because of the hugs amount of misinformation disseminated by murdoch owned press and the two main political parties who have a vested interested in maintaining the status quo/no electoral reform

this webpage is a useful counter to the various spurious accusations flying around.

a libdem vote is not wasted.

whatever your political colours, i'm begging you, don't vote based on fear, vote positively. vote hopefully. if we all did, we would get change in this country.

That looks like an unbiased source...

BertieBotts · 02/05/2010 11:16

Sorry that hmm face looks a bit overly attacking. Thanks for the link anyway

I would't mind them disseminating some hugs

can never have too many hugs

Heathcliffscathy · 02/05/2010 11:32

it's totally biased, but given that the libdems have a fraction of the funds available to them that labservatives do, might go some way to redressing the balance.

thanks for smiling having raised a cynical eyebrow.

cynicism sucks the hope out of me.

It's not meant to be an unbiased source, it's a collection of arguments against the smear attacks so that people can see the opposite side, or as a ready reference tool for supporters facing queries - assembled on the basis of Lib Dem published policy, or on what the Lib Dems have said in rebuttal of the attacks, but which are typically given about one line at the end of the Daily Mail's stories! (if that).

Kudos to the people who set it up (a couple of people active on the RATM etc. FB site, but with collective input honed over the course of many days!) The Lib Dems also have their official "war book" of rebuttals, but this is a supporter-made version!

You do what you can in the face of this onslaught. Fortunately the signs are that the right-wing press smears actually encourage people to vote Lib Dem.

vesela · 02/05/2010 11:38

sophable, are you on RATM btw?

atlantis · 02/05/2010 11:49

Fact: The amnesty is a ONE OFF and will not go past 2010. Existing illegal immigrants (10 year+) will now contribute by paying taxes.

Misinformation; most illegals who then choose to work would earn a low wage, thus keeping them under the £10,000 tax break and giving them access to WTC, CTC HB, CTB free NHS, GP's, Housing, Schools etc.

Fact: Community service will be used IN FUTURE instead of short prison sentences. This frees up our overcrowded prisons and is more effective at preventing re-offending.

Misinformation; there is no data to uphold the concept that community service would prevent re-offending, in fact most offenders handed community service re-offend whilst doing it.

Fact: No. Lib Dems will put young people (who've been on JSA for 90+ days) on a [3] a training, work or volunteer programme to boost their skills, gain employment and start paying taxes. When you train you can't claim JSA, so the £55 a week isn't in addition to JSA.

FACT; this programme already exists.

Fact: 1. Lab/Cons have presided over [4] the existing back-door 14 year amnesty. 2. Lib Dem will re-introduce proper exit checks (scrapped by Labour) for those on temp visas + a National Border Force with police power will make illegal immigration harder.

Fact; all three parties are reintroducing this but don't offer the amnesty that would give us an extre (possible/ probable 2. million illegals).

Fact: Those who don't think it will work, don't WANT it to work. A hung Parliament is BALANCED Parliament based on the choices of the electorate.

Misinformation; This countries history of hung parliaments don't work and there's nothing to say any of these parties would be able to work together, in fact they are all stating they wont work with the others.

Fact: Ireland and Germany both (and most of europe, too) have PR. They arent falling apart. Belgium is a special case.

Fact; there is no saying that Britain wont be like Belgium given the answer above.

Fact: Getting rid of a LIKE FOR LIKE nuclear deterrent isnt getting rid of nuclear. A group of senior military officials also agreed with Nick in a letter to The Times.

Fact; the lib dems have no idea what ND they are proposing, how much it will cost or who we would buy it from. The senior military official are all ex military.

How the hell did that page get on WIKI, I thought they were checked for accuracies?

vesela · 02/05/2010 11:53

atlantis, wiki is a resource. Anyone can create one. It's not the same as a reputable source full of journalistic integrity like the Daily Mail .

atlantis · 02/05/2010 12:01

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NPOV

vesela · 02/05/2010 12:06

It's a wiki, not Wikipedia. There's a difference.

atlantis · 02/05/2010 12:25

Ok? What's the difference for the uninformed please?

lemonmuffin · 02/05/2010 12:38

I will be voting positively and hopefully thanks. That's why i'll be voting Tory.

I hope you're getting well paid for all this libdem promotion you're doing

vesela · 02/05/2010 12:55

why paid???! I'm a Lib Dem member, though, as are 60,000 other people (probably a lot more now, since a lot have been joining in the last couple of weeks). Does it not occur to you that some of us just feel this way and want to argue/persuade?

If I were in the UK I'd be delivering my little heart out right now. As it is I'm having a break from phone canvassing (on skype).

atlantis · 02/05/2010 13:56

It's only fair to accuse a lib dem isn't it? Or is it only the tory posters who are paid to post?

snowlady · 02/05/2010 14:03

Lemonmuffin - have a look at the way Atlantis is doing so much tory electioneering on these boards. Some one must be paying her.

At least if the tories do get in with a majority they will have to make all the unpopular decisions and we can have Clegg next time .

lemonmuffin · 02/05/2010 14:03

I don't know, just seems the op has been posting loads over the last couple of weeks bigging up the libdems, bit of a jokey comment that she should be getting some sort of reward for it really.

lemonmuffin · 02/05/2010 14:05

snowlady i know, she's fab isn't she

lemonmuffin · 02/05/2010 14:06

Yeah right about Clegg! he'll have run off to big business long before then i reckon.

atlantis · 02/05/2010 14:14

Yes I...

atlantis · 02/05/2010 14:14

.. get paid..

atlantis · 02/05/2010 14:14

... per post

vesela · 02/05/2010 14:17

hopefully it will pay off in a Lib Dem victory!

seriously, I don't think any party, even one with lots of dosh, would pay anyone to sit on Mumsnet... even if they were coordinating it, there would always be enough volunteers. In fact the other parties should be paying me to get sucked in here and waste time Can't phone canvass, someones's wrong on the internet!

snowlady · 02/05/2010 14:24

There is an interesting article in the daily mail online advising the tories not to vote tory! Peter hitchens I think it is.
