Should we tolerate this in the UK?

I am aware that other cultures have different values and traditions, but should we really be tolerating this sort of behaviour in the UK?

https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16199187/Exposed-British-imams-telling-men-beat-wives-say-NO-sex-police-ministers-failing-crack-them.html

Yet it seems that certain political parties are willing to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing so that they can secure votes from a certain section of the electorate who often vote as a family unit.

I really thought we had moved on from this sort of thing in the West, but disappointingly it seems I am sadly mistaken.

British imams telling men to beat their wives if they say NO to sex

Sitting before his many followers, a preacher dressed in white urges the men to hit their wives if they refuse to be 'called to bed for intimacy'.

It’s horrendous, we cannot accept this, people promoting this should go to jail for hate crimes and inciting violence. If they’re not British they should be deported. Really awful how many men are desperate to get here because it’s safe but then feel entitled to bring their violence with them.

Did you really expect them not to shit on the carpet and eat your cat?

Agreed, and if it was Christian leaders promoting violence or sexual assault of women, this would also be a big problem worthy of discussion and condemnation. But thankfully they don't and women have hard-fought-for equal rights in the UK. Unlike the culture in many of the countries whose men we seem to be importing en-mass.

It's coming, OP. If you're not aware of the behaviour of some Christian nationalist preachers in the US, you should do a bit of reading. The likes of Yaxley Lennon and Tommo what's his name are espousing Christianity among their followers, likely being bankrolled by the US Christian far right.

Your hard won rights as a woman (and tbh, if you think women in the UK are treated equally to men you're incredibly naive) are in danger of being steamrollered by people purporting to be Christian but in reality are just following the money.

And it's not just quasi religious types - what about Andrew Tate and his ilk? Followed by thousands of stupid young men who believe they're entitled to sex with women.

Forgedsnak · Yesterday 22:48

Shouldn’t he be arrested for encouraging that sort of thing?!

Lemonfrost · Yesterday 22:50

Justinthekitchen · Yesterday 22:42

Really! How many followers does this chap (that no-one but you has ever heard of) and his fringe religious niche have in the UK exactly?

You seem to be doing everything you can to excuse and deflect from the domestic violence, rape and assault of vulnerable women as promoted and approved by these Islamic Imams. And by doing so, you are likely complicit in this behaviour being allowed to continue.

Do you have issues with comprehension? Have you read my previous posts? This sort of ideology is increasingly gaining traction in America and with white nationalists in the UK and is openly supported by key figures like Pete Hegseth.

As for complicity, once again, you have zero idea what you are talking about. I work with people who offend in this way. It’s nowhere near the binary equation you seem desperately wedded to.

You only have to look at the difference in 'rapes per capita' between Poland and the rest of Europe to realise there is a massive problem.

In Poland, rapes per capita have decided markedly over the last 10 or so years. Poland have refused to import any migrants from Islamic or third world countries.

Across the rest of the Europe however, countries who have over the last few years imported millions of third world migrants (the majority of those from Islamic countries in the middle East, Asia and Africa), rape numbers per capita have increased drastically.

Considering this, I am really starting to fear for the safety of my two young daughters when they eventually leave home and go to university.

Really wish the voices of ex Muslim women and some men were amplified in this country. Whilst British white men do commit domestic violence what happens in some Muslim families and why is very different. Therefore in order for us to help victims of abuse we need to actually listen properly and talk about the cultural and religious reasons it happens in some families. This isn't racist or prejudice it is just common sense.

So are you REALLY trying to suggest that because white British men also occasionally commit acts of domestic violence, we shouldn't be overly concerned about these religious leaders condoning and promoting this sort of thing in there own communities?

Occasionally?!? It’s fucking continuous, there’s nothing occasional about it.

Whether you agree or not, I am happy to go on working with and challenging domestic abusers of all

In answer to some pp on this thread - yes, male violence and entitlement are global issues, and there is no place or culture on earth not affected by a pattern of male violence against women and girls.

But there are very clearly some cultures where the abuse of women is considered more acceptable, more normalised, or even sanctioned and encouraged, than in other cultures.

Middle Eastern countries generally have a very poor track record in regards to women's rights, in comparison to Britain. It's wholly disingenuous to pretend otherwise, and cry racism (especially as it's not about race, it's about culture).

OP it seems that you don’t actually want a conversation.

You just want to highlight why you don’t want Muslim immigrants coming to the UK and have others agree with you.

Thats fine - but then own it.

cinnamonroll123 · Yesterday 23:04

revert muslim here. I’ve never heard this ever spoken about during Islamic classes and I have attended many and listened to the teachings of the imam on many occasions. I was married to a white catholic man who abused me and quite literally tried to destroy my life and now happily married to a Muslim man who is kind, provides and protects me as do his brothers to their wives and as do his friends. I can’t read the article as I will not pay to read such rubbish and it’s again more news to divide us all further. An agenda is being pushed about Muslims and migrants and it is false. The failings of this country have nothing to do with Islam or migrants.

You're making out that the problem is solely down to Islam. It isn't. Christian fundamentalism in the US espouses exactly the same themes, that men have rights to the bodies of women, whether that be their wives, or women in general. It is spreading to the UK, and ignoring that fact smells of racism.

If this is something you really have a problem with, and of course, everyone should have a problem with it, ignoring the rise of the Christian fundamentalists belies your claims of horror at the appalling misogyny and violence. It all needs calling out, not just the Islamic version, but the Christian version too.

Eta - it ain't fringe conspiracy. If you seriously think it is, you're not watching.
