April 22nd TV Debate

I'm going along to be in the audience this Thursday for the Sky News TV Debate - it's being filmed in the South West, although it seems we're not supposed to say exactly where for security reasons.

Would people like an official MN behind-the-scenes report afterwards?

Should I break the rules and heckle/cheer loudly at a strategic moment, and if so then when?

If I'm allowed to ask a question should I go "off-script" and ask about biscuits?

Is there anything else I should think about?

Wow, that flew over. What's the verdict?

babyphat · 22/04/2010 21:26

GB right on that last point, think DC stooping low on immigration

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 22/04/2010 21:26

NC doing ok on immigration, no? Bit of a tough sell, the amnesty for long-term illegals (over 10 years, good English, no criminal record), what do any floating voters think?

DreamsInBinary · 22/04/2010 21:27

Oh god - I need to watch this bit with hands over eyes. Excrutiating.

catastrojb · 22/04/2010 21:27

So, as the closing statements ring in....who d'you think won this one, then?

noopska · 22/04/2010 21:27

found myself shouting bollocks at the TV (something about immigration being a 'new' issue) roll on outnumbered

nappyzoneloveslindor · 22/04/2010 21:27

sabs1981 me too but we dotn have to wait long now then release

MmeLindt · 22/04/2010 21:27

GB did well, very elder statesman compared to the young pretenders.

alicatte · 22/04/2010 21:27

I didn't see the earlier bit Good closing speech from GB

TDiddy · 22/04/2010 21:27

DC isn't that bad. He saved the Tories from complete oblivion. The problem is the Tories not DC. He is okay, really. And I don't think his Eton background should be a factor? Should be about whether he understands and can deliver on the issues?

DC's other problem is that NC is the DC

TDiddy · 22/04/2010 21:28

DC's other problem is that NC is the NEW DC

CUNextTuesday · 22/04/2010 21:28

Nonsense ref immigration policies. DC wants to cut the civil service but he wants bean counters for checking people in and out of the country. For every high falutin policy there needs to be a hundred bean counters and implementers. You will move them from where they already are by reducing implementation of other policies, i.e. no net loss of bean counters, no net savings in the civil service. And I should knw, I'm one of them .

Bumperliouzzzzzz · 22/04/2010 21:28

Did GB just go quiet for everyone else in his final statement? DH said 'was that you?' I told him no it was Rupert Murdoch

mrsbean78 · 22/04/2010 21:28

I think GB may have edged it. I think DC is just flailing, which I'm surprised at.

CatherineHMumsnet · 22/04/2010 21:28

Oh that's who GB is reminding me of - it's Alan Sugar in The Apprentice!

dinster · 22/04/2010 21:28

So what is GB's long-term plan for the future? He won't say

claig · 22/04/2010 21:28

Clegg won. He surprised me. He did well. Brown was the loser, Cameron again failed to score any real hits.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/04/2010 21:29

NC once he got over his hurried nerves. Not sure what press will kame of his referral to anti-semitism though. bit worried about that.

catastrojb · 22/04/2010 21:29

TDiddy I agree - NC is what DC was expected to be before these began.

I thought he coped well with much higher expectations tonight (NC, not DC).

MmeLindt · 22/04/2010 21:29

Oh, Yes. Very Alan Sugar.

Clegg. Cameron. You're fired!

thehillsarealive · 22/04/2010 21:29

I am liking this debate, GB is much much better than last week, although I do like the sound of Nick Clegg. DC can shurrup.

Anyone else wandering which one is squirrel42 aka secret squirrel? Could it be the old lady of 84 wanting more of a pension?

whifflegarden · 22/04/2010 21:29

yawn >>>> GB He's like a professor doing a recap of the lecture

See, scary goat-eyes

mrsbean78 · 22/04/2010 21:30

I think the biggest issue with DC is this 'be the change you want to see in the world' angle, where that means running schools/libraries/hospitals etc in your spare time. Inviting bureaucracy if you ask me, the Next Big Idea.. it will just create chaos in public services and I can't vote for the Conservatives because of it. So for me it's between Labour and Lib Dems.
