Pondering, and while slightly more optimistic than we once were, still really quite unhappy Lefty thread

Where had we got to? We'd agreed that we all love Cameron, right?

Oh BIWI

Fingers xed for your DH.

policywonk · 10/05/2010 17:48

Apparently Adam Boulton is visibly furious and going MENTAL at Campbell, ha ha

Keln Livinstone saying D Mil is candidate of the right, Balls or Ed M candidate of the left

redrosette · 10/05/2010 17:49

I'm pleased that the lib/con discussions appear to have failed. I wanted a lab/lib coalition.

I'm sad that GB is leaving although he didn't really have any choice. I believe he is a good man, a lot has been achieved thanks to his chancellorship/premiership. and the way the right wing media have treated him, its just disgusting. Now he and sarah and the boys can hopefully get some peace.

TDiddy · 10/05/2010 17:49

I sort of feel that we have now fully heralded the age of young good looking politicians...we over look Vince Cable, ditched William Hague, rejected the "follically" challenged Kinnock and now we have Nick, Dave and Dave (Milliband). I like all three of them but a bit fascist. And look at the way the press demonises and overlooks Harriet Harmann.

Nymphadora · 10/05/2010 17:49

Interesting but I love Hammy getting shafted!

Happy GB stays for a bit but hoping liblab doesn't take too much flak

policywonk · 10/05/2010 17:50

Even if you don't think LibLab is a good idea, you've got to take some pleasure in the bewildered, foot-stamping fury of this here Tory (wtf is he?)

NANNY!

Brown was the engine of much of new Labour's substance. Press painted him as power grabber forgetting that he has put party before ambition before when he didn't run against Blair.

Oh & my worst time for news Monday 5pm

TDiddy · 10/05/2010 17:55

policywonk- I think heads Labour can win, tails labour can win. If there was an election winner then it was possibly labour

BecauseIAgreeWithGordon · 10/05/2010 17:55

Thanks all. DH says all is OK for him, although he's in the insurance bit, his job is categorised as being in a different part of the bank. This is the second time in not so many months that redundancy has loomed - last time we went through the whole consultantion process, so I'm really hoping it won't come to that, and that DH is right.

Hassled · 10/05/2010 17:57

BIWI - what a bloody nightmare for you. We came dangerously close in DH's Aviva years - never nice even if you're OK because then you see your friends leave around you. I think it calls for wine regardless of the day of the week.

I do see the concerns re this going tits up, but we have to keep the faith. Labour just have to make damn sure this looks like a straightforward, dignified leadership election - no shenanigans. I'm so impressed with Gordon - what a man.

I will get slated for saying this but I can see the city types fretting about markets going turbulent. But they will then go and trade that volatility and make money from it.

Might sell a bit of FTSE myself.

TDiddy · 10/05/2010 17:59

Done

policywonk · 10/05/2010 17:59

That sounds hopeful BIWI: fingers crossed.

TD - I have no idea what I think! Can see how it could all go wrong. But can equally see how LibCon could all go wrong (and - possibly unusually on this thread - I'm as interested in the LibDems' good fortune as I am in the Labour party's).

Quattrocento · 10/05/2010 18:00

Really sorry to hear that BIWI

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2010 18:01

I agree with Ken

[always agrees with Ken emoticon]

I posted on the "not another unelected pm" thread.

Probably not a good idea.

TDiddy
The whole thing with the markets annoys me. On the one side the traders have been betting on the £ falling and are making money out of it, on the other side they are wailing about it.

TDiddy · 10/05/2010 18:06

1)If we get ConLab- then Labour renews itself and has good chance at next election.

2)If we get LibLab then it means that they MUST deliver PR, otherwise they will be punished and blamed for everything at next election and we will get 3 straight Tory terms

Note that Clegg is playing a very tricky hand very very well in deed. he is looking like a statesman, keeping his side on board and playing Lab and Cons off.

BecauseIAgreeWithGordon · 10/05/2010 18:06

I don't know what to think any more!
