a state school place, so in fact, instead of having her fees taxed to fuck, she actually deserves a rebate.

It’s her choice. There are plenty of services I choose not to use, I don’t expect a rebate. Taxation isn’t based on a menu. The state supplies a school place free of charge for her child, it’s up to her whether or not she uses it.

People choose to pay for different things.

Some pay for make up and clothes, others for their children. I know which one I value.

And school fees are out of reach for most people no matter how much they value education.

Well it’s an extra £7500 in VAT per child; so that’s £15k a year I need to find. I begrudge that; and have needed to sacrifice quite a bit to afford this. But over 40 thousand kids have been forced to leave their schools, 125 have closed. The policy was rushed in, and caused great harm. All because of the spiteful jealousy and bitterness at the heart of Labour. The Supreme Court rules on this in December. Bring it on.

Virtually every other country recognises the NET public good that comes from private schools. Causing less demand, less pressure, and less use of public funds. In Germany you get a tax credit if you pay for private schools. Here you pay extra tax. The policy is pure spite.

I don’t have kids but I pay my tax so that babies can be delivered by the NHS. I don’t have kids so I too am not using any school spaces.

Can I choose not to pay my VAT on wine since I’m saving the state money not using schools to educate my kids and hospitals to give birth? No, of course not. Because that is ludicrous and not how the tax system works.
