Anyone else shocked by Cameron's comment last night or is it just me?!

Attempting to answer the very first question last night, the immigration one, Cameron said:
"I was in Plymouth recently and a black man told me that immigration is out of control in this country"! I fail to see what does the race of the man have anything to do with the statement unless: a) Cameron assumes that all black people must be immigrants in one way or another or b) he is just so proud of himself for managing to talk to a black man that he had to share it.

I really am gobsmacked!

And then he moved on to confusing China with North Korea when talking about the need for Trident as protection from rogue nuclear states!

Anyone else smells racism?!

Do you see racism in everything? Give this man a break! This is what is real racism is, the head of the BBC calling the BBC hideously white! But I don't suppose you think that's racism!

kalo12 · 16/04/2010 17:36

he's a complete idiot isn't he. i'm shocked that this hasn't been noted in the press

Coolfonz · 16/04/2010 17:43

Crystal - it's racist plain and simple. He was saying look even black people think immigration is high. And they are, you know, black Playing the race card, nasty.

The BBC guy who said that hideously white shit is also an idiot, racialising problems is a problem in itself.

crystal123 · 16/04/2010 18:09

coolfonz I can understand your point but my husband is mixed race and he does not think Cameron's at all racist, we should not be seeing racism in everything, as it is very uncomfortable and makes people wary of what they say, which is not good for society, already Ed Balls is trying to put children on 'Lists' until they are 18 for playground taunts or words that the thought police deem offensive, so this aspect of our society and the use stifling of terminology is very worrying. My father was Irish and he always said to me "they can call me what they like, as long as they can "call me" I now understand what he meant.

sungirltan · 16/04/2010 18:14

i reckon dc made it up. im in plymouth. there are hardly any black people here now, let alone 36 years ago. it would have been awfully convinient to meet one just passing on his campaign tour.

if he met some janners they would have said alot worse than 'immigration is out of control' since plymouth is the most xenophobic place i have everl ived in!

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 16/04/2010 18:18

When DC said that, DH and i kind of looked at each other and went 'Er....?'

I said, "To be fair, the voters he's trying to attract here probably aren't that worried about being politically correct"

'S about winning an election, innit.

fluffles · 16/04/2010 18:18

sorry, i know this is tangential, but can somebody tell me what was wrong with the bbc man saying the bbc was far too white?

my organisation and sector has a serious problem with under-recruitment from most ethnic groups except for white-european, it is a problem, we would be better for being more diverse, is that not exactly what the bbc man ment? is it not ok to say that?

crystal123 · 16/04/2010 18:26

Yes it is a surprise as I don't think this man is racist, he was just pointing out that
black people believe immigration is too high, it was put in a clumsy way, but for heavens sake racism is not around every corner or on every politiicans lips!

I don't beleive this man exists

crystal123 · 16/04/2010 18:30

FLUFFLEs you are missing the point! if this man had said that the BBC was hideously black, he would have been sacked! I fyou are going to criminalie speech, then let's have it both ways!

crystal123 · 16/04/2010 18:31

Fluffles sorry about the spelling mistakes, but I must go and talk some sense to my plants, or water them.

Poshpaws · 16/04/2010 18:35

I don't think he is racist - possibly trying too hard to appeal to those who want something done about immigration but are not 'racist'!

The Tories always seem to do this. I remember William and Ffion Hague's rictous(sp?) grins when posing for pictures at the Notting Hill Carnival. Again, try hards . Oh, and employing Patti Boulet to appeal to Black voters

Am inclined to believe that the story in the OP has been made up by DC and his PR team, though.

crystal123 · 16/04/2010 18:39

What a laugh! probably was made up!

said · 16/04/2010 18:42

And Hague's 11 pints a night

said · 16/04/2010 18:42

Just checked, it was 14 pints per day

Coolfonz · 16/04/2010 19:34

Not that all black people think immigration is high, one black man. So why did he use that one black man?

No, he isn't Nick Griffin, i'm sure he isn't, but what he said is racist because it supposes that black people don't have as wide a variety of views on immigration as the next person.

You can say racist things and not be a racist. You can not say racist things and be a racist.

ruddynorah · 16/04/2010 20:03

it's rather like people who say

'i'm not racist, i have black friends'

it's the same as

'this isn't racist, i know a black person who said it too.'

ElenorRigby · 16/04/2010 20:19

"Anyone else smells racism?!"

Err noo..

I do smell the madness a of bucket of frogs with no bloody clue.

Enjoy the tsumani when it comes...

Spot on ruddynorah. My immediation reaction was WTF?!

MountTheFairy · 16/04/2010 20:29

Yep - I thought the comment was laughable! I don't think it was racist as such but he certainly seemed so proud he managed to talk to a black person he had to share it with the nation!

MrsWeasley · 16/04/2010 20:33

funnily enough my 14 yo DD said, "he cant say that"

lincstash · 16/04/2010 21:22

What a storm in a teacup. What we have on this thread bunch of looney lefties trying to make something out of a throw away remark.

Yet you have Peter Mandelson, the most corrupt, dishonest, two faced, plunderer of the public purse, and none of you bat an eyelid about returning HIM to power (which you will do if you vote Labour).

I think its far more fundamental NOT to vote corrupt thieves who have been ejected from public office twice into power. if you want decent honest politicians, then you have to vote in decent honest men, and that starts with ejecting the current government, not a single one is fit for public office.

Id rather have an honest guy with integrity like Cameron even if he make the odd verbal gaffe as PM than a lying thieving two faced politically correct cretin like Brown.

Trying to create political mud from nothing, so typical of the looney left stalinist morons that currently control most of this countries unions, and if Labour get back in, will create another winter of discontent for us. Theres bigger issues here other than trivial throw away remarks by DC.

ruddynorah · 16/04/2010 21:35

''so typical of the looney left stalinist morons''

wow lincstash thanks for that!

Dont you think its sad that at 14 she has been indoctrinated with the politically correct looney left bollox endemic in our schools?

Next she'll being coming out with 'all men are rapists' and 'immigrants contribute financially to our society'.

we need a law to stop our kids being brainwashed with garbage like this, and give them chance to make up there own minds from other, alternative, sources which are unbiassed.
