

Thinks...DP, may have under estimated her, probably high ranking in another party, just posts here for a laugh.

ImSoNotTelling · 14/05/2010 19:24

Um

Is this a music thread?

daftpunk · 14/05/2010 19:28

lol pistol..I'm really Clare Short..

Too much time on my hands since I told Tony where to stick my letter of resignation...

OP posts:
daftpunk · 14/05/2010 19:32

No it isn't....but it's a thread I started...
I'm just finishing off...

& Don't worry...I'm sticking to my word...not going near any other threads....

OP posts:
mycounty · 14/05/2010 19:35

LOL Daftpunk, no you're not Claire Short, she was plain and wore no make-up. No I see you as more glam than that, I'll have to google the most glam politician or politicians wife and keep you posted, after East Enders.

mycounty · 14/05/2010 19:39

Why are you not going near other threads, evryyone's got an opinion and yours is as valid an anyone else. I posted about Cameron, some think him the new Blair and so do I, he sold his party down the river, and has lost grass root support (I'm happy with that, as they will now probably vote UKIP).

claig · 14/05/2010 20:00

Ages ago I think I was reading a thread where DP said that she was in the Socialist Workers' Party when she was younger. I think she's got a foot in every camp.

daftpunk · 14/05/2010 20:05

Actually..I look abit hippy, not really glam, but I get by...ha ha

I have photos on my profile....but I warn you..if you look you'll be in love forever.

Did you see the "Ban the pro-BNP threads" on site stuff..?

It got very heated and there was alot of anger....some of it directed at my posts...I read 85% of it and took a decision to stay off all threads for a while (apart from music ones)...I want to keep the peace and if my posts are causing so much controversy I think it's best for MN..I'm sure MNHQ could do with a break too...can finally take their finger off the "delete post" button for a few months.

I am passionate about politics, all politics...could talk about if forever, but the election is over now and I think we all need a break...I will miss the politics section, and in the news,...but not alot else if I'm honest...talking about pink ponies doesn't really light my fire.

Plus I think people need a rest from me, get me out of their minds...alot of threads became all about me, and not because that's what I wanted...it just happened..?

The Frankie Boyle thread was a classic example...I didn't post on it until about pg)10...quite a few people had said they found him funny etc etc, as soon as I said it all attention turned on me....hopefully that will stop if we all have a break from each other..

Yep..I was Labour, never denied it.
