I followed the link from his blog here

AppleTreeWick · 11/05/2010 16:55

Wow this thread moves fast. Right I am now going to cycle home...therefore there will be a major announcement within the next 45 minutes (I cycle veeery slowly not a long way) OK and start stopwatch now

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 16:56

ok. Going back to my ironing board, camera close by to catch the bird.

jennylindinha · 11/05/2010 16:58

Be careful on your bike AppleTree - I was nearly knocked off mine this morning by some idiot who decided to overtake me and turn left. Had to slam on the brakes and my shoulders and neck are quite sore now!

ImSoNotTelling · 11/05/2010 17:01

"We've just heard that a meeting of Conservative MPs will take place tonight at 2000 BST."

Why can't the British do urbane well? I'm trying to think of someone British and urbane - Nigel Hawthorne in Yes, Minister? But I need someone a)current and b)not ficticious.

thetoriesaretoast · 11/05/2010 17:05

I don't think we trust urbane in the UK, Hassled, so they probably deliberately don't cultivate it.

policywonk · 11/05/2010 17:05

eek Jenny, sounds scary

toast, it is BRILLIANT isn't it. Impossible not to come out of it with a giant crush on Desmoulins. Will refrain from discussing further until you've finished it but there's a BIG twist at the end!

LOL and at the difference btw Fras Nelson's prediction and the one I reported. Everything Everybody Knows Is Wrong.

Hassled · 11/05/2010 17:05

Justa - do you mean she of the electronic French pop duo? Or she someone else?

MrJustAbout · 11/05/2010 17:05

I saw that ... rev.

ApuskiDusky · 11/05/2010 17:07

Just popping in from Lib Dem thread, thought you might be interested in this - sums up what I was curious about, re why Cameron was offering so much to the Lib Dems.

Hassled · 11/05/2010 17:08

1704 A senior Lib Dem source says talks with Labour were "amicable, but problems remain on deliverability and Labour cohesion". Meanwhile, Labour sources say the Lib Dems wanted unaffordable commitments on tax and spending, reports the BBC's political editor Nick Robinson.

jennylindinha · 11/05/2010 17:10

PW - it was! Some drivers are awful.

Like the sound of the book you mention, will have to get hold of it. Might take my mind of all this hung parliament malarky...

Nymphadora · 11/05/2010 17:12

Isnt deputy PM a bit of a non job? They are v rarely seen (unless the punch someone)

Hassled · 11/05/2010 17:12

Apuski - thanks for that. I love "Has anyone asked Margaret what she thinks? I shudder to imagine her answer."
Poor, poor Margaret .

thetoriesaretoast · 11/05/2010 17:12

Desmoulins absolutely charismatic. Always wonder who would play him in the film. But I love Danton too (Depardieu in Eighties film)

LadyBlaBlah · 11/05/2010 17:13

LOL @ Operation Save Dave

He will be regretting that backing from Murdoch pretty soon.....I would guess that M is seriously pissed off at his poor performance..........

As Obama said: "Lightweight"

I feel strangely fine about all this. I think they are gonna fuck it up ham style

Nymph - I'm following you on Twitter now

Hassled · 11/05/2010 17:20

Oh my dear God. I just found the BNP thread - that poor bloody brand new poster who stumbled across that. And all the lies, damn lies and statistics. She's resilient.

policywonk · 11/05/2010 17:21

Thanks Apuski. at 'a muppet could have added 4%' and ''has anyone asked Margaret what she thinks?' Interesting also about 'Californi-cation' - hadn't realised this was a strategy - explains why Arnold was so quick to offer his congrats on election night I suppose.

Jenny, it's really v good but enormous and I found the only way to read it was to attack it in great chunks - read it on holiday last summer. Have found the same with Wolf Hall.

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/05/2010 17:21

That's one word for her, Hassled!

theyoungvisiter · 11/05/2010 17:21

Operation Save Dave!!!

Bless. Like a little endangered seal or something. Is there a badge? With, perhaps, his face looking wistful and a slogan saying something like "Please act now to stop the clubbing of innocent Tory leaders."

Cor, I'd forgotten the joys of Tory infighting.

[rubs hands]

onebatmother · 11/05/2010 17:21

Matthew Taylor from the Royal Society (ex-policy adviser) is very sexy urbane.

When I meet urbane men my voice rises an octave and I flap my hands a lot in a Sue Pollard stylee.
