they might hold enough cards to form a government, but if they found themselves in government, I think they'd feel they don't hold the cards at all - there is a larger, broadly left opposition which would hold them back from doing anything

Nymphadora · 07/05/2010 10:18

Re SNP & PC. Wasn't it Labour who gave them their own power? I know they want more but surely Labour are more likely than tory?

i'm not depressed. could have been so much worse.

country is demanding electoral reform in the clearest way possible: no one has a majority!

MmeLindtChocBrownies · 07/05/2010 10:19

What about the folk who were not allowed to vote? I take it none of the seats were so close as to be contested on those grounds?

Aaah have to go out am going to miss Clegg.

motherinferior · 07/05/2010 10:20

I am starting to gibber.

theyoungvisiter · 07/05/2010 10:21

I wouldn't actually be that unhappy with a lib-tory coalition.

The policies that I most disagree with from the Tories would undoubtedly be chucked out by the lib dems. I'd rather see a Lib-lab coalition but anything is better than Tory majority.

But with the Tories still refusing electoral reform, I can't see how the lib dems could support them.

It's the Lib dem's golden opportunity for some form of PR/AV and their MPs would never allow them to throw that chance away - surely?

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2010 10:22

God how depressing.

Such a lot of hope for change, so many people wussing out and voting for the usual.

DH now wants us to emigrate.

theyoungvisiter · 07/05/2010 10:22

poison chalice - so true.

Thanks for the beeb link on hung parliament btw everyone - was very interesting.

Conclusion seemed to be: Clear As Mud.

sophable I disagree - the one party campaigning hard on electoral reform saw just about no positive swing towards it.
I am a bit less depressed than when I went to bed, when I thought it would be a majority Tory govnt.
But I am not a Brown fan and I think it would be a huge mistake for him to hang on. The Labour party has got itself in a complete mess by not allowing any opposition to Brown.

Laugs · 07/05/2010 10:24

david vasey says lib-con coalition would be unlikely.

ZephirineDrouhin · 07/05/2010 10:24

I agree with sophable

nearlytoolate · 07/05/2010 10:27

wmmc I feel a bit like that too. Although I did indeed wuss out and vote for the usual. My reasons were: 1) didn't want Labour meltdown; 2) didn't trust Clegg not to sell out to Tories and sell out on PR (as he was indicating last week); 3) don't really believe the LD policies are as sound as I would like - not convinced on child poverty, they clearly don't take equal opps seriously (not many blacks or women); and basically Clegg is a public school boy and has no more real understanding of the issues facing the de-industrualised north than Cameron.

nearlytoolate · 07/05/2010 10:28

I agree with Lance Price on BBC now

Hello motherinferior! So long no see!
(I have finally name changed but I am in the NE)

Nymphadora · 07/05/2010 10:31

Clegg reminds me too much of Blair [suspicious]

wubblybubbly · 07/05/2010 10:32

I'm thinking perhaps the lib dem vote has been affected by tactical voting against labour/tories?

I'm not sure the voters are rejecting the lib dems policies outright just desperately trying to avoid a government they don't want?
