Would this put tou off voting for local candidate?

I'm an undecided voter at the minute, kind of swinging towards one party but could still be persuaded otherwise.

This morning a large leaflet from the Lib Dems come through the door. Its addressed to Mr StripeyKnickers, only him. We're both on the electoral roll so how come they don't address it to either of us.

Its kind of ironic as DH has never voted in his life and has no interest wheras I always vote. However I'm now thinking I' not going to vote for someone who can't be bothered to address a leaflet to me as I'm a woman.

The Royal Mail have to deliver one piece of election communication per party, per voter named on the electoral register.

I suspect what the parties are doing is staggering the freepost leafleting so that they don't both arrive at once. I'll pretty sure that you'll get your named leaflet over the next week or so.

I haven't been studying them all that closely on their way to the recycling bin, but we are getting four copies of a lot of stuff, as DS and DD are both over 18 and registered here. Though DD is a student & also registered in Exeter, as are all her 5 housemates: I suspect they won't be able to get through their front door when they go back at the weekend...

I got one yesterday from Lib Dems all about our town . Tought it was really good until the bit where it said the candidate would 'champion Worthing West'. Not my constituency! Mistakes when they speak, mistakes when they print, what's next?

WebDude · 29/04/2010 12:23

Has the boundary moved? Or are you miles from Worthing.

I suppose it might have been the case the candidate had been asked to stand in Worthing West and had prepared the material for the printers, and then something changed and that candidate is now standing for your constituency. Is it the wrong name for the candidate?

Or is it such a safe seat that to be frank, it hardly matters because you're one of the few who took time to read it and spot the error?

I dont know who ours is addressed to, the dog chews it. When its junk mail I dont stop him.

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 02/05/2010 12:09

I've had some and DH has had some - they just send them randomly I think. I certainly wouldn't be daft enough to use it as a reason not to vote for someone!

our leaflets have both our names on them. Cos I refused to change my name when we got married

scruffymomma · 02/05/2010 19:38

I think you should have a look at some policies if this is the kind of issue that would put you off voting for someone.

nighbynight · 02/05/2010 19:43

fgs its just an error. I seriously doubt that someone stood in the local LibDem office and ruled that married women did not count as they are their husbands property.

charlieandlola · 02/05/2010 19:44

I think that this is one of those things where you can'T DO RIGHT for doing wrong. ie of you send one per household then the other person feels disenfranchised - if you send one each its wasteful/not green etc.
maybe decide on their policy not their leaflets...

catinthehat2 · 02/05/2010 19:50

I think it's an off putter.

My mail is MY mail. And so is DHs. What if we weren't on good terms? Do I get to miss out on election communications?

Also, (and please correct me here, I'm a bit shaky on this one), didn't the big parties get a certain allowance for communicating once with each voter by mail? What are they doing with the money?

Wineonafridaynight · 02/05/2010 21:40

We have had an unaddressed Tory and Lib Dem. Addressed to DP Labour one.

My mother and father have two labour, two ukip, two lib dem all addressed individually, and one conservative adressed to no one.
