I have seen upthread someone else quoting OPs useful list with a laughing emoji and a mocking answer, just a single example, so there’s been denigrating going on.

It is very good indeed to enquire about facts and backgrounds, I really encourage it, you could really benefit, but it’s the hatred, the necessity to find fault or disqualify that goes with it I have an issue with, as stated in my pp.

You can use a lot of big words at the end, but it’s a veneer of intellectualism. You use whatever brains you have to try to spread your beliefs (and that’s not working anymore like it used to, isn’t it? that’s why some of you are getting quite unhinged), not to challenge them. You’re a believer, more of a fanatic than a critical thinker.

I don't think that pointing out someone's background and political leanings is bullying. Context matters. I also don't think that pointing out there is a difference between fact and opinion is bullying. This is Mumsnet; if you post an opinion piece and claim it's something more, you'll be challenged.

Just looking at @pinkfruitbat’s12 facts, 6 of them are definitely opinions and of the rest most are things that happened or might have happened but the impact or whether they are good or bad is very dependent on POV.

However this is a public forum, on politics, and so expect replies.

The problem is that consequently to your original post to ask people to watch it, you then state that any replies to your original post will be by spiteful Labour party socialists who will gang up.

It's almost as if disagreement isn't permitted. OP thinks this video is a beacon of truth. Others think it's a right of centre opinion piece. The difference seems to be that the latter point of view is not allowed, according to OP. I wonder why.

And you are extremely rude. What has my vocabulary got to do with the perfectly valid criticism of a YouTube video which is riddled with bias and a paucity of facts? Nobody is trying to spread their beliefs except the person who posted an opinion piece which has been uncritically acclaimed as “a scathing analysis” when it’s just a right wing has been former journalist with a dubious past shooting his mouth off.

My frustration with this thread is the complete disinclination for any discussion. It’s as if the only possible position is “Here is a monologue. It accurately sets out the current position. I will not be taking questions at this time” Also, the ideological position of the monologist is irrelevant-it’s a little crass to enquire about it. The ideological position of the questioner on the other hand is critically relevant.

Yes, and no. Opinion is subjective, but the fact that this labour government have delivered, are or on track to deliver more of their manifesto pledges than any recent government is a matter of fact. And I say that as a predominantly conservative voter (well, up until Cameron fucked up the country with Brexshit).

Of course, it is a matter of debate whether the manifesto pledges were reasonable, or worthy pledges, but if one takes the view that a government is voted in based on what it says it will do, then one should accept the progress towards it.

Not knowing the post you replied to, I read all this as a critique of the OP and the posters who admire Brazier. And it works!

I hadn't actually picked up that @PinkFruitbat was after a discussion. It just looked like another Labour bashing post to me. While I think they've dropped some howlers, any reasonable discussion should be balanced, but I haven't seen balance anywhere. If we had, then the successes they've had would be more widely discussed.

The difficulty I have with all of it these days is that we appear to be choosing the least worst rather than the best.

Labour introducing VAT on private schools is is indeed a pretty solid fact.

for no other reason than bitterness and spite is spin/rhetoric/opinion/conjecture.

You can read/hear/watch a statement, or article, or podcast, or video that includes many facts but its overall purpose is to spin in order to elicit an emotional (and political) response, sometimes to deliberately mislead.
