Thanks Because I have the Guardian unopened in the other room.

Too many posts to keep up with. That's a good thing!

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 06/05/2010 19:45

oooh Edgbaston is quite Tory/Labour marginal - not far from here. Should be intesting, in about 1am.

WilfSellOut · 06/05/2010 19:45

Brian Cox is tweeting about a large turnout. Who else has good info on this...?

Laugs · 06/05/2010 19:46

It's making me feel a bit better some of you saying your polling stations were busy. Maybe there's hope yet.

MarionCole · 06/05/2010 19:46

I'm Atkinsing at the moment - what are my chances of getting through the night without wine/chocolate/cake?

Wirral West (2.30)
Sittingbourne & Sheppey (1.30)

ones to look out for - very marginal labour/tory

clemette · 06/05/2010 19:51

I am sooo cross (beware some non-right on ranting ahead). Just put the phone down on my mother. The mother that made us sleep at Greenham Common, who, whatever her (many) faults as a raise of children, still managed to instill proper socialist values in us.
She is bipolar and has been off work for the whole of the Labour government. For all of that time she has been supported by an increasingly generous welfare system, enjoys her free bus pass, winter fuel allowance, better health care etc etc etc. So, in our constituency which has about 1000 votes between Labour and Conservative she has voted .... Lib Dem because she doesn't "like Labour anymore".
I know it is a sign of how tense and anxious I am about tonight, but it has made me seethe. Grrrrrrr

KayHarker · 06/05/2010 19:52

the common people thing makes me laugh and cry and the same time

I'm here. Haven't yet cracked open the wine but am pacing nervously around.

jafina · 06/05/2010 19:56

I think I might have just convinced DH, a long time Tory, to vote Labour - hurrah!!!! Now I just need to get him to go to the polling station.........................

Seriously, this could swing it to Gordon

Greensleeves · 06/05/2010 19:57

I am here too (but technically not legitimately, as I haven't voted yet - am waiting for dh to get home from woodcraft so I can nip out and do it)

LadyBlaBlah · 06/05/2010 19:58

Just cracked open my first beer. Cheers y'all

I live right opposite our polling station - it has been PACKED all afternoon - people have been queuing all afternoon - never seen anything like it !

Marion, DH and I have been lowcarbing since Jan. But he came home with triple chocolate cookies tonight. Just in case.

jafina · 06/05/2010 19:59

clemette, my MIL is gutted she can't vote on behalf of my FIL who has severe dementia because "he is still a good Conservative". If she hadn't had to sign his name she would have done a postal vote for him - ARGH!!!!

clemetteakaSylviaPankhurst · 06/05/2010 19:59

Pondring whether I could use a Tory win as an excuse to never speak to my mother again...

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 06/05/2010 19:59

yay jafina - I hope you didn't have to bestow sexual favours.

WilfSellOut · 06/05/2010 19:59

I just got this email from my mum and wanted to share:

"[Stepdad] is out knocking on doors this very moment - can't imagine either of those shiny-faced posh boys as Prime Minister - but then I didn't believe in Thatcher's handbag in 79 and look what happened after that.
see you Sunday - if the Tories don't get in we'll sacrifice a lamb."

She's so cool.

policywonk · 06/05/2010 20:00

Wow, just went to vote and the queues were humungous. That's got to be a good thing, right?

Well done to your DH Laurie

LOL at going bananas in the polling booth and David 'The Lovely David' Mitchell

What to do for the next hour?

wubblybubbly · 06/05/2010 20:00

Signing in. I'm feeling strangely calm - is that a stage of grief?

On a positive, many of my 'will never vote labour again' friends have relented in order to keep the tories out.

It's not over yet.

Francagoestohollywood · 06/05/2010 20:00

Can I sign in even if I don't live in the UK anymore?
