Reasons to be cheerful?

thetoriesaretoast · 08/05/2010 19:46

It's a grim time for lefties, but I really need a bright side.
So for starters:

  1. At least the papers aren't full of smug Tories
  2. We'll never have to see Thatcher on telly again
  3. I sense a new spirit of solidarity emerging

Anything else? C'mon, chaps, let's be positive!

The 'squatter' front page on the Sun made me smile.

What's up with the tories?

thetoriesaretoast · 08/05/2010 19:50

What's up with them? How long have you got? Off out now but am happy to deliver 10-page essay on the subject later

I'd be happy to read it, with references please.

legoStuckinmyHoover · 08/05/2010 20:36

thetoriesaretoast, good thread, here is another;

Tories no longer feel ashamed or embarrassed to admit they are in fact tories so it makes it easier to avoid them when you are out and about..

crystal123 · 08/05/2010 20:37

Reasons to be cheerful. UKIP polled 900,000 votes and caused a hung parliament!

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 08/05/2010 20:52

I really don't get what's wrong with the Conservatives?

thetoriesaretoast · 09/05/2010 00:14

Okay belledechocolate, I will reduce it to the very simple terms in which my DH explained it to DCs: they look after the people at the top, while Labour look after the people at the bottom. Nuff said.
Oh dear, Lego, I'm getting depressed again. Hard to avoid them at all where I live.

legoStuckinmyHoover · 09/05/2010 00:24

oh dear, sorry to hear that. have you not thought of any more reasons?

Ninjacat · 09/05/2010 00:28

Music and art should improve.

Give us something to rile against. Billy Brag has already been spotted on the streets

Still can't forgive Labour for creating the conditions that spawned Coldplay.

Ninja, Billy Bragg is always a good reason to be cheerful. Coldplay, absolutely, and look how bad the telly's been since Labour got in. Maybe we'll get some decent drama again.

Labour looks after people at the botto m? Are you serious? So child poverty hasn't increased since they took over then? So more children are not leaving primary school unable to read or write then? So there's not less health visitors? So binge drinking hasn't risen? So the introduction of 24 hour drinking/lapse gambling/the shite intduction of PFI schools/hospitals was a really good idea? So the removal of the assisted places scheme for children was a good idea? So the removal of special schools was a good idea? So food prices havn't risen?

Where exactly are you getting your facts from?

scoutliam · 09/05/2010 00:38

Gordon Brown is still pm.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 09/05/2010 00:39

Is that a reason to be chearful or slash your wrists/arrange emigration?

thetoriesaretoast, better TV?

Yer kidding right? Them Tories are going to decimate the BBC, SO where would we get fair, impartial, thoughtprovoking news from, pray? Fox UK?

scoutliam · 09/05/2010 00:41

That is very much a reason to be cheerful.
Hamboy can't get his grubby little hands on the economy for a while yet, if ever.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 09/05/2010 00:42

Where did you read that tweetymum? In The Sun/Daily Mail?

I know Tweety, but I was remembering all the brill drama from the 80s, Boys from the Blackstuff, GBH etc.

TV's crap on most of the channels to be honest. The BBC could do with a cattle prod up the arse, there's only so many property/auction programmes a person can watch.

I really don't get why you lot are so anti conservatives. I know Maggie was slightly bonkers, it doesn't mean everyone else is though.

tweetymum · 09/05/2010 00:49

From the Telegraph, actually. I don't read those other miserable excuses for 'news'papers.

thetoriesaretoast · 09/05/2010 00:49

And even if there's a Con/Lib coalition they'd have to ditch Osborne. There was a great line about him on the News Quiz today - 'They should let him become chancellor; his family could afford to pay off the national debt.'

tweetymum · 09/05/2010 00:50

And Belle, trust me, TV is not crap in the UK. Try the endless cable chasing out here in North America, it'll suddenly make you appreciate the BBC a heck of a lot more.
