Coin - that's what worries me - if all they've got is a referendum on AV, I see no hope for electoral reform. The media frenzy over just 5 days will have been enough to convince people that hung parliaments are Terrible Things to be avoided at all costs, and with the govt essentially campaigning against it, rather than producing a bill, I think it's screwed.

taffetacat · 11/05/2010 21:33

Evil Tory DH and I are watching Jaws 3 - it somehow seemed appropriate

He did like the comment about Nick's jiggling up and down with his massive hard on

Ewe · 11/05/2010 21:33

"Take a long hard look at ourselves"

You can't use Labour slogans against us, s'not fair!

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 21:34

onebat, you know the thing i've never ever understood? why is it either (state) or (individual). surely state needs to support individual right? and as individual's we need to support each other through the state?

Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 21:34

sorry now not only for fuck off to getorf but also for absolutely appalling grammar which will have pedant's corner imploding.

MrJustAbout · 11/05/2010 21:34

Onebat

The statements here didn't say that not every lib dem is a closet tory. In fact, they said the opposite.

That's insulting and wrong. I'll be bad tempered in response to an insult and doublespeak doesn't change it.

I voted Labour and would do so again. I wish they'd had the guts to fight for a coalition and to acknoweldge that they need to make common cause with PC and the SNP. However, but they couldn't be bothered. If they had, we could be in a different position tonight.

TheStraitsofWTF · 11/05/2010 21:35

I thought the Lib/Lab talks were looking dead ion the water before the resignation - lots of talk on BBC of frosty and hostile.

theyoungvisiter · 11/05/2010 21:35

Crikey MrJusta - what's eating you? Just seen your post from earlier.

Think you are being a leetle harsh. What "shit", pray tell?

I think we've been fairly amicable considering most of us found out that the party we voted for is now out of power for the foreseeable.

policywonk · 11/05/2010 21:35

Diane Abbott pointing out that Parliament is going to really matter now for the first time in ages - good. Hope the coalition agreement includes something about altering the way Parliamentary committees are chosen, that's a big one - not glamorous but significant.

AppleTreeWick · 11/05/2010 21:36

How about Her Majesties feckin Opposition?

Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 21:36

proles, it's not the unhappiness with a tory pm, so much as the accusations of libdem = rightwing...and absolute loyalty to people (blair/brown) that have absolutely shafted labour, and the public.

i'm hoping bob marshall and roy hattersley fuck off and form new party. i'd vote for them.

onebatmother · 11/05/2010 21:36

I still think that a minority Tory govt might have been the least-worst outcome - at leaset, I think I do. Argh. Sooner out, and they would still have been heavily - perhaps even more heavily - restrained by necessity of gathering support from all around, on a nightly basis.

Whereas now we may well have 4 years of it, and there is soo much that can be hacked to death in 4 years - with a sweetener tax cut just in time for a general election for all those people who don't, for eg, need surestart or ctc or 15 hours free nursery care.

AppleTreeWick · 11/05/2010 21:37

Sorry I've been in and out I was taking a long hard look at myself and byw I am looking good laydees

take some painkillers mrJ

ZephirineDrouhin · 11/05/2010 21:38

Here's a tweet from Jeremy Hardy to cheer you up:

Nick Clegg, you really are an insipid bastard. I hope you enjoy the midnight wanking contests in the dorm with your new chums.

DavidHameron · 11/05/2010 21:39

I agree with onebat

Still hoping Tories choose to go it alone.

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 21:39

MrJ
Not really sure that I understand you now, tbh.

MrJustAbout · 11/05/2010 21:39

youngvisitor -

it's the three posters on a previous page - including onebat - who made claims to the effect that all lib dem voters are merely closet tories without the guts to come out.
