Pondering, and while slightly more optimistic than we once were, still really quite unhappy Lefty thread

Where had we got to? We'd agreed that we all love Cameron, right?

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/05/2010 14:10

Ahhh, the waiting is killing me.

Golly. Just gone downstairs and found a book token posted through the door.

Back story: an elderly man, walking down the road outside my house with his wife, slipped and fell and badly grazed his nose. I saw the fall as was walking DD to sleep in her buggy. Ran over, asked if they were ok, rushed home to get some ice in kitchen towel. Then gave them a lift home (only another street away, but too far to walk when he'd had a shock).

I gave them my phone numbers in case they needed a lift to the out-of-hours doctor, etc (they don't have a car, it was Sunday, so a bugger for buses, and wasn't sure of their financial situation re: taxis).

Heard nothing, so assumed all was well.

And now they've posted a £10 book token through my door to say thanks. I feel like crying, I'm so overwhelmed. It's really too much for the little I did. Is a note back saying thank you going to be enough?

Sorry. Totally O/T.

As we were. Has Gordon resigned?

AppleTreeWick · 10/05/2010 14:11

Anyway I've been orf working googling Milibands

Wiki entry for Gromit
In late March 2005, just weeks before the General Election, Ed Miliband, despite having a broken wrist, was able to beat off Michael Dugher, then a special friend of Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon,[4] to be the Labour candidate in the safe Labour seat of Doncaster North.

2 things I like about this
1: Clearly they resorted to fisticuffs for the nomination which Gromit won despite the broken wrist
2: What do we feel the term "special friend" is meant to denote in this context? Citation from Yorkshire post

Also Gromit not married...how refreshing!

thetoriesaretoast · 10/05/2010 14:14

They don't have any truck with 'special friends' in Yorkshire, you know.

Not married but living with someone (environmental lawyer?)

AppleTreeWick · 10/05/2010 14:16

Yes a lady lawyer (as my mother would say) but in these days of appealing to middle england I found it quite nice that they weren't.

policywonk · 10/05/2010 14:16

lol Apple. Gromit has a partner of the lady persuasion and a nipper. I do like the idea of him breaking his wrist in a fight over the nomination though

How nice of you Penth. I'd write a card back or drop round for a cup of tea - old folk like that, don't they?

BecauseIAgreeWithGordon · 10/05/2010 14:16

Which thread, justa?

Penth - that's lovely! A thank you note should do it though - otherwise you'll both end up thanking each other for the thanks!

HamShine · 10/05/2010 14:20

Penth - get dd to make a card.

Don't most coalitions/suchlike take a couple of weeks to set up? can't they just say that and then make decisions in less of a hurry?

BecauseIAgreeWithGordon · 10/05/2010 14:20

Hearing via Twitter that there will be a Brown statement in the next half an hour ...

BBC latest: Cameron didn't know that Clegg had met Brown today. Sneaky!

MmeLindt · 10/05/2010 14:24

That is lovely, Penth. I agree, get DD to draw a picture to say thank you (for the thank you). I am a bit concerned that they may write you a note to thank you for the thank you for the thank you and you will have to respond.

What thread, Justa? I have never had a post deleted. Makes me want to post something inflammatory. Feels that I am not a proper MNetter yet.

Twitter is a bit like a massive game of Chinese Whispers atm.

AppleTreeWick · 10/05/2010 14:25

So The Brun's message to the nation

1: Goodbye ye feckers I'm off to run the IMF
2: A holding statement plus red & yellow cup cake for Nick.
3: "Four More years Four More Years"

I'm tending towards 1 but think 2 is quite likely too!

thetoriesaretoast · 10/05/2010 14:25

I imagine the three of them running in and out of doors like something out of Noises Off.

AppleTreeWick · 10/05/2010 14:28

Oh God toastedtories please let them all keep their trousers on

HamShine · 10/05/2010 14:28

Downing St prob perfect for that, ttat - lots of walls that are in fact doors, etc...

Penthesileia · 10/05/2010 14:29

Thanks for your suggestions: I will get DD to graffiti make a card. Bearing in mind she is 23 mo, it is unlikely to be a masterpiece for which they will thank me. Yes, I'm worried about thanking-tennis...

If Brown doesn't do something soon, I will have to hold him responsible for my lack of productivity today.

MmeLindt · 10/05/2010 14:29

Caitlin Moran tweeted:

A lot of suggestions for Gordon's Big Fuck You All Night Out tonight. 500 Miles seems obvious. Might call David Tennant - he's be up for it

I like the idea of him heading the IMF.

thetoriesaretoast · 10/05/2010 14:30

Now you've really got me worried, Apple

MmeLindt · 10/05/2010 14:30

They have to do something soon otherwise I will never get the ironing done.

AppleTreeWick · 10/05/2010 14:35

Penthe They will love the card however scrawly also be advised that you are now on their Christmas card list suggest you update yours now.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/05/2010 14:37

Penth - you will go to heaven

Is it just me or does anyone else have a stonking great crush of Caitlin Moran? I think she's great.

thetoriesaretoast · 10/05/2010 14:39

Definitely not just you, GetOrf, I buy the Saturday Times just for her. Loved the piece this week about her cat being more emotionally complex than her

Penthesileia · 10/05/2010 14:40

LOL AppleTreeWick.

Eek. Have wasted most of the day. Still, even waiting for Gordon is more exciting than marking dreadful essays from a course I didn't even teach. Grumble. Hiss. Boooo to colleagues on leave/retired.

CatIsSleepy · 10/05/2010 14:41

her TV reviews are v. funny, I like her alot

BecauseIAgreeWithGordon · 10/05/2010 14:44

I've got to go and do the shopping as well! We have nothing to eat this evening otherwise ...
