When & how will Burnham’s honeymoon come to an end?

Burnham’s leadership has been relatively free of drama, so far, and certainly when compared to his hapless predecessor.

What do we think will represent Burnham’s first real test? The budget, or something else?

Love the way Labour voters are now so keen on polls! In was only a few months ago we were told that they were meaningless. It is just the expected bounce when a new leader comes in - Labour will be worried about how small the bounce is.

Please show me where I said they are meaningless? I haven't. What I have said is they are not a prediction but a snap shot in time and probably meaningless this far from a GE. However, LHF claimed Reform was creeping back at the moment. It very much isn't.

In three weeks we'll know who is paying for all this! He's already fucked the bond market worse than Truss so he won't be able to keep borrowing much more.

Yep finally more borrowing is out. Although they dicked around with getting more somehow the cost is so prohibitive they probably can’t.

We'll see. With the avoidable death of a senior ex Politian - this is bound to come to a public inquiry at some point.

And so it should. But it is still not Labour's fault that the police dropped the ball and poor Ann Widdecombe has paid a terrible price for that.

Two nice big by-election bounces here of nearly 20%. Boing! Of course you can't extrapolate too much from these results but it is cheering.

None of the ideas floated so far are big enough to fill the hole that was there an that has grown with lack of "being in hock" to the bond markets, the giveaways for popularity. There is a lot to find even to just get to the Defence spending that Healey resigned for - he got to go further than Starmer proposed even if just a token further. I wonder whether Healey will go for something bold like putting VAT to 25% or ignore the manifesto and but income tax up 2%.

It think "meaningless" versus "probably meaningless" is dancing on a pin.

But we’re not. 🤷‍♀️

Not sure about very much isn’t either going by YouGov

  • Reform UK: 25% (+4 from 20-21 Sep)

The polls were called meaningless just before the GE, then they became meaningful and now were are back at them being meaningless,

Why is that one wonders 🤔

Surely social care, already the promised tax rises. He'll be accused of being "out of touch" for raising taxes in a cost of living crisis.

it's how the NHS was founded, but never mind that.

He’s not doing it yet.

It is true though. The polls probably are meaningless this far out ftom a GE. But no-one can say for sure. Regardless, I enjoy seeing Reform on the slide, which is the opposite of what LHF claimed. Long may it continue.🤞

He’s like a floundering middle manager ra ra ing people with lots of rhetoric and no substance . And I wish he’d stop banging on about this is what the country wants when half the country don’t want labours ideologies .

Yes, but the three polls I posted are more recent than the Yougov one. And Yougov seems to be an outlier at the moment. But anyway, time will tell. You may want Reform to recover ground, I 🙏 it doesn't.

TokyoSushi · 03/10/2026 19:50

I really like him but…

I think there’s something murky about the development of East Manchester, Abu Dhabi and therefore maybe the mayor at the time. If Man City get absolutely blitzed and a huge punishment then he may well get away with it, but if they’re seen to get off lightly, there will be many, many investigative journalists delving into what’s gone on.

Messing with football in this country is one of the very worst things that you can do.

Before last week I was completely ok with Reform dipping, I certainly wouldn't want a reform government, But now my dog is far right he gets really upset. .

I heard that some cats are running a black lab de-radicalisation programme. Could that be an option?

As soon as Milburn’s plan is complete. Give the guy a break, he’s only had the job for ten weeks.

And his father's funeral was just this week. Let him. Catch his breath. I expect several questions will be answered in the Budget.

I wondered if next week Kemi might make some bat shit comments about communist cats, but cats could never left wing - no cat has ever given a shit about anything other than itself.... Probably needs to be something like centralist German Shepard to run the Pawvent scheme.

Have you seen the Tory tapestry? Oh dear.

Theblueyonder · 03/10/2026 20:14

John Healey’s first Budget this month is expected to provide “breathing space” for households and businesses, rather than impose tax increases of the scale seen in recent years, pushing tough choices for the chancellor into next year. Labour insiders said Healey’s main aim on October 28 was to reassure investors and ease “the cost of living and cost of business”, rather than make fundamental economic reforms.

The first thing Healey should do is to stop all benefits, of any kind, for immigrants.

The UK should not be a welfare hub for the world’s poor.

proper social care for elderly so they can be at home cuts the bed blocking in nhs hospitals - people seem to forget that aspect - it would make a huge difference to nhs turnover - having to wait 3 ?+++ years is the problem - dangling carrots but not actually doing anything. If this winter is cold Labour will be in trouble .
