April 22nd TV Debate

I'm going along to be in the audience this Thursday for the Sky News TV Debate - it's being filmed in the South West, although it seems we're not supposed to say exactly where for security reasons.

Would people like an official MN behind-the-scenes report afterwards?

Should I break the rules and heckle/cheer loudly at a strategic moment, and if so then when?

If I'm allowed to ask a question should I go "off-script" and ask about biscuits?

Is there anything else I should think about?

agree with BosomsByTheSea this Big Society lark is a cop out, we'll be sweeping our own streets and doing our own policing if Cameron gets his wish

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/04/2010 21:54

Coolfonz - that didnt make it not happen though. It had a huge impact on the way we've been able to work in Afghanistan.

Heathcliffscathy · 22/04/2010 21:55

"Anthony Wells of YouGov (known henceforth as YouGove) admits YouGov asking these "questions, but claims the voting intention question ought to have been asked first. He also points out that the antiLib Dem questions were "Not for publication".

I bet they bloody weren't."

so just to be absolutely clear here: yougov 'poll' people by first making slanderous statements about nick clegg and only then asking them who they would vote for. and funnily enough no one mainstream is running with this story.

appalling.

edam · 22/04/2010 21:55

If you want to vote on policies, take a look at www.whogetsmyvote.com - I tried it and got quite a surprising result.

As for Murdoch, I bet he and his acolytes are seriously worried about calling the election wrong - if Cameron doesn't win, they lose face.

gingercat12 · 22/04/2010 21:56

Osborne v Alistair Campbell Priceless.

Angus Reid Clegg 35 Cameron 32 Brown 23

ComRes/ITV News Clegg 33; GB 30; Cam 30

rokersmum - I think most people have had quite enough of being told what to do by the City. We've all been fleeced by those 'masters of the universe', who turned out to be not half as clever as they thought they were. They've got a flaming cheek trying to tell us how to vote.

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 22/04/2010 21:57

yougov poll for.....the Sun 'newspaper'
skynews bashing clegg. really negative about him.

hmmmmmm. spot the link there.

I thought Clegg was better than last week, given that he is really vulnerable to anti-immigration sentiment, and so on. I thought he would do really badly on this debate but he sailed through. I missed the first twenty minutes though, so I didn't see the Trident debate, which I hear he didn't do very well on.

I thought GB was better than last week but it doesn't matter what he says - after 13 years it would be a miracle for Labour to get back in again.

I personally thought DC was terrible - he resorts to the manifesto when he can't think quickly enough on his feet, and he was predictably dreadful on the Pope question.

YouGov is so annoying.

wubblybubbly · 22/04/2010 22:00

Never watched sky news before, don't think I'll be dashing back.

alicatte · 22/04/2010 22:00

I think it was really close this time - but I'm thinking, just for myself, that in the quiet privacy of the polling booth ...

vesela · 22/04/2010 22:01

DC did waffle on the Pope, didn't he?

DreamsInBinary · 22/04/2010 22:01

I am very impressed by Sky! The host was superb.

MollieO · 22/04/2010 22:01

This latest debate makes me think that DC must be supremely well briefed for PMQs. Based on his weekly performance there I am amazed that he hasn't done better.

Molesworth · 22/04/2010 22:02

GB was by far the best on the pope. Thought that was the only question that got NC a bit flustered tbh.

rokersmum · 22/04/2010 22:03

completely agree edam but unfortunately the UK needs the financial markets to get out of economic ruin - we have so little manufacturing and real trade industry left and most of our expertise is in being a money market hub.

takethatlady · 22/04/2010 22:03

wubblybubbly I agree - the questioner was terrible, and he displayed evident bias against Clegg by allowing the others to go off question but never Clegg, and by allowing Brown and Cameron more rebuttals than Clegg. Clegg had to fight to get them! Couldn't bear the distracting ticker tape, couldn't bear the patronising description of the question currently being asked taking up half the screen, and think their use of the YouGov poll and no others whatsoever quite shocking!

takethatlady · 22/04/2010 22:04

Oops - sorry, Dreamsinbinary, didn't see you there before I posted!

IagreewithNick · 22/04/2010 22:04

Who on earth is that rude woman interviewing people on Sky News. The whole thing has been shocking.

Heathcliffscathy · 22/04/2010 22:04

edam they lose so much more than face...they lose power!!!

BeenBeta · 22/04/2010 22:05

edam - just did the whogetsmyvote thing and I turned out to be a Tory.

I am a Tory in RL too.

morningpaper · 22/04/2010 22:05

Clegg has become the "None Of The Above"

posieparker · 22/04/2010 22:07

Dc did wimp and fade out when he said the word abortion...

Liked tonight's debate although again i thought DC lacked substance, GC was all about the substance and NC said things I agree with.

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 22/04/2010 22:07

Apparently the Belgium government has just been bought down by one of the parties pulling out of their coalition. I wonder if that will be added to the scaremongering over a hung parliament.
