Not a Tory - but just watching his speech - I am impressed that he is pushing the coalition with the LD's as this would not be an easy option. Normally think he is smarmy but I am not quite so scared now that he will be our PM!

bubbles4, um Gordon Brown IS the outgoing PM. There's no getting around the fact. Even his supporters know this.

Well if Cameron and Clegg are unable to come to an agreement,it is feasible that Gordon Brown could be the Prime Minister of a lab-lib pacy until the next election. So it was very presumptuous of Cameron to say what he did.

what happened to the Jenkins Report?

HerHonesty · 08/05/2010 08:37

it wasnt gutsy, it was desperate. after 13 years in the wilderness, piles of ashcroft cash and supposedly the most intelligent people in britain on his campaign, the man stil hasnt managed to lead his party to decisive victory.

i understand clegg's tactics but reckont here are lots of LD's who will feel a sense of betrayal, particularly if they dont get electoral reform = and not some phoney committee.

After the Scottish elections Alex Salmond - despite not having an overall majority - helicoptered in and declared victory. Everyone bought it. Cameron has to use phrases like 'outgoing PM' for the same reason.... you've got to look the part and talk the talk if you're going to drive it through and become PM.

BTW... The Lib Dems will feel a sense of betrayal no matter who their leader opts to work with. Their natural affinity definitely not with the Conservatives but if they ally themselves with Labour it's like hitching a ride on a sinking ship.

Agree.

Give the guy credit though - he's +95!

I think he did incredibly well in the circumstances, coming back from such a low base. Unfortunate that it isn't a majority but, if it goes well this weekend, the removal vans should be pulling up at No.10.

I thought I saw a man who was trying his best to appear Prime Ministerial. I think he hid any "desperation" as well as he could but it did seem that he wanted to be seen to be extending the hand of potential government to the LibDems very blatantly. I think it would have been prudent to have alluded more to a potential pact (to inform the voting public of his intentions) - it felt like a big political "come on" to me and a tad embarassing to witness. I sensed a huge amount of supressed frustration - it must be killing him to be so near and yet...
