Would this put tou off voting for local candidate?

I'm an undecided voter at the minute, kind of swinging towards one party but could still be persuaded otherwise.

This morning a large leaflet from the Lib Dems come through the door. Its addressed to Mr StripeyKnickers, only him. We're both on the electoral roll so how come they don't address it to either of us.

Its kind of ironic as DH has never voted in his life and has no interest wheras I always vote. However I'm now thinking I' not going to vote for someone who can't be bothered to address a leaflet to me as I'm a woman.

Strange, i got a lib dem one addressed to only me, i think i might have been the first name written when registering us, wonder if that has anything to do with it?

All the election bumpf here has come addressed to MrWhinging too. Not sure if it's related to the fact his first name comes before mine in the alphabet?

I do find it insulting but has been the same from all parties so far.

My dh got one addressed to just him from our labour candidate, then two days later I got one just to me. I suppose as each person votes alone it might be a bit odd to address it to both of you?

This has been my experience with all three main parties.

It does make it very tempting not to vote, as clearly my vote's not worth having. Or maybe DH is supposed to instruct me as to how I should be voting? As I'm the one with the PPE degree and the Newsnight addiction that's not going to be happening.

We got two Lib Dem ones this morning in separate envelopes . Mr Handcart and Mrs Handcart.

I get a lot of these things just to me - I think it's maybe just who comes first in the alphabet? I'd rather they saved paper by not putting two of every leaflet through. (Actually I'd rather they put zero copies through )

Actually i bunged all of mine into the paper recycling earlier and my puppies have tore up Lib Dems, Labour and the Independent candidate but have left the Conservative one untouched...make of that what you will

No it wouldn't and tbh if you won't vote for whoever the leaflet is promoting because they addressed it to your husband and not you then you are being petty imho.

I got a lib dem one there is no name or address on it it is put in letter box by volunteers, not the postman.

Well if its an indicator that he's a misogynist then I think its quite a valid reason. If its just because DH's name is first in the alphabet then thats fair enough.

I suspect it just varies from one candidate to another what they do - one per household, one per surname, one each, etc. And an independent candidate is more likely than a big party to just have a database he's knocked up himself, which may well pick one name alphabetically or even at random. Unless there's anything else in his leaflet which makes you think he's a misogynist, then I think you should just assume it's random and not a sign of his views.

5 of 6 parties have provided leaflets (BNP has not, to date). Nothing has had a name on.

Only the UKIP one appeared to have come "with the postman" but not addressed (like some advertising literature the Royal Mail delivers)

I think they're the freeposts? the electoral addresses that every party has the right to have delivered for free by Royal Mail, as opposed to the ones that they deliver using their own resources.

Who they go to is apparently decided by whose name is first on the electoral register.

I have heard political parties do target certain genders, I suspect its just a mistake though, or they have only got enough money for one leaflet.

I'm voting Green, they haven't sent any leaflets (no money for them) They have no chance of winning here, its a dead safe Tory seat, but they might get their deposit back.

Belgarath has got bugger all literature addressed to him. I have got one from the LibDems and one from Tories. Then there's been all the stuff which has no address on it at all.

I don't suspect our candidates of misandry, but I have no idea upon what basis they decide which member of the household to send literature to.

Well with sexism, try to beat the Swiss Ambassy. I am a Swiss living in the UK, I used to recieve a quarterly news letter about Switzerland in my name. DH became Swiss a couple of years back and now it comes in his name, as if I had suddenly wanished out of existence!
