Cameron has Guts!

Not a Tory - but just watching his speech - I am impressed that he is pushing the coalition with the LD's as this would not be an easy option. Normally think he is smarmy but I am not quite so scared now that he will be our PM!

I was very proud of Cameron then.

He will make a fine Prime Minister.

PollyTicks · 07/05/2010 14:51

Not guts, desperation!

Despite this supposedly 'historic' swing from Lab to Tory, it was still a very poor outcome for the Tories, considering how annoyingly cocksure Cam was for so very long before this night.

I am still extremely worried and depressed about the prospect of Cameron as PM. A rousing speech written by his spin doctors does not make up for the horror of Tory policy.

ajandjjmum · 07/05/2010 14:51

I really hope it works.

mosschops30 · 07/05/2010 14:51

I fucking (sorry) loved that speech, it made my vote worthwhile.
I actually felt proud and wanted this country to be better, it was a real speech.

Feeling lots of love for DC now

NormaSnorks · 07/05/2010 14:52

I think it could work. He & Clegg seem like-minded in many ways, but it depends if they can get their parties behind them.

eeniemeenie · 07/05/2010 14:53

Gordon Brown doesn't even come close to Davey Boy!!!!

ajandjjmum · 07/05/2010 14:53

It really left the squabbling behind, didn't is mosschops.

claig · 07/05/2010 14:53

very good speech. I don't think he is smarmy. Blair fooled us all, but if you look back at Blair you can see that he was obviously an actor, spinning us all the way. I don't think that Cameron is an actor, he looks genuine to me.

Trafficcone · 07/05/2010 14:53

I loves our Dave.

MarshaBrady · 07/05/2010 14:54

I liked it very much and found I agreed with most of it (deficit as priority, economy etc). Hope LD co operate.

Cadders1 · 07/05/2010 14:54

Cameron is far more genuine than Blair - not that that would be difficult! I was always amazed by how many people voted for him! Although looking at the % vote he had last time - actually about the same as Cons have got now.

He was very clear about it.... no woolly policies on immigration, no scrapping trident and no definite PR Mr Clegg if you want to be involved at the top table. Otherwise he'll push for minority government. The 'cross party inquiry' on electoral reform is a never-never and the LDs know it.

Clegg's party is split whichever way he goes. Decisions... decisions....

longfingernailspaintedblue · 07/05/2010 14:56

Cameron and Clegg are basically the same. Cameron is a liberal Tory; Clegg is an Orange Booker (on the right of the Lib Dems). I have no doubt that they, personally, can agree.

The problem is if they can take their parties with them. The headbangers on the authoritarian right of the Tory party, or the ex-Labour SDP rump of the Lib Dems, won't like it one bit.

sethstarkaddersmum · 07/05/2010 14:56

I thought it was good & he wasn't smarmy.
I think Cameron is a decent man but will always be fighting the old guard in his party.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 07/05/2010 14:56

Horrid plastic robot of a man

He has no guts at all.

Nick Clegg had the guts to make his speech in front of crowds of press/ supporters. And he didn't need notes.

Alibabaandthe40tories · 07/05/2010 14:56

That was a good speech. Very appropriate for the moment I thought, no histrionics.

claig · 07/05/2010 14:59

longfingernails, a few scares like Wall Street had yesterday will keep "the headbangers on the authoritarian right of the Tory party, or the ex-Labour SDP rump of the Lib Dems" in line. They'll do as they're told when the markets start plummeting.

WinkyWinkola · 07/05/2010 15:00

HOpe Clegg stands his ground on electoral reform.

claig · 07/05/2010 15:02

WinkyWinkola, I hope Clegg stands his ground on PR too. But I don't think he will.

nicolamary · 07/05/2010 15:06

Smarmy smarmy man. Someone prick a fork in his face ffs - I think he's done!

Cartoose · 07/05/2010 15:07

I can't believe I just missed it. Should be repeated though.

preggerspollsred · 07/05/2010 15:15

I thought the speech was rubbish, he spent too much time spelling out really...slowly...for...us...thickies how many votes he had won and what that meant (errr, its ok Dave, I have BBC on my interweb) and the rest of the time telling us how shit he thinks Labour are. If he really wanted to appear Prime Ministerial he should be focused on the future rather than just harping on about what a mess he thinks he has inherited.

And that last bit....no questions please, I'm far too busy, things to do, people to see!! Oh please.

claig · 07/05/2010 15:19

preggerspollsred, he's got no time for questions. He's got to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in. The mess that Labour has left behind is enormous. He's got no time to waste, he's selfless, doing it for us, he's on our side.

preggerspollsred · 07/05/2010 15:21

On our side? He's not on my side. The only reason he didn't want to take questions was in case he was asked whether he would accept a deal on PR. Or any other tricky questions for that matter.

PollyTicks · 07/05/2010 15:22

Yeh, Tories are, like, all for the people, maaaan
