The last several recent national polls indicate that the election of Burnham as leader has seen Labour retake the lead and would probably form a minority government (or better) if an election was held tomorrow. Reform meanwhile is in the low 20s, while they’re were averaging low 30s just six months ago. Do you think it’s game over for Reform in terms of the next election? Is Burnham enough to secure the next election for Labour? Or could Reform claw it back still?

Apparently we won't get the results until breakfast time tomorrow, because there are so many candidates !

I don’t think Clacton is a reflection of national voting trends. From what I’ve seen, Reform attract both left and right voters and people who stupidly “want to shake things up” and have not learnt from Brexit that this action is self harm.

I think Burnham promising the world by listening won’t be good enough in an election. Probably not good enough for the next budget! Reform will be noisy about the super inflatables now crossing the channel and Burnham is still in the honeymoon period. Given he will have policy failures, Reform may well surge on that. Opinion polls way out from an election don’t mean much - unless we have an election soon…… but Teresa May did that and it didn’t end well!

You think its wonderful that only 22k people in Reforms safest seat bothered to vote for Farage, and 9k would rather have Binface?

I watched Tice rubbishing decades of climate research saying global warming is a hoax. It shouldn't be allowed. These MPs should be held to account legally for what the ars saying. Sued, sacked and locked up. Germany, France, Ireland, Wales, Denmark Norway and Sweden are all passing laws to hold MPs accountable for lies, misinformation, upholding high standards.

How much did the Makerfield by-election and GM mayoral election cost? Its not just Farage engaging in cunning stunts.

Farage's cunning stunt was pointless. Things are exactly as they were before the by-election. The Makerfield by-election delivered a new MP and then a new PM. So at least there was a point to it, whether or not you agree with what happened.

The problem is that his increased share and number of votes show his constituents not only don't care about these allegations, they have increased his popularity. His narrative is that the establishment is afraid of and trying to stimmy him at every turn
If and when the parliamentary standards find against him a lot of people will find it undemocratic. Farage will become a martyr.

It wasn't fine at all, where did I say that? I don't like what Burnham did at all and have always said that. But there was at least a point to it. It wasn't Burnham simply having a tantrum at the expense of the taxpayer because he was being asked awkward questions.

Farage is still hiding from those questions. He sent out Anderson and Tice to face the media today. He is such a coward.

If Badenoch can find a decent candidate and Restore splits the vote, Farage might be toast.

The Makerfield by election had a clear purpose, to allow Labour to elect a new leader and PM. Whether you agree with the purpose is neither here nor there, it served one, and there is a significant portion of the electorate who believe it has resulted in a better position for the country. Burnham scores the highest favourability of any party leader, and far more highly than Starmer did. So people have something they percieve as better now, because of Makerfield.
If you want to compare this with Clacton, you need to demonstrate Clacton also had a purpose and that the outcome has left people feeling something favourable has been achieved.

You are misinformed.
Reform has already said it will foot the bill for this by-election.

The Council have already gained £8,000 from lost deposits and the interest in Clacton with all the TV/radio/press that have visited the area will be a plus.
To say nothing of the extra revenue for hotels and guest houses.

Win/win all round !
