Cat, that's something I've been wondering. Do people want PR because they support the LibDems or do they support the LibDems because they want PR? Chicken and egg (but no ham).

They showed that clip of him whalloping the egg thrower on TV last night. I could watch it again and again. DH was in stitches.

On the AV topic, it sounds similar to the way votes are counted in Australia (apologies if someone has already pointed this out). It seems to work ok, but is balanced by having an upper house elected via PR. It's a more straightforward way of having constituency MPs and a system that takes all votes as being equal.

The downside is that fringe parties, like Family First, are more likely to gain a senate seat and, in the event that the upper house is hung, which it often is, can effectively block the progression of bills through a whole parliamentary term.

Who thought it would be a good idea to include Letwin in the negotiations?

also great negotiating tip is to ask people to explain their opponents point of view

it can help everyone feel "heard" without them feeling they have to do all the talkie talkie point scoring (think wonk)

Think I agree with you Len. Suspect Clegg would be toast under that scenario though.
