It appears most people have the view that all parties are pretty much the same and lets face it we don?t really trust any of them that much.

However there does seem to be an overriding difference between the three parties that stands out a mile and that has a huge impact on us all i.e. it appears that only the Conservatives believes that we should have freedom and that the state should not control our lives, for example:

  1. That the state should not take more and more of our hard earned money and decide how it is spent (and very often spend it far less efficiently than us)
  2. That the state should not be allowed to tell us what we can or cannot do every minute of the day (and then ironically not deal very well with crime).
  3. That the state should not tie us all up in ever increasing red tape and legislation whether you are a business, a teacher, a medical professional, a Police officer etc. etc.
  4. That the state should not take it upon themselves to give away our sovereignty and rights to Europe without asking us first (and lets not forget the many who died in wars fighting for our rights and sovereignty).
  5. The list goes on and on.

If the above is important to us it appears that the Conservatives are the only choice.
We know what Labour are about in terms of the state (we have seen it in practice for 13 years) and it looks like the Liberals are no different (just hopefully a lot nicer, cleaner and charming about it). PS I am not a troll btw just in case you were wondering

Speaking of sensible tory voters, where's Swedes? I'd be pissed off if I were a tory voter on MN atm; some of these new posters are really giving them a bad name.

posieparker · 28/04/2010 13:26

I'd be pissed off if I were a selfish Tory supporter full stop!!

amidaiwish · 28/04/2010 13:37

i am voting tory because

  • i think the libdems will kill us with taxes
  • they are scrapping trident
  • i have had enough of GB and his cronies.

i am nervous about a tory govt, but generally with ken clarke and co on the team i think they are best placed to see us through the next period.

Sakura · 28/04/2010 13:37

"Oh my my my...sensitive lot aren't you??? "

You definitely don't identify with being one of us, then...

eej · 28/04/2010 13:44

Check out UKIP you will be pleasantly surprised x

Fliight · 28/04/2010 14:08

Oh get off eej with your SPAM

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 28/04/2010 14:08

Pleasantly surprised at the success of the Care in the Community programme anyway...

thatsnotmymonkey · 28/04/2010 15:24

18 hour days, plus time for eating and maybe for some 4 hour sleeps?? Are you thatcher by any chance LDLA??!

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 15:41

'Are you thatcher by any chance LDLA??!'

Thatcher does have dementia, you know .

Her son is a convicted criminal and her daughter a known bigot.

Charming, really.

rosieroseanna · 28/04/2010 18:52

I am 100% voting Tory but there is no point discussing the Conservatives here as it is such a pro Lib Dem forum you'll get a bashing lol!

atlantis · 28/04/2010 18:58

"I am 100% voting Tory but there is no point discussing the Conservatives here as it is such a pro Lib Dem forum you'll get a bashing lol!"

Yes am very battered and bruised but I wont be silenced .

And just think before those tv debates it was a very pro- labour forum. Turn coats.

Fliight · 28/04/2010 19:01

I'm not terribly sure you'd get a bashing if you approached it in a rational manner.

To join a forum in order to post propaganda, and not do it very well at that, is just, well it's a bit sad and very irritating.

That's why OP got bashed. I have only heard good things about you Atlantis.

atlantis · 28/04/2010 19:06

"That's why OP got bashed. I have only heard good things about you Atlantis. "

Gosh, don't know who you've been talking too then Fliight but thanks.

ninna · 28/04/2010 19:54

I find the intolerance and aggression of many mumsnetters quite disturbing.

omnishambles · 28/04/2010 19:59

Are you referring to anyone in particular ninna? I think you'll find that for a lot of us the only thing we are intolerant about is intolerance.

posieparker · 28/04/2010 20:00

ninna .....any examples or are you confusing aggression with acerbic wit?

Lutyens · 28/04/2010 20:04

atlantis I've said it before on this thread and I'll say it again. I have an enormous amount of respect for you. I am Labour through and through and if we ever sat down for drinks, we might claw each other's eyes out . But political ideals notwithstanding I admire the rational way you put your points across (even if I think they're deluded, with all due respect )

Alouiseg · 28/04/2010 20:06

I will be voting Tory.

I agree with OP

I loathe GB.

Every Labour Government ruins the economy. Everytime!

weegiemum · 28/04/2010 20:08

ninna's probably referring to me

Alouiseg · 28/04/2010 20:11

"I find the intolerance and aggression of many mumsnetters quite disturbing."

Really??? I see it as a challenge

Habbibu · 28/04/2010 20:16

I think there are tory voting posters on here who do put their arguments very well - as I said before, swedes springs to mind - and they make me think; not enough to vote tory! - but enough to make me interested in the debate. I'd like to have thoughtful debate on matters of policy and principle - but I'd rather avoid the absolutes that get touted everywhere (most usually by the politicians themselves, tbh, be we could surely do better than them?).

AuntieMaggie · 28/04/2010 20:20

I've not read the whole thread and I won't bother...

I'm old enough to remember what a fecking mess this country was in when Labour took over

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 28/04/2010 20:46

'1) That the state should not take more and more of our hard earned money and decide how it is spent (and very often spend it far less efficiently than us)'

I'd rather they took it and did the job than make cuts but then say we are going to have to do the job for them for free a la the Tories 'Big Society' campaign.

ahundredtimes · 28/04/2010 20:55

Yes Atlantis - me and Heathen were very nice about you earlier in the thread. We're dead nice and fair and just us liberals

Yes, Habbs agree re Swedes, she made me think too. I miss her.
